EFFING AMAZING

So I've had my share of games that i beat in a week or let alone an hour, this stopped it. I think the developers are trying to send a message to us to start thinking more when they made the Japanese hard mode our Normal mode. I've gotten headaches and blisters from this game, and im still loving it. Don't judge my rating immediatley though. This game wasn't to fun to start off for me (first DMC game ive played), and I had my ass handed to me at the end of the second level, to figure out theyres no returns. If your a gamer like me you WILL drop f-bombs everynow and then after a lot of playtime ended in a couple hits.

Unlike some games where I've lost brain cells from how incredibly RETARTED they are (cough, superman 64, cough), I think ive actually gained some. Now thats good stuff ha

Very Very Good Game....for Hardcore Gamers ONLY!!!

To start off I'd like to say that I've been playing video games for almost 20 years now and this is the single most difficult game I've ever played. Nothing has been even close.

I can beat Contra without the Konami Code, Mike Tysons Punchout without getting punched once, and Super Metroid in about 2 hours. I've even beaten MGS2 without killing anyone.

None of that compared to the challenge of this game.

Not only is it hard, there is an Mt. Everest Level learning curve.

From the start it seems Capcom decided to say "Go ahead and enjoy getting your butt whipped" right from the start.

I've beaten Ninja Gaiden for XBOX and that game is candy compared to this one.

To try and understand its difficulty, I'd recommend playing Ninja Gaiden on Hard mode...and not using the block button.

Cutscene Dante is a lot tougher than user controlled Dante as he dies WAY to easily.

Speaking of dying, I enjoy a good challenge but to make the game even more difficult it contains the most ridiculous save system known to man. If you die without continues, you have to start over from the beginning of the level, which can be 30 minutes long.

If you want continues you have to spend your hard earned money on them, and they get more expensive the more you die. You end up replaying beaten levels to try and earn enough to support your needs for life elixers and continues....not my idea of fun.

To give credit where credit is due, the game does have an excellent control system, the best graphics on the PS2, and a semi coherent storyline that I enjoyed.

I did eventually finish the game, but I can't really say I had too much fun doing so. The game felt like an addicting job, which is a credit to the game as any lesser game this hard would have ended up getting shelved or sold.

I'd strongly recommend renting or borrowing a friend's copy before buying.

I can see hardcore gamers eating this up and enjoying it as well as casual gamers getting slaughtered by the 3rd level's boss and never playing the game again.

Good game, but I'd recommend trying before buying.

Really fun and exciting...once you get past the first few levels...

The good thing, this game is probably the best action/adventure game that I have ever played next to God of War. The bad thing, you need to get past the enormously hard default difficulty level, which is called normal, then once you die a few times, you can change it to what's thought of as easy. Do yourself a favor and die a few times to set it to easy, also, the health meter starts off fairly short and in about 4-6 hits, depending on the strength of the opponant hitting you, you have lost, which is all too bad, because if you tough it out, you'll understand what all the rave about this game is. Well, I got used to it alright, but after loosing countless times. If you are like me and many others, however, you will figure it out, and when you go back to replay those first few levels on a higher difficulty, you'll wonder how they ever gave you as hard a time as they did.

Bottom line, this game is awesomely enormous, super fun, and extremely exciting. Graphicaly, the game beats the demons out of the earlier ones, plenty of pun intended, and the replay value is greater as well, which you'll have the best feature I definetly think that's new in this installment to thank, the ability to switch your weapons on the fly. This means no more having to stick with repetetive combos with one weapon at a time, pressing start to change your weapon from the options, then continuing with more repetetive combos limited to that one weapon you just changed to. You can switch guns with L2, and swords with R2, in the middle of all your devistating combos to add on to all of the carnage, and this time, the combos are only limited by your very immagination. Also, another great feature is the style selection at the beginning of each mission, and in between some missions at checkpoints. This includes Trickster, which is a style that focuses more on Dante's finess and acrobatic abilities, Swordmaster, which focuses more on his, you guessed it, sword weilding abilites, Gunslinger, same but with guns, and Royalguard, focusing more on his defensive skill. In each style, you have access to all weapons as equally and easily, but you gain more experience for a specific weapon type. In other words, if you play more in Gunslinger style, you will unlock Firearm upgrades faster and more easily than Swords, and vise versa. Plus all of the great classic and new costumes for Dante, and a bad-@$$ gallery mode, both of which are unlocked during play. Plus 2 more difficulty settings, Hard, and Dante Must Die. Apparently, the normal difficulty setting in the American version is the Hard setting in the Japanese version, was that some sort of sick, tasteless joke? Oh well.

As complex as it is, it is that much more fun and entertaining. I can't say any more good about it. Fans of the series should definetly not miss out, and people who have never played a DMC game ever, should at least try it out if they have any action/adventure experience.

This Game stinks. It is way to difficult. I don't like to pay $50 dollars so I can get fustrated and lose all the time. CAPCOM did NOT have the casual gamer in mind when they created this piece O crap. DO NOT BUY. RENT FIRST.

Nice Style but Not Up to Modern Standards

Devil May Cry is the prequel to a series about a pair of brother / demons who kick, hack and slash their way through the world. There are zombies galore!

The game goes in heavily for style, with a white-haired, muscular young adult male in Dante who plays the drums, eats pizza, and enjoys spinning swords and shooting guns while holding them sideways, gangster style. There are plenty of one-liners and cool poses to keep cool-seeking players happy for weeks.

The game is a mission-based level fighter, where you work on one mission, get past it, go on to the next mission, and so on. In each mission you choose a 'style' of gameplay. You can focus on swords, on guns, on dodging or blocking. As you level up in a given style, you learn new techniques.

The game isn't just about button mashing. I've heard that some find this game maddeningly hard, and in fact after a while of playing you unlock 'easy' mode to help you out if the normal gameplay is just too rough for you. But really, the game isn't about all the typical 'helpers' like health potions and power-ups. It's about learning and perfecting your skills.

The graphics are reasonably good, although not nearly up to par with other current games. The backgrounds are dark and gloomy, with broken cars and busted windows, but a lost of the mystique is lost with the jaggy edges and repetitive decor. There are several other PS2 games I can name that get this 'moody' atmosphere done much more nicely.

The sound is mostly about pounding rock music to go with the heavy-hitting main character. You don't play this one for the mood or envelopment of atmosphere - you play it to slay zombies by the thousands.

All in all, this is a game that will definitely appeal to a certain group of gamers - those looking for fast-paced fighting, with a dark, zombie / heavy metal hard rock attitude to it. There isn't a HUGE amount of gore, and since you're fighting zombies it's not as "bad" as say the Grand Theft Auto series. There is some challenge in mastering the skills for each path - and to fight masses of enemies to work your way up the D / C / B / A / S / SS traditional Japanese measure of skill.

But I have to admit, the graphics just didn't thrill me very much, the music was a bit grinding and uninspired, and the game became very repetitive once you got the basics mastered. With the wealth of other games currently on the market, this is one we played through a few times and then put aside, while we played our other games for months on end.

Still, if you're looking for a game that requires some skill, that rewards persistence and doesn't hand out easy item-oriented wins in a zombie-filled world, Devil May Cry 3 may be just what you're looking for.

DMC3 is a great new action adventure. But it does have a few problems it's one of the hardest games ever,EVER! This game will really kick your butt about a zillion times. The game does have good parts too it has great graphics and it has perfect cut scences and if you die enough you can unlock easy mode buy don't get your hopes up because i'ts not that much easier but i recomend you start over and go ahead in that mode. It also let's you choose between three different fighting modes trickster, gunslinger, and swordmaster. I highly recomend you pick trickmaster which let's you dodge enemies attacks much easier. You can choose the others to make the game even harder if your really up for a challenge. If you love interesting boss battles, mind blowing cut scences, cool grapics this is the game for you, I give it a 9 out of 10

This is an unbelievably great game. Oh my god it rocks. It has so many sweet combos and runs at great speed with short loading times.
You can also attack the loading screen!!! If you haven't played the series yet this is a prequel to the first and therefore you should get this one first. It is the hardest of the series. DON'T GET DMC2. IT SUCKS!!!! This game has unbelievable graphics (running at 60 FPS) and is the best action game I have seen yet. Better than DMC. Better than RE4. Better than Doom 3. Posiibly one of the best games out there. It is unbelievably sweet!!!

Ninja Gaiden Meets the Matrix

Let me get something off of my chest right away, before anything else: this game is NOT DMC 2. Everything that Capcom did right in DMC have been brought back and improved on, and everything that made DMC 2 oh-so-stupid has been sent to the pits of the Underworld.

Those of you who liked the added elements of DMC2 (ie. running on walls, multi-directional shooting, and dodging) have been brought back with a whole ton more of polish. With the ability to choose your fighting style (Swordmaster, Trickster, Royal Guard, and Sharp Shooter), you can pull off insane combos with even more insane weapons. For example you can send an enemy into the stratosphere with a sword, then switch off to your nunchuku and continue the combo with even more insane damage. And all looking as stylish as ever.

Major fans of the series may be disappointed with Dante's new party-boy look, but he's supposed to be 19. Don't be too turned off.

I just have two complaints about this game. One: Though it is obvious that the developers borrowed more than one example from Ninja Gaiden, it isn't nearly pulled off as smoothly. Though the whole presentation looks smooth as butter, it doesn't feel as smooth or as natural as the sweet moves of Ninja Gaiden.

The other is that you don't get Dante's actual demon form until around the seventh mission. Other than that, DMC 3 is a must-bye for any fan of the series. Buy. It. NOW.

A Classic "Rent Before You Buy"

First and foremost this game is extremely, extremely difficult. The single hardest game i have ever played. Now, im not one to complain about game difficulty, because often time an easy game you can beat in 3 hours is far worse than a very hard game. But, frankly, i don't know what capcom was thinking when they made this video game. Get to the end of a half hour board, fall victim to a nearly impossible boss, then start the board all over again. In my opinion its ludacris. As i said before, most action games are and should be challenging, but this game takes the expression to a level that i personally do not even want to be on. I will not spend Thirty minutes on a board, Die, then be forced to go through the entire board all over again. If You wanna spend an entire day or two on one board, go ahead and buy this game. I will be selling my copy of the game. The Graphics and gameplay are very good, but the structure of the game and the difficulty make this game terrible.
