Good Game!

I am going to be one of those frowned upon mothers that bought this game for my 13yr old son. And guess what - I DON'T CARE!

It's not like he doesn't hear this kind of language and what have you at school or even on regular TV these days so to me, it's just a game.

Anyhow, pressing on - my son loves this game and the fact that he can summon a plane and hop into it LOL I watched him play for many hours at a time and I think he really enjoys it. Since it is just a game, that is all that has mattered to me! Touche!

The details are coming out

It sounds like Rockstar wasn't content to sit on the laurels they had built with the last two entries in the series! From the information slowly coming out, it sounds like San Andreas should be to Vice City what Vice City was to GTA III.

New features:

Character customization - Energy levels (you have to eat); strength, fat, and stamina ratings; your character can purchase new clothes, hair styles, and tatoos; different forms of hand-to-hand combat (boxing, street fighting, and martial arts); fighting ratings (your character becomes more proficient in fights); your character's appearance changes depending on his eating and exercise habits.

New modes of transportation - The BMX bike, skateboards, 'The Brown Streak rail' system (think Subway from GTA III). I've also heard rumor of jet planes, but not from an official source. There's also an actual interstate highway system to lead you to different locations. Also, the streets have names now, complete with street signs.

The STATE of San Andreas - Gone are the days of navigating a single city. Now you have free roam of an entire state. With 3 separate cities, each the size of Vice City, as well as the countryside separating the cities, we're looking at a game 4 - 6 times the size of Vice City. Each of the three cities have their own 'personality' based on the city they represent; Los Santos - the Rockstar version of L.A.; San Fierra - the GTA San Francisco; and Las Venturra - (my most anticipated) is the digital vision of Las Vegas.

Also improved upon from the Vice City formula are many more buildings to enter, more properties to own, and the ability to gamble in the Casinos of Las Venturra.

There are literally so many new features, I can't keep them all strait...police motorcycles, blinding seachlights on the police helicopters, the ability to rob houses, the 4 person drive-by shooting, new carjacking animations (the citizens of San Andreas aren't the pushovers we've become accustomed to), dirty cars, the cars being driven by the computer controlled citizens will have damage...

Needless to say I'm salivating over the possibilites being offered by this game. October sure seems like a looong time!

Peak of cynical, insane fun

Make no mistake, the third GTA game for PS2 is that much more violent, more cynical, more offensive, more wrong, and generally better.

The gameplay improves with a lot more things to do, people to shoot, cars, jets, etc. More guns, outfits, a million curse words, and a definite no for the kiddies.

Basically plays like an interactive Menace II Society. Lots of guest voices, too. It's that simple. Game features songs by Dr. Dre, lowriders, a gay mafia gang, Dennis Hopper, the ability to stage drive-bys, a particular racial epithet, and a massive, massive map.

Controls are better, you have full 360 degree control of the board at all times. Hours of your life may possibly be wasted.

The Greatest Game Series Ever

With the new gta coming on a confirmed date of 10/19/04 millions of people are excited, and they should be. Information about the game has been released in a game informer magazine stating features of the game. In San Andreas you can rob houses and other buildings in 3 fully accesible cities that make up a entire state that can be explored in and out of buildings and the streets(every building will be accessible now), also you can hire 4 gang members to help you run your business, you can buy a casino and run robert de niro style, there are more cars and other new vehicles including bikes, there is also a more realistic stamina system in the game that makes you character fat if you dont excersise, and skinny if you dont eat(thats right you have to eat and excersise), the entire map in this game is going to be 4 to 6 times bigger then Vice City(not 10 to 16, whoever said that look someone wrote gullible on the ceiling), also in this game when you kill someone their body goes limp and and actual responds like a real dying person, all of this informations comes from the actual people who made the game so believe me, i dont know this for a fact but i would also expect hundreds of missions and new gameplay techniques such as more fighting and driving skills. So overall this game will definetly be the greatest game of all time and i would suggest you preorder now because when it comes out theres not gonna be one copy on the shelves.

Great, But the best?

ok GTA3 and Vice City were both great! I loved them to death and i would play all the time. Now i hear GTA San Andreas is coming out but is it going to be the best? I figure it will. But i read reviews saying its not worth buying and wait until the next gta game which is Grand Theft Chariot: Ancient Rome. They say there is not much to do. On the other hand, many reviews say its great or is going to be great! Its still 5 months until its released so there will be rumors about it! The new things i heard u can do are u can ride bikes, there r big bears, swim, u r a blak gangsta, be in gangs and recruit members AND u can do 4 people drive-bys,u can actually talk to people on the streets .. plot robberies in houses, real strip clubs where girls get naked (im not excited), u get fat if u eat too much so there will be gyms to work out and better cars. Also, u can customize ur cars wit tinted windows rims and fire power. U also can fly planes! If u dont think you wunt this game, then dont get it. But i think it will be a mix of GTA 3 and VICE CITY plus a mix of its own. i love the gangsta pimp kinda look! This game will be great. AND EVERYoNe should go and buy it, if not ur missing out!

I hate you and I will never vote for you and by the way your book sucked. This game is great and because of one bitchy politician it is off the shelves.

The GTA climax has been reached, it's a downward spiral now

After reading a plethora of reviews stating this game is the greatest GTA game yet, and considering I was a huge fan of Vice City, I just had to dish out 50 bucks for this game. Was it worth it? Well, overall I would say it definitely was worth it, just because of the sheer amount of things this game allows the player to do. You can swim, go to the gym, gain stats, date girls, do drive-bys, and a whole array of other things. However, despite the amount of things you can do, these abilities and sidequests are purely negatives. This game has a lot of problems, a lot.

Graphics- 9/10 I have heard a lot of negative things about the graphics. However, I must disagree. I think the graphics are actually pretty well crafted. Sure, the cars look a bit boxy and the overall look is reminiscent of GTA 3, but the amount of detail is amazing. The environments are perfect, especially in the country. There are hills, cliffs, mountains, rivers, bridges...there's basically everything imaginable. I especially like the blur effect. When you hit a certain speed in your vehicle, the graphics blur, and it gives you the feeling of attaining extremely high speeds, making chases fun, or just making boring, long road trips that much better. Although Vice City has better graphics, San Andreas has so much more detail to the environments and the city, so I give it props here.

Music- 5/10 Overall, Vice City's soundtrack is superior in every matter. The relatively gangster-oriented soundtrack is fitting for the setting of the game, but there are other choices ( rock and country). However, the choices are rushed/thrown in, awkward...and just plain tasteless often times. It doesn't make much sense to have an old-school country station in a game set in San Andreas, in a very ghetto area. I feel as though this was put in to add to the comedy aspect of the game, but I think it just took away from the whole feeling. The only highlights are: Depeche Mode, STP, Soundgarden, Rod Stewart, and perhaps Danzig. There are a few other decent songs but they weren't good enough to strongly remember. Every song in Vice City was practically great, especially the Wave 103 and VRock stations. Vice city had nice, tasteful 80s songs, while San Andreas just has a relatively crappy selection.

Sound- 9/10 Not a whole lot to say here, other than the fact that the voiceovers are great. Many of the characters are quite memorable...especially the ones you encounter later on in the game. No complaints here...

Gameplay- 4/10 This is where the other shoe falls off the shelf, literally. This game is a blast in some aspects...flying in the jets, bolting across hills and flying through the air etc, but there are way too many negatives here. For starters, the map is tremendously large...this sounds like it would be great, but it is not. When you go through missions, you are almost always required to endure painstaking trips, many of which are 10 minutes long. There is a lame "trip-skip" feature, but this rarely helps due to the fact that it isn't offered on all the missions, and it doesn't bring you all the way back to where you were, just partially. Basically, when you die during a long mission, the game lets you return to where you died, to save some time on the trip. While this helps somewhat, it is rarely offered and therefore worthless. Also, you barely use any of the map for the missions. Many of the missions are "clustered" in certain areas, leaving much of the map unused. I can think of several large areas of the map which are COMPLETELY left out of the missions, which is a let-down considering these places offer some of the greatest scenery of the entire game and would have been great for missions. Furthermore, many of the side-quests are rushed and tremendously boring (who actually wants to sit through numerous gangfights, collect 100 items for a lame reward, or waste hours of their lives going on dates with girls which are extremely uneventful and not very fun...?). Some of the additions are fun, namely the driving and flying schools, the street races also, but what about the missions where you are required to fly through rings with a helicopter? Disaster, absolute disaster. Nothing is more annoying than having to restart over and over and over and over (okay you get the idea) again to complete some boring helicopter mission for less than wonderful rewards. But like I said, the environments are the only upside here .

Story- 3/10 The storyline is not only lame and stereotypical, but it is extremely juvinile and standard. Vice city had a nice 80s storyline, but was not too far from San Andreas. However, Vice City's brilliance didnt lie within its storyline, it was in the gameplay. Take a pathetic gang-banger storyline with atrocious and wretched dialougue/plot text, and add to that boring and go-nowhere gameplay and you get San Andreas. The GTA series is running out of ideas, which is understandable considering they are purely all the same. However, even so SA is a huge let-down, despite its location/year it is set in.

Overall 5/10 I actually completed this game, and I had fun in the process. I was captivated, whether it was to just finish it or I was actually having a blast. However, it is only after you beat SA that you realize how half-assed and lame the sidequests are, not to mention the gameplay. You will realize how little value this games plot has, and that you just wasted about 50 hours of your life on a pile of grubble. I would recommend to wait till the price drops to 20 bucks, since it will take too long to beat to rent it. If you REALLY can't wait (or think you can't, that is), then buy it, but beware it may be an action which you will regret. It is definitely worth playing through, I suppose, but don't expect a lot of replay value( I would rate the RV as 2/10) like Vice City. Vice City still remains the climax of the GTA series, and considering the GTA series is an almost impossible series to innovate, that probably won't change soon. Everything has been tried and tested, and Rock Star is running dry on ideas, but that is just my opinion...

i know i havent played it, but its gonna be off the chains

Look, whoever told you it was in the seventies, their idiots, its modern day or 90s, so its recent. Yeah, this game is gonna be more rap based, which sucks for many gta fans. The main character Carl Johnson im pretty sure is gonna be voiced out by 50 cent and he is black, and dont worry old characters from past games will return. If this next stuff doesnt get u excited i dont know what will: their will be three cities this time, each one AS BIG AS VICE CITY, the three cities are : Los santos (modeled after L.A.), San Fierro (after SF, hills and more driving based), and Las Ventura (after Las vegas, casinos and desert!) Between each city their will be roads between mountains and deserts (maybe even hitchhikers). The game will be four to six times bigger than vice city. A lot more open buildings, graphics will be tweaked, smog in LA real time reflections on cars and stuff. Game will have rag-doll physics (crash on motorcycle does not look pretty afterward). You wil be ableto build run and gamble in a casino in las vegas. You will have to eat to retain stamina, eating too much fast food will get you fat, people will laugh and make fun of you but there are gyms to excercise. You can rob homes, but they take skill and planning, their will be four person drive bys. You will be able to hold dual pistols and maybe other weapons, weapons modeled after those in the 90s. New vehicles include pimped out low-riders and bicycles. AI will be much smarter, cops harder too, u cant beat someone to death without pedestrians reacting to it, robbing homes will be hard. OKay if ur not excited now, go home. All this info is thanks to gta-sanandreas.com (thnaks for being a great site, check this out, has official screen shots too).

Second Best GTA game in the series

Graphics were not as great as GTA:VC, and now you have to keep your character in shape by working out and eating at fast food places more often than the other game. This time they use more voices that you might recognize than Vice City, the most recognizable voice is Samuel L. Jackson. New elements are introduced to you like swimming in the ocean. Also you can recruit members of your gang for a four person drive bye. New Cars, the map is more advanced than Vice City. I still play Vice City because I just can't let go of it because it is such a great game

Don't Listen to the negative people, this game is top notch

Ok first of all i read some of the reviews and kind of chuckled cause like one guy obviously bashed the game simply cause he got stuck on the flying missions and decided a bad review would help his frustration. The fact is this game is one of the best (if not the best) games ever made.At first glance for some it may feel like just a rehash of past GTA games but as you progress in the game you will see a huge variety of additions and missions that are alot more unique and creative than the first two GTA games for PS 2.One guy says its just alot of useless things added but i found the things like having a girlfriend and having to protect your turf from other gangs was a great addition and i commend rockstar on trying to add every detail it could think of to really bring this game to life and make it feel like a real city with real people etc.I love the added pool game in the bar where you can hustle for money and rockstar designed it very well to feel like a game of bar pool.Early in this game i was short on money but soon after i found the horse racing track i was well over 17,000,000.enough to buy all the properties and modify all the cars you want etc.The horse race betting is probably the most addictive side mission for me as it can be the fastest money maker for you if you go on a roll of picking the right horses.just when you think you have seen all the cars ,here comes another new one rolling down the street. Some you'll even recognize from past GTA games. The only cons i can think of in this game is when you get to the parts of the game where you are out with the country folk instead of in the city cause the country missions take a long time to drive to.The missions in the city seemed to move right along at a fair pace.Let me just say this.I have 152 games and i had been playing Socom 2 online and letting all the other games collect dust for many months.Since getting GTA San Andreas i haven't been online for Socom 2 once. This is the first single player game that was good enough to pry me off Socom 2 (which is very addictive in itself with the online play). If you are one of those poeple who always has to have the best games out there for your system, your collection is definitely not complete if you don't have this game.Rockstar put forward a huge effort to give us the biggest and baddest GTA yet and these negative review people in my mind can't be happy with any PS 2 games if they don't like this one. Those are the kind of people that will tell you Grand Theft Auto games suck and then tell you games like Turok rock. Those are the few misguided souls who must be ignored.Whenever we play a great game we never want it to end,so Rockstar went the extra mile to make it as big as they could.Had they made only half the missions those people who cried its to long would be crying its to short. Some players spend so much time looking for things in the game they don't like that they totally miss all the great things about a game.In GTA San Andreas, for every one thing there is to hate, theres about 1,000 things to love.with the size and depth of this game, even at the full price of 49.99 its a bargain price in my eyes.Get it you won't be disappointed.
