I admit that I am not far at all into this game. I know it has a whole heck of a lot more to it than I have seen so far. And I will come back to it and play it again. But just for what I have seen so far, it does not impress me. The graphics, the feel of driving its bicycles and cars, the pesky police everywhere I go, none of it seems all that good and none of it makes me want to come back for more.
I have tried all the 3D GTA games, and the only one that I really liked is GTA3.
The one thing that does interest me about San Andreas is its lead character. The story that plays out at the beginning, the things he goes through early in the game, I really care about this character, and will play more to see how he fares. But I am not sure I will like it that much. None of the features I have heard of sound that great. I am a country music fan and I don't even like the country radio station that much. Don't get me wrong; I am sure there is much, much more to this game than I know. But I don't think that what I have seen is going to keep me coming back long enough to discover it.
Rockstar Has Done It Again!

The holiday season is approaching and your probably wondering which is going to be the best game. I think we have it here. This game has it all and is way better then vice city. To be honest gta3 was my favorite then when vice city came out I was dissapointed. The sun glare effect was bad and when it rained it was stupid with it's horible color system. This game however has really realistic and good looking rain with nice sunsets. This game has the best graphics in the sereies and the most to offer. You can work out to get buffed or chow down to get fat but this game has something for everyone. There's a lot of hidden stuff in the game you can do. For instance you can play a game of basketball or play a mini video game in cj's home. You can also shoot pool and gamble in the later stages of the game. The radio stations are the best so far with commentating by andy dick and music by rage against the machine, ice t, snoop doggy dog, NWA, guns and roses, and a nice selection of reggae so there's music for the average rock fan or your average rap fan. There's a variety of new missions and some that copy the older gta's. Overall though it's going to take you at least 10-15 hours to do the missions then you also have to spray paint your logo all over the place so this game is definitly worth the money. If you liked the previous gta games definitly get this one, even if you didn't like vice city like me you'll probably have more fun with this title. So if you only have 50 bucks to spend by this game over all the others.
Great Game!

This game has been out for quite a while, and now GTA IV is coming out soon, but this game rocks. So much to do and never gets boring.
Use cautiously: May be habit forming

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say one of the best games ever. Tons of missions, side missions, and other crazy stuff to find. After a long battle with SA addiction, I finally was satisfied with a 97.33% completion level. Now I have regained my other life back. Buy it furil.
This is not that good, but it is decently playable....

I was disappointed.
Yes. I loved GTA3, the only reason I got a PS2. It was a lush game with a lot of fun scenarios, great play, and just the right amount of everything. Vice City was a mediocre follow up that lost a lot of the charm from the main character, but added a lot of weapons and space. Now, with San Andreas, Rockstar North lost the sick, male humor from a lot of the design and story, and replaced it with very tedious, boring dialogue and random design choices. But, as a game it is definitely fun and playable, it just isn't anything special compared to the older versions. More of the same, less luster.
Writing: I think Rockstar really hurt here by picking an awesome setting rife with great history and plenty of chances for unique characters and great humor. Sadly, they either changed writing teams, or pulled punches due to the characters being black. Over all, the game is passable, but nothing here is very engaging. There is a nice tie into GTA3 as you lose your woman to the mute lead of the third, and then they go off to Liberty City (where GTA3 begins). Characters and situations weren't as tightly tied together in this game, as they were in the third and fourth. "This is an honest effort to create an engaging story about sympathetic characters caught up in a brutal environment that is on par with a movie or novel. " ....that is just BS.
Game Play: I found the game play had pros and cons compared to it's earlier versions. They really added a ton of nice bits, again. Now you have bicycles, combines, tanker trucks, shovels, a spray can for grafitti, and so forth. There is also a much larger environment that spans country and city. Again, basically, three cities, but a ton of countryside and water as well. On the down side, the large area also makes for some really boring periods where you have to drive for 5 minutes to get somewhere. At the same time, I find the game play less engaging because people tend not to engage you as much when you rob their cars or beat them up randomly. It is a bit easier over all, but I find the cars tend to lose control easier unless you have a top notch vehicle. The actual missions don't seem as clever or engaging anymore in the first stage of the game. Once you get to the second city, the game ideas begin to brighten up and give you a bit more variety and challenge.
Graphics: This game doesn't improve the graphics in any way. But, that is fine, since the game was already good enough in GTA3, graphically. You still get the awkward bits and movements, everyone walks and runs like they weigh 300+ lbs, etc. I moved to LA from NYC in 1992 and this game really makes me believe I am in certain areas of LA during the game. Very well designed. All the setting and culture is right on.
Sound: Sound is, as always, excellent. The radio stations are really good. I loved that they used the period songs, and then added country as well. The talk station is always fun in these games.
Technical: I found this game to be crashing all over the place on my 2001 PS2. While some would argue that it is an old console, i don't find that an excuse. It is the most crashable video game I have for the PS2... it went down 4 times today alone.
Replay: Yeah, it is a definite replay game if you are new to the GTA games. When this is over i will probably play GTA3 again and enjoy that hilarious silent guy and the crazy people using him to create mayhem.
A good product to bide my time. This is not 'teh best game evah!!1!', because it doesn't go all out with any of the ideas inherent in the actual setting or genre it chose to center around. A decent game. Not great.
A progression but not an overall improvement

GTA: San Andreas is an amazing game as I'm sure you've already read/seen so I needn't ramble on about that. The amount of freedom you get on the game is astounding- you can more or less do anything you want. The missions are on the whole very entertaining but there are the odd one or two that are boring and tedious. The music is more than adequate for the game and there are some classic songs but the soundtrack doesn't compare to Vice City's. The graphics in my opinion haven't really changed or not noticeably anyway. Infact, I'd say Vice City had a much better look to it but perhaps that was intentional. I guess you have to take into account the size difference between the two games so I doubt they could have done much else to imrpove the graphics.
The game has definitely become more realistic to the previous offerings- the traffic is faster on the main roads and everything in general seems more like real life. The police, however, are still as ludicrously stupid as ever although that is probably a positive aspect of the game.
Unfortunately there are still little areas of the game which have not changed- empty roads, buildings and trees popping up from nowhere, graphics not loading up properly etc. None of this particularly matters but it can get a little annoying.
The sound effects are much improved, as is the control in vehicles- except in helicopters.
Basically, GTA San Andreas is all you could ever want from a game and more, despite the relatively unimportant negative aspects.
Wonderful

After 492 reviews it is hard to write something that has not already been said. GTA is quite simply the best game ever made for the PS2. I've already played the game for 20 hours and have completed less than 10% of the game. It's not that I am a bad player, but that one can simply play this game for hours without really making any progress. It is this that for me makes this such an amazing game. I can take my character down to the gym to build up his muscles, I can go look for hidden objects that improve the game play, I can go play pool or bet on the horses, I can learn to fly, fire a gun, ride a bike, drive a car, do taxi missions, fire missions, vigilante missions ambulance missions or just explore.
The most exciting aspect of the game for me is the fact that I can take my time and do what I want to do. If I want to one of the many activities listed above, I can. There is no set order. At any given time I can probably do any one of nine missions or countless more activities to pass the time. If one part of the game bores me or is too difficult I have countless other things I can do to keep my interest and enjoyment up. To me this is the magic of the game. Most games bore me quickly as I have a life outside of video games, but this one is utterly absorbing and entertaining.
Rockstar have built on Vice City and made a game at least four times bigger. This game is very real and gritty in places and is not suitable for younger children. However for open minded individuals who want a game that truly will be remembered as the best ever PS2 game this is the one. I know I have many hours of great game play ahead of me.
The 5th GTA is the perfect video game, period!

GTA San Andreas is addicting. It's one of those games that you can lose yourself in without realizing how much time has passed by. You can pick it up and start playing in the afternoon and before you know it, it's already 2am the next day. No showering, no bathroom breaks, no food, no nothing. Just you running around San Andreas completing missions, capping fools, playing pool, pumping iron, eating fastfood, driving around to see the sights or running away from po-po.
Here's a typical day in San Andreas for me...I go out to the closest bar and play a couple rounds of pool to earn cash, betting a $1000 on each game. After winning a couple grand I go over to the clothing store to purchase some gear, bling and kicks. when I'm all decked out and pleased with my gangstuh self I head back out to the crib to save my progress, capping pedestrians and rival gangmembers along the way. Once I get to the crib I climb up the roof to get me a can of spray paint (to tag over rival gang's tags, reclaiming territory) and more ammunition for my uzi. At this point, depending on what I feel like pursuing, I might go do some missions and progress through the story or I might just hop in my low rider and compete in a race or hydraulics contest to earn more cash.
If my body's getting soft and my muscles start degrading, I stop by the nearest gym, do a couple of bench presses and do a little boxing to get my buff back on. I just love getting compliments as I'm walking down the street and people telling me I'm all swollen.
I frequently check out my stats and see how far I've come along in the underworld ranking. Right now I think I'm a "street cat" with 630 something kills. The routine repeats itself and I don't ever get bored. I do get frustrated when I have to repeatedly do missions over either because of my ineptness or it's too frickin' hard! I think the missions are moderately difficult. You just have to figure out the best way to complete them. I'm not into completing all the missions just yet. I'm having more fun earning cash, buying property, finding tags and getting my ranking up by killing people.
Some notable missions: I had to steel a rhyme book from a successful rapper's crib and give it to my less talented homeboy. I had to go in and do stealth kills with a knife, steal the rhymes and head back to the burger joint where my homey OG Loc works at. Another memorable mission was also for OG Loc wherein I had to steal a van equipped with a kick-ass stereo system. I had to complete dance moves just like DDR just so I could get access into the van before I could jack it and drive it off to a garage somewhere. Funny mission but I enjoyed going through it.
In my opinion, GTA San Andreas is the best PS2 game out right now. And it might just be the best video game ever. Highly addictive with incredible replay value. If you don't have this game yet then go out and buy it NOW!
Where else can you be a big bad gangsta, who can tell some punk on the street to stick it for insulting your choice in footwear, then beat that same punk to death before grabbing his paper and head on home on your bmx with an uzi in your right hand hanging over the handlebars? You wanna know where? Only in San Andreas.

Basicly, you can do whatever the hell you want to. Following the story line or now this game still rocks. There are so many things you gan do You can hijack (or however you spell that) cars and run over people or stand in the middle of an intersection and blow everything up. Your guy is totally customizable and so are the cars. Planes are also available to fly. There are a lot of guns (including a chainsaw >:D) which cause total mayhem.
The game is very great and I would reccomend it to anybody.
