More Dante Please!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

I am a devoted Playstation gamer. I've played tons of games, & have never found a series that impacted me as much as the DMC series.

I didn't mind the second one, but I haven't played it since I 1st purchased it, so it obviously wasn't worth picking up again & has been collecting dust unlike my original DMC that I break out every so often.

I know a lot of people were unsure of whether this game would be as good as the original, but if you ask anyone who has played it you will quickly find out that not only is it "as" good but at times a lot better.

The game is a prequel to the original, showing us a little more depth into the original story & into the relationship gone sour that Dante has with his brother Vergil. Apparently Vergil has given into the "dark side" of the demon within him, whereas Dante is more anchored towards finding his mothers murderer. Their conflicting morals, & views on the world have separated them for a year, until now.

Assisted by a man named Arkham, Vergil sets out to re-open a hell gate, by doing so becoming demonic ruler of our world. One thing however could possibly stop his plans for domination, & that is his equally demonic brother Dante. An epic battle is about to take place, & us gamers get a front row seat...

Into the game play. I find the entire thing fun beyond anything I've ever done. I read about the gamer who took two hours to kill the boss in Mission 2, & that was me as well...lol It didn't take me two hours, but it did take a lot of effort to get past it (I had to set the controller down in frustration a few times). I admit, playing the game for the 1st time I was mashing buttons till my fingers were raw trying to beat the Scythe though...lol ow...

The truth is DMC3 is hard, but a game review put it best that once you get a few missions in the game flows better & once you've gotten use to Dante's moves & abilities, going back to the 1st couple of missions doesn't seem as hard. This game is a learning experience, & once you can get into the flow every enemy you kill will give you such a satisfaction that you managed to beat them.

The new Style addition is wonderful. I have tried them all out so far, & found that it was the Royal Guard style that helped me most during my 1st play through. The standard Styles are as follows:

-Trickster- This is recommended for beginners on the game because it helps you to evade attacks from enemies & that might save you during a really tough fight. Dante is evasive, quick & tends to do more things such as aerial jumps & flips of all kinds.

-SwordMaster- This is for people (like me) who tend to stick with their melee/sword like weapons. By playing in this mode more actions while using your swords becomes available.

-Gunslinger- For the rest of you who don't like up close combat & prefer to maim at a distance...lol Dante can do much more things with his guns on this mode.

-RoyalGuard- This is the clever mode I used the most during my game. It helps to keep the damage enemies inflict lower, & Dante's special move is that he can block attacks. Also it helps Dante to quickly get into a more defensive position when enemies are around.

Two more are acquired while playing through the game your 1st time, but I won't ruin those ones. Each style while playing the game becomes upgraded to a new level, giving the player even more moves to add into their combos while playing.

Not to say you can't swap. In between missions & if you find a Divinity Statue you can switch to a different style if you find the one you're using isn't working well with the tasks needed to be performed.

Not so new to the game, but upgraded is the combo ratings while fighting with enemies. Instead of words like "Dope!" or "SSStylish!" only popping up on the screen, a small bar appears below it that will increase or decrease depending on how persistent you are with laying the smack down on your enemies. In turn this encourages the players to become comfortable with using combos, & to not be repetitive. This is how you truly can put the game to work for you, because Dante has a vast list of attacks for both his devil trigger & regular play.

I was always a button masher, who looked at the original & couldn't dream of performing a S grade combo, but as I played this game & it forced me to learn the combo system I can make Dante do some spectacular things & it makes me proud to say so... :)

Combos are also extremely vital to the game though this time around. Lovers of the original will remember that as you buy an item the price of "red orbs" needed to purchase an item, or a further upgrade of something increases. After a while a small vital star (to partially heal lost health) is 5000 red orbs... A large Vital star sits at 10,000 after a while... With each boss you get more points for beating them, but at the beginning you don't get much for boss fights in the way of red orbs.

Considering how hard this game is, you will be using a lot of health stars in the first couple of missions. Without doing good combos your overall bonus of red orbs at the end of a mission (determined by your over all score, D-S) can help you to afford the power ups, weapon, & ability upgrade you'll need to beat the game.

The replay value of this game is sick (in the good way). Not only can you unlock things like, videos, images, & original concept art, but you now have 4 unlock able costumes, 5 unlock able characters, 3 difficulty levels, & not to mention playing through the game with all 5 available Styles...

The only downfall (which is barely noticable after a while & seems to add to the frustration of the game) is that there are no check points in the game. While playing through a mission, if you make it all the way to a boss fight & die, you have to play the entire mission over again.

The only way to play from where you died is if you have a Yellow Orb, so when you die instead of just a "Restart the Mission" option you also get a "Continue" option which puts you back to the place you were when you died. Luckily the Yellow Orbs stay at 3000 red orbs throughout the game, so once you really get going they are a good investment.

For any fans of the original, there is plenty to love about this game. For newbies, you're so lucky to be able to experience both 1 & 3 for the 1st time (try 2, but don't judge the others by it). This is a game guaranteed to please gamers of all genre's.

Not for everyone

After the commercial failure of Devil May Cry 2, Capcom has gone back to its roots in this third installment, which is actually a prequel to Devil May Cry. The foes, the brilliant gothic environments, the action, the dialog, the whole atmosphere of the game, all reminds of Devil May Cry (1).

New features have been added as well. They are various fighting styles to choose from, and you can switch them in between levels. There are more weapons, more moves, a more advanced map system, and the ability to switch weapons on the run. Your fighting styles also have a level-up system.

Graphics and sound are simply amazing. Dante's appearance is a little disappointing. He looks just different; it looks like he got a nosejob after DMC 3 (prior to DMC 1). His attitude is more childish and exaggerated, often annoying if you are not like 14 years old, but that fits well with the story, I guess, since this is supposed to be a more immature Dante.

Now why isn't this game for everybody and I give it a not-so good rating? Well, simply, because CAPCOM has turned the difficuly up a HUGE notch. Even in easy mode it is a pain. The insane difficulty will suit more hardcore gamers who like the challenge of beating a difficult game, but for more casual gamers, it really disrupts the flow of the game. Especially since when you die you have to repeat the whole mission from the beginning, and more often than not you will die at the end off the mission (boss fight). Again, I would not mind it as much if it didnt disrput the flow of the game and make it so much of a chore. If you don't mind this, and like challenging games, then definitely consider this a 5 star game and go and get it. If this turns you off, avoid this game like the plague!

A little bit fun but boring for a while

Just like the title says, the game is a little bit fun but boring after a while. The cut scenes and character movements are gorgeous but it gets boring after awhile. If you don't have the walkthrough, this game is really difficult to beat. Character optimization page is a little bit confusing too.

Best action game i have ever played

I just bought my new ps2 a few weeks ago and i wanted to play devil may cry 3. I have never played any games in the series before. So, while i was waiting for it to arrive at my door, i rented devil may cry 1 just to get a taste of what i was getting into. The few hours i played the first one, i was so impressed. I was even more anxious to get my hands on the third installment. But i was really worried about the difficulty level from every single review i had read. Saying that it was so hard on normal that you would want to quit the game only 20 seconds into it.

Well, i got it in the mail and i have played devil may cry 3 for a week straight. I like this game better than ninja gaiden. Here's a quick cap on the game.

There are 20 mission total and there are 12 secret mission. each secret mission will give you a piece of a life stone upon completion. Collect four stone and you get a bigger life bar. It took me 23 hours to complete the game on normal difficulty. If normal is too hard for some players, they can play on easy. After you beat it on normal, you unlock a bunch of stuff. Plus you unlock the hard difficulty. beat hard, and i think you unlock shadownight difficulty. Beat that and you unlock heaven or hell. This game has a lot of reply value. I never got tired of the game, and i always had fun. In some games, if you die, you could get very mad. But when i died in DMC3, i didn't care. I just had so much fun, plus you can save the game right before you die, and you will keep all of your orbs you have collected which are needed to upgrade moves and buy items. You will have to play some levels a few times just to get more orbs. I highly reccomend this game to anyone that likes action games.

Great game

Devil May Cry 3 is a great game. One pro about the game is to beat it you have to complete it in easy normal hard Dante Must Die and Heaven or Hell to officially beat te game. Another pro about the game is you get different things when you beat the game. When you beat it on easy you get movie gallery, new costume, and pictures. When you beat it on normal you get movie gallery, new costume, and pictures. When you beat it on hard you get to play as Sparda. Another pro about the game is a good game overall you get a game that will take awhile to beat and good stragety. One con about the game is it costs 49.99 not including tax. It is worth the money but is a big cost. Another con about Devil May Cry 3 is it is a tough game to beat. To beat it without a stragety guidge is impossible. Another con is the camera angle still messes you up at time. The camera angle can sometimes screw you up in gameplay. Overall Devil May Cry 3 is a great game it has lastability, good graphics, and great amount of difficulty.

Redemption at Last!!

I loved this game. In fact it is my favorite video game. I love the "Devil May Cry" series. I even got kinda used to the second one after the initial huge dissapointment of it.

To me, this one surpasses the previous two by a long shot. It has a great in depth storyline, great characters, and is just overall a great game.

As for the difficulty, well, the first time I played it(I've played it like 4 times through already) I found some of the bosses, namely Cerebus, Nevan, and Heart of Leviathan, to be VERY frustrating, but usually beat them after about the 3rd try. The first half of the game was much more difficult than the second half and there are some easier bosses that are actually fun to beat, like Beowulf and the Vergil fights. And truth is, I really am not good at playing video games(I can't get very far in 99% of the games I play without dying or getting so frustrated I give up), so if I can beat it, it can't be THAT difficult.

Speaking of difficulty, the replayability factor is great. In fact, I found the game to be more fun the second time through than the first, because it's just not as difficult.

The characters are great, and the storyline is very detailed, with over an hour and a half of cut scenes. Dante is at his prime in this game, however, I must admit that I thought that Vergil is a cooler character. He just seems more complex, whereas Dante is just kinda a smart a** with one liners. Of course, that's why we like Dante. Arkham is the ultimate in "eww" and I think that Lady fits perfectly in the game.

The game of course has it's negatives, like, the music on the game is good, HOWEVER, it's too damn repetitive. I love the main song from the game, but after listening to it every time you fight something, it gets old very quickly.

Also, while I liked Lady, she seemed a little too superhuman for being just a human. I mean, I don't know how many people would get stabbed, shot, and beat-up and just be "tired."

And I must say there are some cutscenes that are just a bit on the ridiculous side. Like getting a killer electric guitar that calls bats REALLY made me cringe. And driving a motorcycle up a vertical building, or falling forever from the tower.

Other than that, the game is a MUST!! It is the best game out there and I highly recommend it.

Devil May Cry at FULL POWER

God Damn was this a good game. I beat it and I say this game rocks. I love it so much. This is definitly the best devil may cry game ever. This game has so many good qualities to it. The story line is so good. As you know its a prequal to the first and second DMC and the story is Dante's twin brother Vergil has come up from the underworld with a tower. The tower rose out from the ground. Vergil has asked for you to meet him at the top for he wants your blood to open the gate to hell and to get Sparda's power. You have to go through the tower and some other place. The game is so good and the graphics are amazing. Dante does so many cool moves in the cutscenes i cant even believe it. He definitly has the coolest ways to killing people. You can also customize dante and make him better at either, royal guard (fighting skills), swordmaster (sword skills), Trickster (dodging skills and ability), and gunslinger (gun skills). Throughout the game you get to power up your skills and advance them. The boss fights are so good and you will want to fight them over and over again. The only two problems with this game is that it can get really hard at times and i mean really hard, and that dante sometimes acts like a kid, but what do you expect hes a teenager, he fools around. Anyway get this game I recommend this game to everybody. [...] This has been another review from DARTH RAGE.

This game is really cool.

Although this game can get extremely difficult, it's extremely cool as well as fun. I love Dante's guns and sword techniques, and the style of the game. Some puzzles get annoying and confusing without a guide, and some fights are hard, but without the effort, there is no fun. This is a great game, especially for people who love swords, guns, and fighting.

Devil May Cry 3 is without a doubt one of the most difficult games I've played in my career of gaming. It's not disc-destroying difficult, but it definitely will cause you to cough up a lot of cash for controllers. The GH edition isn't as difficult as the original, due to the unlimited continues, but it's still hard in its own right. You can also play as Vergil, unlock the new Very Hard mode, and fight a new boss, who isn't really that great (so easy compared to the other bosses). Overall, buy this game if you want to destroy some controllers.
