Well ive been reading a lot about the game recently it seems like a good game with all the features added like death traps, minigames, etc. but what mk reject revenge said was right if the roster sucks whats the point of playing the game if they have lousy characthers in it but you have to remember that gameplay is an important factor so basically what iam saying is dont let what someone else says determine if you buy the game or not

Deception will be the best

After downloading and watching tens of movies about MK:deception
i think it will be the best mortal kombat ever.......because i liked mortal kombat deadly alliance when it released and thought it was the best MK till then,i liked the new system of the three fighting styles and the graphics and the new looks of mk fighters,but the things i didn't like in it were the few number of fatalities the game had (only one fatality for each chrachter and no stage fatalities !!!!) , also the konquest mode in MK:DA i felt like it was somekind like a training mode BUT in mortal kobmat deception i think the creators fixed the mistakes they did in MK:DA ( now each chracter has 2 fatalities plus the cool idea of death traps , also i think the konquest mode become deeper & better ,also the new very very cool idea of fighting online and chess & puzzle modes ).............
IN the end i think mortal kombat deception will be one of the best fighting games ever...........

A good game that could have been so much more

Let me start of by saying that Mortal Kombat Deception is the best game in the series to date. The level design is unique and adds a new level of strategy to the game, which I feel is a first. A good example of this is the Falling Cliffs stage. I also liked the choice in characters in the game, my favorite returning characters are Baraka and Kabal. Konquest mode has been revamped into a small RPG that makes collecting koins and learning the fighter's moves very enjoyable. Also, Puzzle Kombat is a nice little side game. However, I feel that this game did fall flat on certain points.

My main problem comes from the fighting engine itself. I think it relys too much on memorized button tap combos. While there is still an element of juggling combos in the game, it is just too easy to rely on the preprogrammed combos. Also, the boss in the game is EXTREMELY cheap and beating it requires little strategy outside of button mashing. However, Mortal Kombat has been this way since the first game.

I won't go into detail about my other complaints because they're too trivial. I won't comment on the online play either because I live in the boondocks and don't have access to broadband. All in all fans of the MK series should get his game. As for the rest, rent before you buy.

Hall of Famer

This is one of the best MK games ever.This game as so many charactors. They look almost lifelike. Some of the charactors like Sub-Zero and Mileena have significantly improved to look like they have their own personality. There are so many different charactors you can unlock, as well as there own bios. They each have two styles of fighting and a third using weapons. This game matches up perfectly as a sequal to Deadly Alliance. Also, there are three other modes. Konquest, Puzzle, and chess mode. Konquest mode allows you to roam around freely in all the realms, and then you can unlock all the alternate costumes and some of the secret charactors. Puzzle is where a only a few charactors are mini and fight agaist each other while you play the game block against the computer. Each charactor has his/her own special move to help either them or hurt their opponent. Last is chess. It sound boring, but it is great. You build a team of five, and move on a board fighting the other person's pieces. If you or your opponent attacks and reaches the leader and sees the "Finish Him/Her" they do an awesome finishing move relavent to them.

On the down side, in Konquest, you constantly get trained by charactors. It can be very hard and/or boring. Also it's missing some of my favorite charactors, such as Sonya, Johnny Cage, Mavado, Reptile, Jax, Kitana, Kano, Kung Lao, Frost, and others. That is the only reason why I give it a 4 out of 5. Add those with the charactors in MKD and you will have the best MK game ever.

I can't help but dislike this game..

Well, okay it is mortal kombat. They added a lot of features that a lot of people would find amusing.. Konquest Mode, Puzzle Kombat. and Chess Kombat, to name the main elements. These are some of my many problems: The combos are seemingly impossible to me, the Konquest Mode was just ( to me ) seemingly a quick little throw-together to get this game out in stores. The onyl way to get characters is by playing konquest, and I am dead stuck at the beggining - in training! - And no- I am not a beginner to VideoGames even though I am only 14, In fact, I found a glitch in a video game for my first time when I was 6.. but getting back on topic, the game isnt fun. The clunky controls don't suit for me at all, but what I did like about this game was this: The Puzzle Kombat and Kinda the chess kombat. I just like sitting down to a game or two of one of those. I think i may be a little generous rating this game a 2 out of 5, but i'm not buying this game for you - I'm merely telling you what I THINK ABOUT IT.

This to me is not worth ( the 50 or 60 dollars . Depending on if you buy the extra pack like me which includes the original Mortal Kombat ) the money. It's worth a rental. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm dissapointed in you, sadly, Midway, for these new generation Mortal Kombat games..

Have fun! - - ( with the chess/puzzle kombat ) :)

Disapointing....

First of all, I'd like to say I'm a major Mortal Kombat fan, I always played the games in the arcades with my Dad. I know a good game when I see it an Deception...? Not sure.
I thought the effects were pretty sad, I mean they make the menu look all snazzy and pretty and you're like, awesome! But when you actually play the game I found the graphics were pretty sad compared to Deadly Alliance. My example? When Scorpion wins a fight he does his spear move and you get a close up of his head. It looked square. In Deadly Alliance I found it almost 'flawless'.
They improved the things that bothered me the most, however. The blood doesn't look as much like red jello and it seems a tad more realistic, but I suppose that doesn't count. As Ed Boon said "No one wants to pay for reality."
Now they have added an interactive konquest where you control a boy named Shujinko. You travel to many realms looking fro the kamidogu. By the time your finished Shujinko has aged to around his 60s. Though I find konquest addicting it's not that completely great. It often gets confusing when you get all these sub-missions to do. When you play konquest for the first time you're like "awesome, totally awesome." But other than completing these mission you have to look for koins and chests to find the other characters. Some chests will only appear at certain times in certain areas. It gets hectic, confusing, and often overwhelming. Fans of roleplaying games will enjoy this despite it's flaws.
More characters from the previous MK games have returned including Baraka, Mileena, NightWolf, Noob Saibot, SIndel, Jade, Liu Kang, and a few others. There are also a few new characters. Older characters that are not playable can most likely be seen in konquest mode.
Arcade mode was extremely easy and not challenging at all. I was disappointed in this as Arcade mode, which usually helped develop my skills, was so easy I was bored. Mortal Kombat fans looking to enhance their skills will most likely only find the need to use Arcade mode is for character endings.
In Arcade mode when you reach the Dragon King it's not hard to defeat him. You can smash the kamidogu and this causes him to stop for a moment. You can move in and hit him and he is very predictable in his moves. I'm afraid that's what disappointed me the most.
Though Deception is new in many ways it also brought back the older death traps in the previous games like the spikes at the bottom of a drop.
Deception now has Puzzle Kombat. The characters you cna choose from are of a chibi design and when playing this tetris-like game you can see the two characters fighting at the bottom. It's enjoyable and extremely amusing though I didn't find it very Mortal Kombat like.
Chess Kombat is another new addition. Fans of chess will find this amusing yet also an insult to chess in itself. The pieces do not move the way they would in regular chess. However, if you want to see an easy fatality you simply defeat a leader and there you go, a fatality.
Now you can also fight online! I found that being online was very user-friendly and easy to use. You catch on quickly and it's very enjoyable. You have a friends list where you can see if your buds are online as well and then you can go off, one-on-one.
Overall I thought this game deserved four stars, compared to Deadly Alliance it was disappointing but I'm sure MK Veterans will enjoy the fact that more characters were brought back as were the old pit fatalities.

It's certainly fun... for a while

This was the first MK title I ever bought, the previews were just too darn sexy to resist. I'm normally more of an RPG fan, so I was really excited about the Konquest mode. I had a lot of fun running around collecting Koins and unlocking stuff, getting tutorials of characters (Karacters, even), and generally beating the stuffing out of all who opposed me. Until I got to Edenia (one of the last worlds) and had to fight an uppity wench by the name of Tanya. This is the first time I had to fight using Shujinko (the main character, all previous fights he does some shape-shift voodoo magic and you use a different character) who at that point has no special moves. Now, maybe I just suck (wholly possible, I'll be the first to admit that I'm hardly an expert), but I can't beat her! I've gone away from the game and come back countless times, and I just can't get past her. The more she beats me up, the less fun the game is. I suppose if and when I ever do beat her my elation will be such that I wish to revise this review and restate my undying love for this game, but until then, I'm gonna have to sulk.

All in all though, it's a way hot game, though Puzzle mode and Chess mode kinda stink. Just stick to the good ol' ass-beating (can I say ass in a review?) and over-the-top fatalities and this game will do you no wrong.

Kung Lao, Quan Chi, and Mavado-- three playable characters from the last Mortal Kombat game-- didn't make it into the Mortal Kombat: Deception lineup. However, you can play as Dairou. His fighting styles are Wing Chun (one of Mavado's fighting styles from the last game), Escrima (one of Quan Chi's fighting styles), and his weapon is his Autumn Dao sword (which controls almost exactly like Kung Lao's broadsword).

That pretty much sums up what you get with Deception: a remix edition of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Only six of the eighteen characters from the previous game return for the sequel. The rest are replaced by either lame characters from older MK games (any Tanya fans out there?) or lame new characters that were cobbled together from the leftover parts of Deadly Alliance. There are a couple of fan favorites, like Baraka or Mileena, who make their long-awaited return here, but they're lumped in with the likes of like Kira (imagine if Kano and Sonya Blade had a daughter) and Kobra (the spawn of Johnny Cage and Sonya... she's been around the block, I guess...).

But to make up for the laughably uninteresting cast of characters, Deception's battlegrounds provide the extra personality the game needs. Instead of the the big boring circular arenas of Deadly Alliance, players get to knock each other over ledges, through walls, and into gigantic, over-the-top death traps. A carefully-placed uppercut can quickly turn a losing match to your advantage if you happen to be fighting next to a huge metal press or a pit of acid. One particular level features prisoners who will reach through the bars of their cells to hold your opponent while you get in a cheap shot. As a nod to longtime fans of the series, the prisoners consist of the absolute worst characters ever to appear in a Mortal Kombat game (Stryker? Ha!).

I wouldn't be surprised to see most of the cast of Deception thrown in the cells for the next game, though.

Rocks!

Awesome game! It's Mortal Kombat! This game has many backgrounds from MK1 and MK2 remade in 3d, and includes Konquest (3d Adventure Mode), Puzzle (Terish-ish), and Chess (Chess but with MK Fighting in the mix).

The characters are a mixed bag. Older characters like Ermac, Kabal, Liu Kang Scorpion and Tanya return and look great, while Sub-Zero and Raiden loo like crap. The new characters, save for Ashrah who's a tough character to fight and Kira, are lamer than hell and have dumb names like Darrius and Dairou, and KOBRA?!?!?!? A Ken rip-off from Street Fighter 2.

Bottom line is, this is a big, fun game and it will keep you occupied for awhile. Grab it!

GREAT game but VERY DISSAPPOINTING!!!!!

GOOD;
* Two fatalities.
* Death traps.
* Suicide.
* Multiple modes like chees, puzzel and new theaters.
* COOL arenas.
* Liu Kang is back.

BAD:
* BAD graphics (no better than Deadly Alliance and very look alike to MK 4).
* Bad Story.
* Stupid final fight.
* You have to play the BORING Konquest mode to unlock the characters!!!!
* HORRIBLE character desing!!!!!!!! Sub Zero was the worst (which is my favorite), WHAT happened to Scorpion!!?? he looked sooo COOL in Deadly Alliance and now his style (Pi Gua) was changed and also his mask and dress which makes him look lame!!!
* Lame new characters except for Baraka and Noob Saibot. Many of the characters and fighting styles in Deadly Alliance were changed except for Kenshi and Thank God! because he is one of the coolest characters ever created.

Adios.
