One of the Best!

As an adult DS Lite owner, I own and like most of the top-rated "classics" (New Super Mario Bros., Tetris DS, both Kirby games, Yoshi's Island, Mario Kart, etc.) and many "puzzle" games (Mahjong Quest, WordJong, Jewel Quest, 7 Wonders, etc.) However, Professor Layton & the Curious Village is my absolute favorite. Overall, this game is a unique blend of puzzler and adventure game. While I'm usually not an RPG or adventure fan, this game was surprisingly fun. I'm completely addicted, and I can't wait until they release the next installment in the U.S. (I hope?) One reviewer complained that this game was too short because it only took him 16 hours to beat. I've never had any game sustain my attention for 16 hours (not all at once, obviously)--but this one did. I couldn't get enough! (Let's compare that to Trace Memory which I beat in about 4 hours and did not enjoy even while playing.) Even once I beat the game, I could still download new puzzles weekly, which was great!

A fun batch of puzzles

All in all, not a bad game. I don't feel like I'm "in" the game - there is a story line with puzzles that pop up as you discover them, but the puzzles really don't directly relate to the game (as with something like Zelda). For instance, there are matchstick rearranging puzzles that you can solve, but it doesn't involve the game's characters. Once I accepted that I wasn't a character in a puzzle game, but was solving a bunch of puzzles, I have enjoyed it more :-).

Excellent non traditional game

Hi, I've recently purchased Professor Layton and the Curious Village. This is a challenging and fun nintendo DS puzzle game.

The touch screen to solve puzzles is brilliantly used, and the Nintendo WiFi connection allows you to download new puzzles weekly.

I recommend this game to anyone.

Puzzles to give you a headache

While I find the story and characters amusing and cute, the puzzles can be incredibly difficult. I'm not very good with math, especially in my head, and more than half of these puzzles deal with math of some kind. I didn't think I'd have to use a calculator to play! I wouldn't suggest this game for a child unless they're good with math and don't get frustrated easily.

A must for the DS

If you like puzzles, then this is the game for you. I love the fact that this is an untraditional puzzle game in a sense. From visual, to math, to creative thinking I recomend anyone who likes to challenge themselves mentally to play this game. There is definately a large variety to keep you busy for hours. This game is very user friendly and is up on my top 10 of DS games. I think it's a must have for the DS.

HI, This is a great game. I love it. I saw it in the ad with the nintendo ds and it look interesting. I went to Best buy to check it out. The cover look like just another boring game. Most of the games they sell are boring except for the super mario stuff. I put this one back on the shelf. I still wonder about this game everyday. Final I decide to do a search for the game reviews on line. Boy was it good 9.0. I decide to get it the next day. I was surprise it was great. I want to get it for me an my son. He is ten and some of the puzzle are hard for him but it better then the big brain games. This help him increase his thinking skills. It get him to focus on a task. Only thing I wish the game would do was continue the dialog instead of just a voice dialog in the beginning. I guess that might take up more space. Also be able to turn off hints. Instead of finding hint coins. Some time my son cheats a little. It better to play the game without cheating. The free weekly download is great too. I hope they keep the update for a long time. 120 plus puzzle is great. Lot of play time. Great to play and great game to pass it along to other people friends who own ds.

Unvbelievably charming

There are two basic parts to this game: the story you watch unfold via text dialogues and beautiful hand-drawn movie quality animation, and the puzzle solving that is the meat of the gameplay.

If you like brainteasers, this is right up your alley. I cannot stress that enough. There's enough puzzles (130+ and growing with downloadable content being slowly released, to say nothing of the sequels which will add more) to keep you busy for at least 10 hours, and the bonus puzzles might keep you busy on their own for much longer. The puzzles are also varied enough to keep you really engrossed in the gameplay, which lends itself to a "just one more" motif that'll end up eating away the hours.

As for the story, it is charming enough on its own. There's quality voice acting, animated movies that are a joy to watch, wonderful music, and beautiful characters in a very whimsical hand-drawn style.

Simply put, this is one of the best games on the DS.

this rocks!!!!!!!!

The puzzles in this game are challenging and fun! the only problem is the characters blamer on a bit too much for me. But the fun totally overshadows the blah blah blahs!

I love puzzles and this game is full of them. The puzzles range from very simple to very hard. The graffics are great.
