They just keep coming...

Remember those beat-em up games such as Final Fight, Rival Turf, T.M.N.Turtles...etc.? You know the games where you constantly mash buttons while endless baddies keep coming. Well, if you are itching' for that lost feeling, look no further, because GOD OF WAR has arrived.

The game obviously isn't a 2D side-scroller like the above mentioned; it is however, a 3D linear path scroller with plenty of evil doers needing some smack down. Think "Prince of Persia," "Jaxx and Daxter," "Devil May Cry," or even "Onimusha" style exploring worlds. In these worlds/levels, "God of War" has plenty of puzzles for you to solve, while hitting you with a demanding hordes of enemies. I have to admit, some of the puzzles are challenging which requires a bit of brain power. The downfall is you feel the need to have control of the camera, but you don't. Sometimes you would like to get a better perspective of the layout, but the game won't let you. However, the game does a decent job of balancing out what you really need and don't need to see while you move throughout the game.

There are only a few bosses, but plenty of minions in which you will encounter over and over again. Even though you learn several tactics along the way, I basically used 2 moves throughout the game. Serious.

The background and scenery is gorgeous while the music is top-notch. There is an overabundance of blood if you crave that sort of thing. The cut-scenes are impressive and I must say, it is probably one of the better video game story lines to hit the market. I could definitely see a big-budget motion picture based off of this game.

Now it may seem like my description of the gameplay is weak, but in actuality it is pretty intense. Yes, you encounter endless groups of enemies, but there is some satisfying destruction in the palm of your hands. With the whipping of your duel blades and the use of the Greek Myth powers, you will be sure to have some fun. Plus, a good handful of the puzzles keep things interesting. Overall, I enjoyed this game. I had a hard time putting it down, but I managed to do so in between work and other obligations. I don't imagine I will be going back and playing it again as it doesn't have a high replayability factor. (Not much into button mashing a swarm of enemies over again, now that I have conquered it) On the other hand, you are treated with a bunch of extras such as: Making of the game, deleted levels, concept art, GOD MODE, challenges, etc.

PARENTS: This game is not for your children. There are some savage and brutal blood scenes and the game did go a little too far with the sex scene (in which you control). I won't go into detail, but really, is this necessary to be included in a game???

Genius!

This game is perfect! It puts the player in the Greek mythological world of wonder, beauty, power, emotion, and lots and lots of bloodshed. NOT for kids! This game is very intelligent, researched, and apparent that the production crew took their time. To the makers of GOW - thank you for bringing video games to life and for such an extraordinary product! To the video gamers out there - highly recommend this to anyone searching for a very smart, interesting world where the protagonist can unleash all his fury and hate in a bloodthirsty rage after a crappy day at work! Well worth the $50... definitely go get this game if you are even thinking about it, and if you like this type of genre, you don't want to be without GOW. The only bad part about the game is that it came to an end... but what an ending! I will be waiting for the sequel, and it must include even more intrigue, myths, surprises, and inspirational awe (not to mention more hordes of beasts and monsters to slay - there's plenty in the myth books!), and maybe a play on the story of Kratos' brother.
Thank you to the creators of the game - Outstanding job!!! Truly 5-star work!!!

Best game EVER MADE! For REAL!!!!!!

This game is so f*#@in UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! It is the most INTENSE, heart pounding game I've ever heard of or seen. I didn't even know a video game could be like this. Seriously...it is absolutely AMAZING! The music makes you feel like you're actually "in the game". And that's not just a figure of speech. You actually feel like you're in the game. Like I said, I never knew a game could be like this. The only thing that sucks is, you don't ever want to play it by yourself because you are constantly wanting to call someone else into room and say things like, "LOOK AT THIS"!! "This is CRAZY"!! It is also SO MUCH FUN. I never want to stop playing. I have to FORCE myself to stop because I don't want it to end. When I beat God Of War, it's gonna be a terrible day. I NEVER want it to end. You HAVVVVEEEE to get it!!!!

Note: The guy that wrote a review on here that said he got frusturated about "kicking" a crate, etc etc...must be a complete retard. The game isn't even that hard at all, it's just pure fun. There's a "crate" towards the beginning that you have to kick across the deck of a ship, so that you can get on top of it to jump up onto a higher platform. BIG DEAL. What a retard. This is the best game ever made. No exageration. GET IT! NOW!

Hack, hack, hack

I want to add ahead of time that I just started playing video games again, after 3 years of no games. Why would I do that? I married a woman who said games are for kids...yep, divorced her and said marriage is for boring people!

Anyway, because of my time away from games it allowed me to go back and try out all the great games I had missed. This was #1 on my list.

What I found was a beautiful, hack, hack, chop, chop game. That was the outside of the surface, on the inside was some very small puzzles to work the brain a little. I read a review that said there were no puzzles in this game. What I am finding out is that the younger generation of gamers don't realize there are puzzles because they have this thing called the internet that has the things called walk-throughs that has these tips that take all of the puzzle solving parts out. Quit cheating you all, sheesh!

There was one puzzle where you had to move blocks by spinning them on a dial so that they would fit just right into a doorway. There was one where you had to drop a block from a crane onto a piece of the ground, just to name a few of them.

The star of the game is Kratos. You almost forget while playing it that he can die on the game. He is that great of a character. It is a pure adrenaline game. The story is great, you will see many figures from mythology that you have read about or will read about. The Sirens, Medusa, Hades, of course you are hunting Odin. I would call it one of the best games I have ever played. The first time through it took me 8 hours some odd minutes, so it isn't long, but you can always kick the difficulty up.

Possibly the best creature in it is the Titan or whatever they are calling it that has the last level strapped to its back. Beautiful levels and creation all through the game.

On a side note, the level of violence and nudity have been mentioned on other reviews. I would say the nudity is PG-13, topless, the only problem there is if the younger ones figure out that you can do more than look at the topless women. So, parents should be forewarned. The blood is bad, but I've seen worse on the PS2.

Give it a shot, part 2 looms and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Twist on Greek Mythology

God of War delivers the goods. A great action/adventure for the PS2. Let me break it down.

Graphics: Everything looks damn fine. Environments are detailed and beautiful. Characters look nice. Each has it's own look to it. It definitely wasn't a rushed.

Sound: Music goes with the whole Greek thing. Voice overs and action sounds are nicely done and sound great.

Controls: Fluid. Nothing else can be said.

Gameplay: Story is great, and the RPG elements give it a high replay value. Little mini-games while fighting monsters keep it nice and fresh. The combat also changes.

Violence: Non-stop and very gory. Blood gushes freely in this one.

Sexual Content: High. There is a female nudity throughout, as well as some sexuality, although it is not seen, it is heard and suggested.

Profanity/Adult Themes: There is some cussing, though most is in the special features of the game. There is also talk and consumption of alcohol.

WOW!i mean complete WOW!This game blew me away! The story, controls, music, and comtent made me wanna hug every single person who made this game.I was never
fully satisfied with SCEA's previouse games(Twisted Metal was ok but i thought they really could have done a better job). But i never stopped believing in them.God of War
is a must-have for any gamer(even the ones withourt ps2s)If u dont haf a PS2,WAT THE
@#$!% R U WAITING FOR!!??.buy one,and than buy this game!i was really moved by the personality of kratos, the main karacter. He is such a cruel guy,he has no pity for anyone else he will jus do watevr it takes to kill the God of War.I loved this game. But u should
be warned, there r boobies(a sequence were u can totally f--- two naked hot chicks in a bed at the same time, awsome),and there is an excessive amount of gore.Parents,be warned, this game is not for Little Timmy to have for his birthday.
The combat in this game is so well done, stabbing a sword into the mouth of a minotaur and watching the blood shoot out of his head like a geyser, never ever EVER gets old.The boss battles r the most amazing and fun things i ever experienced.Dont even get me started about the graphics.Thier so frikin incredible that u forget ur playing a current gen game. The down side is there is only 3 boss battles, and not for anyone over the age of 17(I must mention that f---ing two naked women in a bed is awsome.so do urself a hUUUUUUUge favor and buy this game.It truly is The God of All action games.

Wow, I just can't get over how well made this game is. The graphics are the best I've ever seen. Load times are nonexistent. The puzzles are fun. And my favorite thing: Easy Mode! I'm not much of an action gamer...my fingers just aren't fast enough for it, and I'm really in it more for the experience and the adventure. But in Easy Mode, the fighting is never overwhelming, so I get to focus on the things that I enjoy.

Some folks may be turned off or offended by the ultra-violence and/or nudity in the cutscenes, but for the rest of us, God of War is pretty much the perfect game.

Good, not great game, with a few flaws...

From all the high reviews this game has been getting, you might think its the best thing since sliced bread. But while this game might be extremely solid and well put together it is not without a couple of problems.

First off, the graphics, movies, sound, voices, and controls are all superb. Every single thing in this is seemless and smooth. Kratos has a ton of moves and yet none are difficult to pull off. The quality and time spent polishing this game really show.

But where the game starts to slide a bit is in its gameplay.
The boss battles in this game are awesome yet they are so few and far between. After killing the hydra in the first level you will probably play 6-8 more hours until you hit the second real 'boss' battle.

In between those 7 hours you will fight about 5 different enemies; Skeletons, harpies, minotaurs, cyclops, and medusas. THATS IT.
Fighting the same 5 enemies hundreds, if not thousands, of times does get old very quick.

And while some of the moves are awesome to behold the first time, you will wish you could skip them later on. Pinning a minataur to the ground was cool the first few times but after the 200th minataur i just thought of the move as a chore.

And what game designer thought those underwater traps and spinning towers of spikes were fun? It is NOT fun to die 30 times in a row at some of those ridiculous traps.
And seeing big bad Kratos tip toe across balance beams was funny too.

In the end, i had a good time with God of War. It was a very solid gameplay experience. However, i find this game to be highly overrated because of its repetitive hack and slash nature and a few of its overly difficult traps.

The Best Game I've Ever Played

I typically write pretty detailed reviews, but this one is pretty easy. Just when you think PS2 is "dated," a game like this comes along and makes you proud to be a 33-year-old gamer. Quite simply, "God of War" is the best game I've ever played on any system, and that's saying a lot. The action, story, mechanics, sound, graphics, gameplay, control, etc., are outstanding, and the game keeps you engrossed from start to finish. The mini-game battles bring something fresh and exciting to a genre that has seen its share of overused techniques like "bullet-time," and the "God powers" you receive are just plain cool. Using Medusa's cut off head to turn an enemy to stone never gets old.

The game is definitely for adults, and I for one cannot wait for the sequel. For the price now, it's a no-brainer. An absolute must-buy. The standard for excellence in action games.

I had no idea the Playstation was capable of this! This game looks like it belongs on the PS3 or XBox2. Most of the time, I couldn't tell when the cut scenes ended and the gameplay began. This game has one of the best storylines and absolutely the best gameplay and graphics I've ever seen...period! It's freakin beautiful.

This game carries a mature rating, and with good reason. Nudity, beheadings, gallons and gallons of blood and some spooky f'in music! Not for kids!

I usually play games like Ghost Recon, but this one sucked me in and still hasn't spit me out. Well worth the money...and I never say that about $50 games.
