Love It

Love this game. Limited camera view on the 3D action. You play as Yoshi and can get hats that change you into the other characters. It is basically the same game as the original, the layout is pretty much the same. Two player action is good too. Good graphics.

My kids would not put this game down. I got this game for Christmas and they loved it. Very fun game for kids and adults to play together.

If you've ever played Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64 game system you'll see this is probably very similar. I never really played the Nintendo 64 version for more than a couple of hours total but there are parts in it that just look familiar. The only reason I didn't give the game 5 stars is because of the controls. It's kind of hard to move around in some parts of the game. This is mostly because this game was designed to be controlled with a control stick with 360 degree movement rather than the Up, Down, Left, Right control pad on the Nintendo DS. Other than that the game is pretty entertaining and challenging. On the back of the box it mentions that it's basically the whole game from the Nintendo 64 system PLUS even more levels. So it's like having the N64 game, plus more, and it's portable.... Good reasons to buy it.

You have to get this

If you have played it before on the N64, and haven't played in awhile, get this. It is the same story with a twist. You can now choose from four characters.
You start with Yoshi
then you rescue Mario
then Luigi
then Wario
Each character has their own unique abilities and that helps contribute to making this game last. You can now strategize how you will handle each level. Each character (except Yoshi) now picks up one of the old Red Box abilities from SM64.

Mario gets the wings

Luigi can walk through certain walls and doesn't take damage.(Blue Box from SM64)

Wario gets the metal body.(Green Box from SM64)

Plus there are an extra 30 Stars, and the graphics are twice as good.
They should have called it Super Mario 128 DS...
but that doesn't roll off the tongue well.

Great but Hard

The 3D is really cool but the game is hard to defeat. You'll enjoy it but you gotta have skills to win. so buy this if you have THE skills.

This game is DEFINATLY an improvment from the first N64 one. 3 more players, 30 more stars, WAYY better graphics, and mini games make this a game worth buying a DS alone for.

GREAT DS GAME BETTER THAN ORIGINAL

Super Mario 64 for DS is even better than the original for Nintendo 64. There are three new characters to play as: Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi. Each character has their own special abilities. With a power flower(new) Mario can be a blimp, Luigi invisible, Wario metal and Yoshi breathes fire! The controls are a little difficult to master at first, but you will get the hang of it as you continue through the game. This game is an excellent addition to your DS collection!

Still trying to get 150 stars...

This game is great! I've played only a portion of the original Nintendo 64 version.

The addition of more characters, missions, etc make this game a worthwhile purchase, definitely a must-have for any Mario enthusiast. Depending on your goal in the game, it can either be finished quickly, or take ages to finish. In fact, I'm going to go play it again.

It's cool
