Good, but nothing original

I downloaded the 115 meg demo as soon as I found it was available, eager to discover if Activision had succussfully accomplished what I had suspected about this title - the first good Star Trek game. I believe from playing the demo that they have finally done this, however, apart from the ST genre, it's nothing new. What it does have that UT and Q3A lack is a single-player plot, which I think is the best part of ST:EF. The borg are very well done and the atmosphere in the small playable sliver of single-player mode could not have been done better. Cut scenes are done within the game's engine rather than having been done by actors, which keeps the game seamless.

There's really nothing here for non-Star Trek fans, which is a real shame. ST:EF has all the usual components: Deathmatch, CTF, and team play (of which only deathmatch is playable in the demo), but it doesn't introduce anything new. This was one of UT's strengths. UT had several play modes that were new twists on the well-established and tired deathmatch/ctf arena.

It has always amazed me that the addictive spirit in the concept of Star Trek has never been successfully reproduced in a game. I'm still waiting for someone to introduce one in which you can explore space, interact with people on the ship, freely travel the ship and other locations. Maybe if they ever make a Star Trek EverQuest clone, this would be accomplished.

The real downfall that annoys me most is the AI in the multiplayer mode. I am a HUGE fan of FPS and I have never seen bots move like the computer-controlled players in this game. Their movements are choppy, random, and 3 times faster than any movement you can make yourself with your character. In Q3A or UT, an enemy might run down a hallway, stop, look around or shoot, then turn and run some more. In ST:EF, an enemy would run down a hallway bobbing from left to right in erratic, super-fast fashion making for a quick head-ache.

If I buy this game, I'll buy it for the single-player mode which has me highly impressed. However, I won't rush to the stores as soon as it releases and once I have it, I won't be in a hurry to introduce it in a LAN party. After playing the demo for DS9: the Fallen, however, I cannot wait for that one to release!

The best "Trek" computer game ever!

Wow! This game is the greatest in the "Trek" games to be out for the PC. I've bought plenty of what's out there. Some have been good, and many have been bad, such as "Klingon". This has to be the best of all of them. They have really outdone themselves this time. The graphics are great, the sound effects superb. You almost feel as if you're actually in a television episode.

The only mishap I had is when I purchased this game, I did not look at the box stating that a 3D card was required. My computer did not come with one when I bought it, so I had to do my first upgrade. It's only ... to get the Voodoo 3D card. Get that before you get this game, and you have it made.

I only wish the other "Star Trek" games could be as impressive as this one.

Fun!

This game is sooooooo fun! Any fan of Voyager would like it. And, with all the modifications, multiplayer (holomatch) maps and skins (what your character looks like) you can download it certainly gets more fun. The only thing that could improve this is the expansion pack and its "explore voyager" mode.

Its even better with cheats:
press tilda (the key next to 1 which looks like this `) and
type "god" then hit enter. Now you have infinte health and armor! Type "give all" and hit enter. Now you have all the weapons (if you have the expansion pack for Elite Force installed, you also get a tricorder and a hypospray)
When in the game, press "F11" and you take a screenshot. Go to the C:/Raven/Star Trek Voyager Elite Force/Baseef (or where you installed Elite Force) then click on the folder titled "Screenshots". All the screenshots are in .tga format so you need Microsoft Picture It! to view them.

shockingly impressive

The first 3D shooter game I've ever played was Doom. Since then I was an addict of these types of games (Hexen, Heretic, Quake, Duke Nukem, Blood, Jedi Knight...you name it) until I kind of "grew out" of it. I guess I just got sick of them in a way because there are just so many out there. So I never set my eye on these kinds of games again. But being a hardcore Star Trek fan, Elite Force really caught my attention. I just thought, "What the heck?", pulled two twenties out of my pocket, and took it home. I was really shocked! This game was fun! I just could not stop playing. Not only did it have good graphics, speed, etc., but it actually felt like I was part of an episode of Star Trek Voyager. That's what made it so fun to play for me, along with the heart-pumping action (unlike most 3D shooters, the monsters aren't those slow, zombie-type, moaning/growling type...monsters in this game actually scream, bum rush you and tear you up!).

I am almost absolutely certain that any Star Trek fan would love this game. Even if you finish the game once, you'd still wanna play it again. If you get bored of that, then you'll end up downloading all the maps provided on Elite Force fan sites...every day it's something new in those sites. I'd definitely recommend this game to Trekkers out there, regardless of whether or not you like 3D shooters or not. The demo is not enough, trust me.

Fun for Trekkies more than FPS players.

I've played most of the Trek games out there; this is by far the most fun and playable. The single-player game plays out much like a weekly espisode of voyager, with titles, intros, cut-scenes, and character interaction. The way the characters interact during the game is incredibly engaging; you're able to eavesdrop on casual conversations between crew members and such. The atmosphere and story are pure Trek, and the game tries hard to incorporate many of the fan's favorite parts of the series: Borg, Hirogen, 8472, universal cataclysms, evil aliens that can only be stopped by the rightousness and creativity of the Federation, etc. Most of the character's voices are the actual show's cast, which is cool. The multiplayer holomatches are even more fun and entertaining.

Ok, the downsides - the first person game is really short and easy. That is, up until the final boss, when the game becomes completely impossible to win because 1) that boss can kill you with one attack and 2) that boss's attacks always land. The levels are small and completely linear, so its impossible to get lost or confused because there's always just one way you can go. The character dialog is Trek-like, but doesn't really par up to the show. And the different alien species don't behave differently enough to make fighting them interesting (with the exception of the Borg). This game also requires one beefy system to run smooth. I was playing on a 500mhz/96MB ram with a voodoo 2, and every time the action got heavy the game play started getting slow and skippy.

The multiplayer is a lot of fun too, but I think it's due mostly to the fact that it's Trek - you're shooting Trek weapons and fighting Trek characters. The weaponry in the game is not terribly diverse, but in all honesty I've waited a long time to be able to say "fire phasers, torpedos away." And that's what makes this game fun!

Elite force is an Elite type game

I bought this game with pretty high expectations and I was not disappointed. It is the best trek game out there and a great FPS. People who dont like star trek or even hate it can still like this game. The story is good and worthy of being an actual episode, hell it would make a great episode. Get this game

3 for single player, and an extra for Multi-player

When I first started playing on this game along time ago, I thought the missions were a little boring and that's the first and one of very few draw backs I found. Heck, the graphics are great, the sound is good, level designs impressive and large, but the fun factor I think is just a little boring and tedious and you end up fighting your way through the surprisingly short game to end up with a quite frankly awful and short end sequence. The game is great for Trekies but if you're just after a good FPS, look elsewhere, unless...

The multi-player makes up the lack of single player 'enjoyment' I think. Not just for playing on-line but for playing against the computer or even with the computer in team games. The customisation option is great, you can even change the amount your man gets pushed back when shot, and the speed you can run and the speed at which ammo is re created. There are in the region of 10 multi-player maps and are all worth playing.
This fine example of making a game totally repayable is something all FPS games should employ, it allows infinite gaming joy as you can find your sweet spot skill level and try to beat it in free for all, team, or capture the flag modes.
Good multiplayer game, not bad single player game.

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!

Since the creation of consoles, I really had stopped playing PC games but this is an excellent game! The action is non-stop and the AI is onpoint. The only draw back is that I had to buy a new video card because my old card didn't support OpenGL. I would recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of first person shooters. I preferred the DS9 series but this game from the Voyager series rocks! Before you buy this game, make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements. If you are like me and have been in XBOX and Playstation world, give this PC game a try. You won't regret it.

This new expansion pack is full of new exciting things to do. My favorite part of this new software is the tour. You can bassicly do whatever you want to. Also you get 22-24 new holomatch games which are the best! If your're a voyager fan, you should definitly get this

Overall, I thought that this game was very fun. You have a large choice of weapons such as standard phaser, phaser rifle, scavenger rifle, tachyon pulse, Infinity modulator. I am a major Star Trek fan so I really liked it that I could explore the ship, which is something that I have always wanted to do. Also, the whole game wasn't just shoot, kill, shoot, and kill. There were a few missions that you could simply go to the lounge and talk with the crew and so-on. There were some things that were a setback for me. My computer has 350 mhz processor, 128 mb of RAM, plenty of hard drive space, a 52x cd-rom drive, and an 8 mb graphics card. Now, obviously, I am not saying that I have the best system in the world but it is decent. There is nothing wrong with my computer, but the sound is always skipping, it lagged a bit, and the loading times were sometimes very long and I had it on max. install. The requirements are 266 mhz, 64 mb of RAM, 'bout 600 mb hard drive space & 8 mb graphics. So i am dissapointed with that. And, I need to make a comment on the story line. It just seemed like activision didn't spend much time on the story line. It was your typical aliens trying to take over the galaxy and only voyager could stop them. And to me it seemed to melodramatic. However I did think that the game was fun and am still not tired of it after a couple of months. If you have a good cmputer, I would reccomend this game to you, especially if you are a Star Trek fan.
