Gran Turismo has established itself is the definitive simulation racer. Each installment of the series brings more cars and tracks, prettier graphics, improved gameplay, and the closest experience to racing from the comfort of one's home. Gran Turismo 3 was near perfect and really left little room for improvement. Fortunately for fans though, Polyphony thought otherwise.
Final words: Take Gran Turismo 3 and make it better in nearly everyway and you get Gran Turismo 4- a worthy purchase.

Gran Turismo 4 brings in real racing! The handling of cars are more like in reality than in Gran Turismo 3. Also the graphics are improved. You can look at their website, granturismo4.com and try to guess whether a picture is from reality or from the game and some of the pictures are hard to tell. The amount of cars has been increased to around 650 from only 100-200 from GT3. They've even added in new cars like the 2005 Ford Mustang and the 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse....etc. There are more tracks now as well. They even have added Infineon Raceway (formerly known as Sears Point) which is a road course that NASCAR races at. There are now trucks you can buy like the SSR, Tacoma, Dodge Ram, and Silverado. You can race them in special truck races too. Another cool thing that they've added is people watching the races on the sides of the road or in the stands actually move and wave their arms and stuff. In GT3, they stood still. The only thing I don't like about this game is the soundtrack. "Rollover DJ" by Jet is the only song I really like in this game. But it's alright because I usually listen to my own CDs while playing a game anyway. There is sometimes a glitch in this game where the screen jitters for a second or two but it eventually corrects itself. If it doesn't just press pause and it will fix itslef. This game is worth the money. Anyone who likes racing will want this game...It's as real as it gets until Gran Turismo 5 comes out....
Very realistic simulator...maybe TOO realistic

This game has, yes, excellent graphics, as many have said. So spectacular, in fact, that there is a feature to take photos of your beautiful car against breathtaking scenery. If you're looking for a racing game that's easy and fast, you won't find it here. For those of you who are experts or pretty proficient at racing games, this is a whole new challenge for you, with realistic physics and whatnot. However, for those who are relatively new to racing games, DON'T get it. It's extremely difficult, and I myself couldn't even get past the license tests (which are necessary to gain the right to own cars, and there are different licenses for different class cars), and each license test has 14 different classes, in ascending difficulty. It's a huge PAIN! Once again, putting that aside, this game is absolutely wonderful. There are over 800 cars to choose from, from different eras, even back to the time of the old Volkswagen Beetle (the 1940s!). If you can overcome the huge difficulty of the game, this will be a keystone in your racing game collection- with a huge selection of cars, tracks from across the world, and breathtaking graphics to boot.
one of the last great games for the ps2

I don't know what more you would want from a professional racing game. The graphics are stunning, the gameplay feels professional with the pressure-sensitive buttons on the ps2 controller, and the selection of cars and tracks is huge. Most important of all, is the addition of the LAN gameplay (the ability to compete with up to 5 other people on a network game), and the photo mode (which lets you take pictures of cars you own from unlimited angles either standing still with backgrounds, or running on a track). The settings in photo mode were more than I expected, and they include film speed, lens filter, color, apeture, and angle settings. Another new feature is the ability to control the car as a crew chief (which is nice especially during longer races where you can fast forward the speed and finish an endurance race in about 1/3rd the time). With the right connections, I bet this game would look amazing in HD. I can't see how it can get any better for the next ps3 title in the Gran Turismo line.
Gran Turismo need I say more?

I owned GT2 on the old PS platform and had a blast with that game. I bought an X-Box and ended up with Project Gotham 2, Forza Racing, and a bunch of other racing games (car and motorcycle), with FR being the better of the set. I just recently bought a PS2 console and love it, GT4 being one of the first games I got with it. It's much better than the old GT2 in every level except one, the races are far more limited when using one car or another than GT2. The rules for each race are very specific like Forza, just not quite as bad. The best part of the game, other than the great graphics, is the B-Spec mode where you can let the cpu drive for you. Call me lazy, but when I need 4.5 million to buy an Audi R8 to win a particular race and I have a car that will dominate every race in the championship anyway I would rather put the control in the cpu's hands and go do something else, like write this review...
Some complaints are that there are no wet weather races, and they didn't put in some of the larger auto companies like Lamborghini, Ferrari, or Porsche (I don't consider RUF as good). Instead they put in stupid cars that I'll never use, like the model T, I mean come on... And I wish they would let you race the "special cars" like the Nike car. And I agree with other reviews, the license tests are irritating, especially the "coffee breaks" in the middle of them.
But all-in-all it's a good game, and the best car game out there, even compared to the Project Gotham 3 demo I played on the X-Box 360.
Great Game

This is a great buy. There are over 650 cars and tons of tracks to choose from. At the beggining you get to get a drivers liscens actually there are 6 different ones. They are actually harder then you expect. Then they have a map and you can go to different countries and by tons of different cars from a Ford Truck to a Buick 38 Speacial. Then on top of that there are tune up shops in each brand. Alot of the stuff is confusing if you don't know alot about cars. Like how much to adjust the suspention to fit the track. And if you really want to feel like your driving use the Lodgetech wheel its amazing. After you get your car you can enter in different races from the good old Sunday cup with minivans to the Japenese Chapianships with toyota gt's. Anyway i could on forever about how good this game was, and i hope you found this review helpful.
Can't get into this series

I either don't know how to handle Gran Turismo or there is some trick that I don't know about. The thing I don't like about the Gran Turismo games is that there is no such thing as power slides, so you have to slow down (like in real life) to go around a turn. I remember reading a review where the makers said they are adding a feature to 4 that will help people who had trouble with wiping out and control on the previous installments of the game. I was expecting to see that in this one, but I didn't. Because I do have that problem and I think its more with the physics than anything. Braking while still accelaerating doesn't help at all. In fact it disables the turning, so it will put you right into the wall. It's not like I don't have any experience. I am an avid gamer and I love Midnight Club (by far the best racing game in my opinion. Sometimes it's a little unrealistic, but at least it drives well), Need for Speed Underground and other racing games. There comes a point where a game is no longer a game, but more like a similutor. I don't know if that's what they are wanting to accomplish, but it supposed to be a game.

GT3 was an awesome game, from the tune ups to the formula ones. I tried the prologue of GT4, and WHOA. The graphics were awesome, but it was only 80 % done in the prolugue. And for those supercars lovers, there wil be lamborghinis, ferarris, and the Mclaren F1 GTR. There will also be the real car physics (the acceleration, handling, and top speed), and the race tracks extremely detailed. This is a best buy
