Like many others, I too doubted that this game would be any good. "Squaresoft!! What have you done?!?!?" Shame on me for doubting them. This game is AMAZING at the very least.
Graphics: They are awesome. I wondered how the different styles of Disney and Final Fantasy could be merged into one game. Somehow the characters are true to their oringinal form without looking strange. The transition from normal play to movie is effortless. The backgrounds and foregrounds are beautiful. The attention the makers gave to detail is amazing.
Music: The voice acting is excellent. I was a little taken aback by young Tidus' and Wakka's voice but it was a cute idea to have them as younger characters. The theme song "Simple & Clean" by Utada Hikaru is a beautiful & catchy song in Japanese and English. It stays true to Utada's older style of singing. The game music is wonderful and compliments the playing very well. The shift from battle music to walking music isn't awkward either as it often is in RPGs.
Gameplay: Those who are used to FF's usual turn-based gameplay might need a little time to get accostumed to the real time play. I didn't think I would like it at first, but it is incredibly easy to use and very realistic. (As realistic as fighting a 20 foot monster can be...) The menus are simplistic and easy to use also.
Overall: The re-play factor is high because you can choose different strengths and weaknesses at the beginning that can change the game play. Also, there is so much to explore in each of the worlds, it's hard to get bored. It's a very addicting game. Be careful if you have any other commitments when playing this game. I highly recommend this game to Disney and FF fans alike.

If you love all of the final fantasy games, you will love this one too. Square soft used great judgement combining characters for the FF series with disney. It is great for kids too, So you don't have to kick them out of the room while playing.
Well designed, but too much fighting

This game came highly recommended, as seen in the other reveiws. Plus, it was Disney, so I thought my kids would enjoy it. Although it is an older game (thus, you have to read a lot of the dialogue: it isn't voiced), the graphics are good and it was fun...up to a point. My biggest complaint is the constant fighting. For me, the plot of a game rules; while this game has a decent plot (albeit poorly presented sometimes), I found myself fighting the bad guys every couple of steps I took, which often made it frustrating as I tried to further the plot. Even when you've beaten all the enemies in an area, the next time you visit you have to beat them all again, making it very difficult to explore the various worlds. I was often frustrated, and just plain annoyed with all the fighting. While there is no graphic portrayal of violence (the enemies pop into bubbles), I still think the constant fighting should have netted this game a higher rating. A game for "everyone" should be a little less free of violence: I feel uncomfortable letting my kids play this game, so it's staying on the shelf for now.

This game BLEW ME AWAY. Someone bought this for me because it was on sale. Because the price was so cheap, I didn't think it could possibly be that good, yet I tried it anyway. Never again will I judge something based on its price.
Where to start? The graphics and sound were astounding. There are many different stages and each different level has a disparate and unique quality to it. The gameplay combines elements of slash/hack games, puzzle games, adventure and rpg. You meet different characters along the way and it's amazing how multi-layered the story is.
As for the different types of levels...I can only say, that I felt like I had played about 20 different games by the time I finished this. You start out playing on a beach and get taken to outer space, the jungle, Alice in Wonderland, a Roman coliseum, the set from Nightmare before Christmas, Neverland, a whale's mouth...and there might be more - I can't remember. Each "set" contains a slightly different gameplay and each is fun in it's own way. You slide down the vines in the jungle and work with Tarzan, and traverse through Wonderland with Alice and fly around the pirate ship in Neverland with Peter Pan. Simply amazing. Each set also has it's own music...and you can go from one place to the next after unlocking each stage.
I finished this about a year ago and pretty much check regularly to see when the sequel comes out. All I can say is - although this was first released a few years ago, it blows away everything else I've played. This is a MUST HAVE.
There are no real cons to this game. The only thing that I didn't "love" was building a gummi ship. Here's the deal: There is a workshop in which you build a ship to take you from one stage to another. This concept kind of distracts from the rest of the game b/c it doesn't really fit in. Probably if this were in any other game, I would have loved it, but compared to the sheer brilliance of the rest of the game, the gummi ship seemed like an awkward concept.

This game rocks! I love the music video in the beginning. The gameplay is cool because you get to use a key and magic! You can upgrade your character with new items and increase your EXP. by killing Heartless. The disney characters are well done and look really good in the cut-scenes. There are even some of the Final Fantasy characters in the levels. The worlds are very detailed and the graphics are the best! There is so much to do in this game; it took me a four weeks to finish the game! You can play mini games, visit secret levels, fight in tournaments, and see Goofy and Donald in action! This is a must buy for anyone; you won't regret this!
I've never had as much fun with anyother game.

When I first played this game a few years ago I never thought I would love a game as much as I do with this one. The story line, graphics and the whole out come was wonderful. It made me love Disney and Final Fantasy all over again. RPGs are the best way to play a game. My most favorite level was the Nightmare Before Christmas world..but the whole game was like I sad amazing. I still play that game since I bought it a few years back and I still enjoy every minute of it. I can't wait for KH2! <3

Perhaps I'm coming to this review a little biased, as I enjoy both Disney and Square, but from a gamer's perspective, Kingdom Hearts is the cup of tea you've been searching for. The graphics are phenomenal, the voice acting is excellent, and the characters? All well-drawn and extremely well done. This game is not turn-based as some of Square's previous titles are, but the non-stop action won't disappoint you. It's all about action with role-playing elements thrown into the mix. And the blend is smooth to the point of perfection.
The story starts a little slow, but this is just to get your feet wet as you get used to the way Sora moves, and how to successfully navigate the menus within the game. Mapping magic to certain buttons is a major plus for pulling off during the midst of combat, as you will find the Heartless are relentless in their pursuit of you and the Keyblade.
This game is at an all-time reasonable price, so now's the time to get acquainted with Sora, Donald, and Goofy as they traverse the colorful worlds of Disney and attempt to stave off the destruction by the Heartless.
