I originally bought this game with my Nintendo 64 in (I think) 1996. I think the last time I played with it was 1999. My son is 4 years old and he saw the box in a closet so my wife hooked it up for him. We figured he would run around with Mario and have some fun. Did he ever. the kid was collecting stars and having a blast!
We are moving to Texas this summer and we decided to get him a Nintendo DS for the long car ride. He has had this game for 3 or 4 weeks and just collected star # 99.
The greatest thing about this game is there are more characters. You start out as Yoshi and as you collect stars and keys you can release Mario, Luigi and Wario from the doors Bowzer locked them behind.
Some of the courses and stars within are exactly the same as the original, but there are new ones as well.
This is a great improvement on a classic!!!!
Not what I expected

I had waiting to buy this game for a long time, thinking that it was going to be so great. Well I received it for my birthday and was very disappointed. This is not fun, gets boring very quickly, and is SO hard to control. I don't know what Nintendo was thinking bringing this to the DS because it is almost impossible to control your character's movements. The touch screen is very hard to use for this and the control pad is almost just as bad. I got the 3rd area and was already both bored and frustrated with the game. Because of the horrible controls, you will fall off cliffs and ledges many, many times. Plus all you do in the game is go through ridiculous battles with enemies just to collect stars. The only things I even like about this game are the mini games. The mini games are actually pretty good but they're not worth buying the game for. And the graphics are pretty good as well. But honestly unless you're willing to deal with the difficult controls and want to see what the mini games are, then I would not recommend buying this game.
Another revist

Super Mario Ds is a great game. I liked it, but haven't we seen al this before? It was a total remake of the first one. However, you can be Yoshi, Wario, Luigi, and Mario. They all have diferent abilities which takes the game in a different direction. Great but you have to switch characters a lot to accomplish things. Good game. A must get for a DS

Amazon is ripping you off. Go to ebgames.com and click on the nintendo DS picture, then click the link that shows you all the upcoming titles. SUPER MARIO 64X4 IS ONLY $30!!! NOT $35!!!!
For games, ditch amazon and go to ebgames.com or an EBgames store. And no, I'm not an employee with ebgames. I just love games and love EBgames!!

The wife and I bought this game for our 7 year old daughter and she loves it. It didn't take long for our 5 year old son to start playing it as well. Finally, mom and I started playing it too. The graphics are great as are the sounds. Multiplayer is fun and an added bonus to an already great game. If you like 3D games this one is a definite winner.

This is an awsome remake of an already awsome game.Super Mario 64 was one of the best N64 games ever.I use to play it all the time. This game is one of the reasons why I even bought a DS.The are like 2 new missions in each level and u can be 4 different characters. The rumored luigi in Super Mario 64 is now playable in the remake, also yoshi and wario as well.Over all great game!
Great, but could be better.

Let me start out by saying this game is rather enjoyable. While the graphics are about the same as a Nintendo 64 yet a little sharper, the gameplay is amazing, as you can play with 4 people; Wario; Mario; Yoshi; and Luigi. One of the main problems is the difficulty. The movement is harder with the stylus and touchscreen, and using a control pad is not perfect. Also, it's more momentum-based and is very slipper, and you fall very many times. The difficulty is the worst part. Getting the normal stars is fine, but some of the secret stars or 100 coin stars are devilishly hard to find. But seeing as this is one of the only DS games, it's the only game you should buy, until more are released. Seeing my favorite N64 game on a handheld brings me bliss.
a classic that has gone portable

When I was younger I remember the Ol' Days playing Nintendo 64 with my brother and my cousin, those were the days....Ok,I loved Mario 64,the original one,and I think the DS version is much better because of its graphics and because you can have the control of Mario,Yoshi,Luigi and Wario in your front pocket!
STORY:
This game is like what really happend in the Nintendo 64 Edition.Back then Mario just went into the castle to eat cake but this time he is not alone: Wario and Luigi are with him. After years of not retuning,Yoshi notices and is obligated to go into the castle and rescue them.
If you are about to buy a ds or havent bought it YET then I recommend that you get this game before all the rest because with this game, you get trained on using the DS buttons.
Great Game!

I thought this game was AMAZING!!! The best part is exploring princess peach's castle. The thing is about this game is that it isnt side scrolling like all the other mario games. This is more like super mario sunshine. (but better) The levels are all different and unique in their own ways. I love the mountain levels where you have to climb big mountains! The Bob omb hills, The mushroom mountain place, and the twhomp towers are my favorites! (I forgot the real names) What makes it better is that you can play as yoshi, luigi, or wario also! Mountains, Mazes, Deserts, Oceans, Up in the sky, YOU CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH!!!!
Music 10/10
Control 9/10
entertaining 1000000000000000000000/10!!!!!!
WORTH IT!!! You should buy this wonderful game!!
