I've been on the Mortal Kombat bandwagon since Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for the SNES. Every game that has come out since, I've had to check out and this one is no exception. I'll admit, as far as gameplay and graphics are concerned...it pretty much is the same as Deadly Alliance. Yet, what sets this one apart from the rest is its' online play, its' konquest-puzzle-chess mode, and the fact that it brings back alot of the older MK favorites with familiar as well as new moves. That's more than enough to reel me in.
I have to confess, though, that my favorite part of Deception was Puzzle Kombat. I found it strangely addicting even though it was pretty much a rip-off of Super Puzzle Fighter II. Believe it or not, it's one of those games that I wished they'd make for the Gameboy Advance or something. It was that addicting. I set more time playing that than the actual game. Course, I got plenty of time to get into the actual game itself later.
Anyhoo, I love Deception and I'm sure you will too.
ADDICTION IS BAD!!!!!!

MORTAL KOMBAT DECEPTION......quite possibly the best video game in MK history. It's overall a major improvement over Deadly Alliance. It's faster, more fun, bloodier, and EVERYTHING ELSE. You can kill your opponent during a fight after knocking them onto a lower level than you started! Whenever I'm NOT however playing it, I just rush to switch on my handy-dandy PS2 and choose to either play CHESS MODE, KOMBAT MODE or PUZZLE MODE. Sometimes when it says, "FINISH HIM/HER!", your opponent kills themselves! IT'S GREAT. THERE PROBABLY HASN'T BEEN A BETTER MK GAME I'VE PLAYED IN A LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG TIME.
Please I Need Help

This is by far the most brilliant MK game. The creators put in four different generas into this game. Chess Kombat, Puzzle Kombat, Arcade mode, and Konquest mode. With about 400 unlockables too. Every level has interacted objects and ways to kill your opponent. For the gameplay modes theres Chess Kombat. Here you pick you king and other pieces. If you meet another piece than you do battle. If your king dies in battle you lose. In Puzzle Kombat is a Dr. Mario like game where you go up levels fighting foes. You are able to unlock more characters for this mode. Konquest mode is an adventure mode where you take on the role of all the ages of Shinjenko. You later can do tons of side quests and battle foes like Raiden and Sub-Zero. You Earn Tokens from all modes to by thing like Photos and Concept Art. Even characters. There are Twenty Four characters in all. The graphics to are very great as well. Overall a great game.

Personally, i got 4 video games this christmas for my ps2, this, xmen legends, kilklzone, and gta san andreas. This is my absolute favorite overall. There are now 5 ways to play, Regular kombat (both versus and arcade), Puzzle Kombat (probably the weakest aspect, just a mimick of tetris), Chess Kombat (very nice addition if you get bored with arcade), Online Kombat which by the way is one of the strongest online games for the PS2, it was the easyiest to set up and the most fun to play, and Konquest mode.
Konquest mode orignally seemed to be misplaced, like it shouldnt be in this game at all. But as you get into it, you find out that it is a huge amount of fun to poay. Bascically you are shujinko, a young boy who trains and goes to other worlds and eventually becomes an old man. By this time you have learned most characters moves, combos, and special attacks. You run around and tlak to poeple, and theres actually a story, a well developed story too! Pros and cons of conquest mode are:
Pros
-Provides an alternative to standard Kombat
-A fun way to learn New Moves
-Earn CHaracters by finding chests instead of in the krypt(deadly aliance)
-Story line is well written
-Good Graphics, especially for a fighter game
Cons
-Many Invisible Walls
-Requires cheats if you want to knwo where every character si hidden
-Some required missons ay have to be replayed many times, which become tedious
There is not much to the new Kopmbat sytem however there are some improvements
Pros
-Awesome new fatalities two per character, and one that u can do to yourself
-Interactive environments (remeber the old days when you would uppercut someone to there death, spearing them to a spike many stories below, that feture has been renewed)
-Nice looking charcters, and more classics
Cons
-Fighting sytem not much improved over deadly alliance if any
- Combos can be impossible to do unless you get buttons excactly right
-Only half decent graphics, no Soul Caliber 2
overall this was may favorite game i played this year, if you are a fan of the mortal Kombat or fighter series definatly go out and get it!

This is a must have for fighting games.this is one deep game that will keep you playing for a long time and online xbox or PS2 it rocks,I am a street fighter man I never realy liked MK games till I played this one its not like eny other game I have played.the quest mode is realy cool it trains you will all the fights in the game.it has its own chess game and a tetris like puzzle with MK twist. then Latter I bot MK DeaDly Alliance not as good cheeser than Deception. I only wished thay would put all MK fighters in one game but good for rent it just to make sure thanks for reading.
Fun game, but not good for a fighting game.

Mortal Kombat, in my opinion, went downhill when Mortal Kombat 4 was relased. The projectiles are useless now, you can easily dodge them. You automatically get back up after getting knocked down, I like it when you can attack when your on the ground. Death Traps hurt the game more, one hit and you can die! I liked Deadly Alliance better when you can impale people with swords/daggers and it had a wall system!
Overall, its a fun game, but not so great competive wise.
Better than the last two thought

Loving Deadly Alliance's extremely dull Konquest mode and then criticizing this game for its Konquest mode is something that I cannot conceive. While I do have to admit that the Konquest mode is a little lackluster, it was free roaming and had a pretty decent story line. For the actual arcade fighting, it added an extra fighting style and a fatality. This game also had some random fun elements about it, such as Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat. The environmental fatalities are yet another plus over Deadly Alliance. I am not saying that Deadly Alliance is a bad game, I am just saying that they vastly improved on a classic.

Love this game a lot. I just replaced it w/ an old one because of the enormous amount of scratches that occured over a year or so. Love it a lot. The person I bought this from was excellent also.

Remember back when Mortal Kombat was just about fighting and unrealistic gore? Then the developers got more creative and...behold! Mortal Kombat Deception.
The fighting mode in MKD runs on about the same engine as Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, but with a few changes, most of which I welcomed (the combos work easier). The backgrounds are innovative...you can bash people through walls and through floors and into death traps...which are one of my favorite parts of the fighting mode. There are also a lot of characters, a lot of popular characters...each with two fatalities and a Hari Kiri (suicide)...the game is just as bloody and gory as all the rest but the problem is that more than a few of the fatalities are really disappointing.
Not only does MKD have the fighting mode, it has Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat, both of which are a lot of fun to play. The game also has the Konquest mode that was introduced in MKDA, but, again, it is a lot more involved than it was in the previous game.
One thing I really like about this game is the Krypt. Yes, there was a crypt in the last game, but it was huge and a lot of the time the secrets were really lame. This game has a much smaller Krypt, and thus eliminates a lot of the crappy secrets.
Overall, this is a fine addition to the Mortal Kombat series.
