This game should have been called "Mafia-The Chauffeur"
You spend more time driving from one rediculous task to
another. If you like driving games, then this is one for you.
This game could have been great if you did more than drive
from one end of town to the other. You face endless attemps to
drive against the clock. Real Fun-Yeah Right! Save your money!

MAFIA

This game is beatiful in its graphics. The people look reall, the cars are detailed to the bone, and the city is well....just beatiful. The stroy line is great. From the beginning the player believes this game is gonna rock. However, the game gets boring after a while. Too much driving... no really good shooting sequences, and a really bad music. However, the end is great. This game should be played once and never played again.

Pretty, but...

Pretty much everything has already been said and I think it just depends on the person, but I got bored with this game...so bored that when I upgraded my system and the game stopped working with the new configuration, I didn't really care even though I was only a fourth of the way finished.

So, if I have anything to say about this, I'll speak to that problem.

Without getting into specifics, basically when I upgraded my system from mid-level to high-end, the game stopped working. It will load and begin, but then it just completely quit. I lowered the clock speed on my processor and selected the lowest graphics settings: that got the game to work for about 30 minutes before it just crashed again. That was also after I installed the patch. None of this makes any sense to me and I fix and build computers for a living.

At that point, I was only playing because I'd spent good money on this game and was hoping there was going to be something other than pretty graphics and a good story to make it worth while. It takes up too much space on the hard drive (IMHO) and the game play is seriously lacking. There's no incentive to explore-it's entirely too linear.

Perhaps if I had a chance to really get into the Free Ride part I'd like it, but since you have to play the regular part of the game before all of the Free Ride is unlocked...and since the bloody game won't hardly work anymore (even though all of my soft and hardware is `supported') I guess I will never know.

I'm not at the point of asking for my money back, but close. I'm very disappointed and I really wanted to like this game. I tried to like it. I like driving games and I like mafia and old `Chicago' type of stories. I did not like this game, though...even when it was working.

Download the demo before you buy. If you do buy, download the patch because you'll be glad you did when you get to the race. It's absurdly difficult without intermediate saves.

If you have a new computer, you probably can't install this game.

I just purchased Mafia recently and had the same problem that seems to be happening to all sorts of people, that being a freeze during the game installation that always happens when disc 2 is inserted. Now usually all PC games will have their quirks and you may have to do some web searching to figure out a solution, but this is the first time where I've come up with absolutely nothing. I've spend 5 days trying different techniques to get the install to work, but it just won't do it. I've looked up all possible solutions on the internet, which are few, and ultimately did a "manual install" of the game. This got the game to work, but not properly. Music and sound doesn't play during FMV scenes and there are some other quirks, so I'm not interested in playing it.

A true waste of my money since I can't play the game, and even more disappointing that there seems to be many people in the same boat. When I can play any other game, ones even much older than this one on my PC, there is no reason why there should be issues like this.

mafia loading problems

I purchased the game becuase I had gotten a new new computer and suddenly my old mafia game wouldn't load anymore. It would go non responsive on the second instalation disc. I thought maybe the disc was damaged and purchased the new one from Amazon. The result when I try to load the game unfortunately is the same. Apparently there is a problem with loading this game on newer computers, which really makes no sense since it seems to me that it should be easier if anything. Anyway, it doesn't work.

I have never been able to get this thing to play, and I have good equipment. Apparently many others are also experiencing considerable difficulty.

What a great game.

This game I must say is just great. I live in Sri Lanka and almost all the guys in my class have it and have finished it. The graphics are very real, Its like you are watching a real video. And I must say what a beautiful storyline!!!, it makes you love the game. When I got this game I played it almost all the time when I switch on my computer till the game ended. The story is, you are working for somebody big in the city, and you work hard for your boss killing guys in the city when the cops are on the hunt.

The story gets a little boring at the very end when you kill your own mate who was with you all the time for some money. I would say the game is like a real movie and every gamer must try it out. There are driving, shooting, robbing, racing, just going for a walk with your girlfriend, and save your own boss, and you name it its there. I recomend you try the game out to feel it your self, No other games can match this games graphics or story Line. So I give out my 5 stars!. ...

I got this game the day it came out. I gotta tell you, it is genius. The graphics amazing, game play outstanding, it is the best. I'd have to say, this game is better than GTA3 for PS2. The realistic game play clobbers the rest. I reccomend this to anyone, anyone with a fast computer. I say this because the graphics can become choppy if you don't have a fast enough computer. When i brought this home i played it, and next thing i knew 4 and a half hours had gone by. Get this game!
