Good times

The story may play out slowly, but all will be forgiven when you reach its clever and, I'll say it, rather touching conclusion. Not to mention the game has beautiful fully animated sequences. Makes me hope they'll make a full length animated feature with these characters. These sequences look like they came out of a Miyazaki film.

Of course, then there are the puzzles. There are a wide variety of different types. Not all of them are winners though. Some are sort of lame, but the vast majority are intelligent and clever. The feeling of accomplishment you get after solving puzzle after puzzle is overwhelming. You definitely get your money's worth. Also, all puzzles are saved for easy play later in case you want to challenge a friend.

This is the first of a trilogy. I can't wait till the sequel comes stateside.

This is a really good game. Great value for all the puzzles and brain teasers you get. Fun for adults and also a great way to teach children critical thinking skills. Recommended for everyone!

Well, Curiosity Didn't Kill Claudia (by Laura)

Claudia is the pet cat to the Lady Dahlia, a character in this game. While it may sound corny, the truth is I really was attracted to this game out of curiosity. It was heavily advertised on the internet, and it received many high ratings and praises on many websites. So, what makes this game so special? I shall bring you the inside scoop with a grading system. A+ will be the highest, and F- will be the lowest. Shall we begin?

Storyline, A: A simple, yet at the same time intricate, plot. Professor Layton and his assistant, Luke, have been summoned by the Lady Dahlia of St. Mystere. Apparently, Baron Augustus Reinhold has recently died; and his will states that he will leave his fortune and estate to whomever finds his golden apple. That ends the simplicity of it. While your main job is to find the golden apple, many mysteries tangle themselves within your search. In order to find out anything about the golden apple or the other mysteries, you have to coax the citizens into giving you clues; you do that by solving the complex puzzles they give you. If there ever was a language of puzzles, the citizens of St. Mystere speak it; it's how you earn knowledge of what they know, as well as their trust. A mysterious tower, dubious people and happenings, as well as the mystery of the Baron's own family, are just some of the things you will face.

Graphics, A: This game is most certainly attractive to the eye. The anime graphics kind of look like fine watercolor paintings.

Music/Sound, A: The music is good, but slightly repetitious. The sound effects are great, especially when you include the voices to the mix. The voices of Professor Layton and Luke are great and it really sells their personalities.

Characters, A+: The characters are well developed. There are a lot of characters, and you'll learn everything about all of them. With such various personalities, you'll never be bored with the citizens. Layton and Luke are both lovable, and have their own charms and quirks.

Puzzles/Bonus Features, A: The puzzles are challenging and various. Most of them don't really have anything to do with the story, but rather are randomly thought up by the civilians. You will see common themes, however, and some puzzles can pertain to situations. If you can complete the game once, you have many great bonus features in store. You can look at art and movies from the game, you can learn more about the people of St. Mystere, and listen to the voices and music. The one thing that bothers me about the Top Secret features is that there is a door that needs a password. This password won't be revealed until the next game, which is a rather cheap shot to attract customers, in my opinion. In addition to the puzzles in the story and the houses (Artist Lover's house and Inventors house, for example) you can get more puzzles via Wi-Fi. Needless to say if you don't have Wi-Fi, this doesn't apply to you...

Overall, A+: Awesome game. It was the very first game I didn't have to beg my mother to look at. She was interested in what I was doing in my gaming for once; and she looked on her own curiosity. In order for me to recommend this for a child, the child has to be persistent and patient in nature. The puzzles can be hard and if one isn't determined, the game can be easy to walk away from. I can definitely recommend this to teenagers and adults who love puzzles. This game is also very educational, as you'll learn about the history behind some of the puzzles.

This game was purchased for our 4th grader and compared with the many games we have, Curious Village is a winner. The puzzles are challenging but hints are available when needed. Our whole family has gotten involved at some point to brainstorm ideas. It encourages players to think outside the box. As a parent, I like the fact that it's not just another "run, jump, collect coins" type of game.

What a blast!

I got the DS because of the "thinking" games available, but this game goes way beyond that. Solving puzzles, solving mysteries, enjoying short video segments really makes this game enjoyable. I would not recommend the game for anyone younger than a teenager (too hard) or a real puzzle freak (too easy), but it could appeal to just about anyone in the middle.

Puzzle Fanatics Will Adore This Game

As soon as I saw the advertising for this game, I knew I had to get it. One of the few games I've ever played that was better than advertised. The combination of logic puzzles (of all types) and a detective story (told in both 2D stills and beautiful film quality animation), makes this game a joy to play. The addition of new downloadable games every week ensures that you'll be playing this one for a long time.

Very Clever Game Design

The story is enjoyable, the puzzles are nicely varied and the little side quests help keep up the interest. Plus my 7 year old boys who don't like reading got into this game -- which requires lots of reading. An extra educational plus (even though I actually bought this game for myself).

I was disappointed in Amazon's Super Saver Shipping, it took something like three weeks. Next time I'll probably order from a competing site that also has free shipping and the same product prices.

I bought it for myself, but.....

I bought this game for myself because I like adventure/puzzle type games, but I can't get the game away from my husband!! LOL He likes it so much he plays it every night. I would definitely buy this game again and may just have to, to be able to have a game to play myself..........

Most awesome game made for DS!

I saw this game advertised at Game Stop the day it was released, they priced it at 37.99 and I said Amazon probably has it cheaper! Which they do. I have been addicted to this game since starting it, the video is totally cool, the navigation menus are easy to understand, the game flows well, there is almost 0% chance that you will get stuck in this game and wonder what you should do next. The puzzles are fun. I have beaten the game and finished all of the extra puzzles. I cannot wait for the sequel!

Puzzle games are fun.

This game is a lot of fun. It's not your typical puzzle game where you're playing the same game only at varied speeds, it actually varies it's content. I have to admit that I do get bored with the cut scenes sometimes, but the scenes themselves can be interesting (you're playing puzzles within a mystery) and the whole thing looks like something from studio ghibli (sp). Love the actual gameplay. Brainteasers are so much fun. The timing of the cut scenes needs some work.
