Quake3 Vs Unreal T

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 9 / 22

Ive read all the other reviews about Quake3 and UT and averybody says that UT has better graphics better AI on the botmatch mode, or better skins, better models etc ... Well ive played the demos Q3 Test (new Version) and the UT demo. On my opinion Quake3 arena has MUCH MUCH better gaphics, animation and gameplay and the AI of the bots its not bad at all. Also the multiplayer code has been improved. Dont forget that its a test not a demo so it will be much more improved. Id Software made her miracle for once again....

Q3A Rocks! But UT Rules!

Let's be objective here...instead of all the magazine bull hype.

I've played Q2 since it first came out. The "test" Q3A versions gave a real hint at how great this game will be. But when I first started playing UT demo, Q3A started to look a little pale.

Look Q3A is a vastly improved engine from Q2. But it just doesn't compare to UT. Look at the graphics, character skins, gameplay and bots AI. Be honest. Play both demos. The answer will always be the same...UT rules!

Don't get me wrong. Q3A absolutely will be incredible to play. I can't wait to play some new maps.

Quake 3 Arena = No-Brainer FPS

"The Ultimate Deathmatch Experience". This is the motto of the game. Sounds fun. But killing and being killed by either the rocket launcher and rail gun and in one shot 20 times a minute is not my definition of fun. It's just basically point and shoot and hit space to respawn. Only good side to the game are the incredible graphics. Nice eye candy but then you have to by yourself a 3D accelerator because it won't play without one. The sound is very shoddy, characters' moaning and grunting sounds are terrible. Don't bother trying to run this on a dial-up internet connection because the game will lag majorly. Single player game gets boring because the bots don't use any strategies whatsoever. If you're used to the class system of Team Fortress Classic or the team style play of Starseige: Tribes then Quake 3: Arena will be a major disappointment. The structure of the levels are weak in comparison to the previous mentioned titles and the weapons are taken directly from the Quake II. Save your money and buy Unreal: Tournament or the upcoming Team Fortress 2.

Excellent Game! (AND PERFORMS PERFECTLY ON A VOODOO3!)

Quake3 is one of the highest quality products that id Software has ever produced. I've been playing this game since the early demos, and the shine on the final commercial version was still surprising.

It compares well with Unreal Tournament. Unreal has its advantages, the most famous being the flashy "eye candy," but both games are gorgeous. I like Quake3's feel better, and the network play of Quake is far smoother than that of Unreal.

A final note, this game DOES NOT REQUIRE a TNT or Geforce. I've been playing it on my Voodoo3 since the game was released, and it performs FLAWLESSLY. The card fully supports OpenGL, and all effects are rendered as intended. I'm not just lucky either, ALL Voodoo cards will work!

Outstanding.

A good Deathmatch game actually a great Deathmatch game

The only thing that this game lack's is more of the original games that is the places to hide cooler weopons and stuff like that. The good things this game has are, the gameplay: its super, the graphics: they're 100% fantastic. But it gets a little less exiting when you have finished the game 16 times. Then there is the skirmishes....capture the flag, team deathmatch actually much more fun than the single player deathmatches, all in all a good 3D action

WHAT DID YOU DO ID?!

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 3 / 4

Why did you do this id? No wait. . . I understand why, but it's still no excuse to create a game like this. Multiplayer only? OK, OK, I need to settle down here. First of all I need to explain my situation. I have Internet access but not the kind to play this game, I have a lowly 56k modem with a (insert appropriate insult here) connection. This type of connection is definitely not the best connection, even for games that have low data transfer like Diablo or Ultima. However, in my apartment complex we created our own Ethernet LAN with the main hub in my own apartment, perfectly ideal for this type of game. Does this mean that I play this game? Yes, sort of. Does that mean that I like it? I wish I could.

I've rewritten this paragraph four times already. There is no way to express my dislike for this game. Simply put, players will get separated into two groups. Those with the skills to pummel anyone who comes into the arena, and those who get pummeled. Unfortunately, the "Pummelers" are few and far between. Most of the "pummeled" will be amateurs, they'll buy the game, play through a few deaths and erase the game from their hard drive. My LAN mysteriously "empties" out when I offer up a game of Q3. id blew it with this one. Poorly thought out, this game serves only the elite few with the grit, skill, determination, and fast connection to play this game. Lets hope that id gets a brainstorm and comes up with an actual story line for the next game instead of taking the easy way out like they did with this one.

Remember, I'm not saying the multiplayer is bad. The multiplayer is awesome! It's the lack of the single player that makes this game blow. In fact, it's the lack of everything else that makes me want to lose my lunch.

A fantastic Title but two weeks too late

Quake 3 has decended upon us and it is everything one would hope it would be. The graphics on the game are fantastic, especially with a newer video card (v3 or tnt2). Be prepared to tinker with the settings to get the game to be playable with the flashy graphics on mid range pentium 2 systems (266-350mhz). in the single player mode Quake runs smooth with 2-6 enemies in the deathmatch even at high res and using high quality textures. Once you get that seventh player in be prepared for some stuttering. The game play is as solid as ever as are the sound effects. The computer bots may be a little two smart for their own good but they are not so bad you will be quiting while claiming the computer is cheating. Finally, and most importantly, the internet/lan multiplayer is trademark ID. You will be playing this one until Q4 shows up. So why did I only give quake 3 four stars? Two words: Unreal Tournament. UT does everything Q3 does and trumps it. It plays smoother on lower end machines and at this point has slightly (and I mean slightly) better internet code. Where q3 has the standard deathmatch modes, Ut adds capture the flag (which q3 has to an extent in this release), assult, and domination. If you have the money get both. (and don't count on the demos to help you deceide which one to buy, the finals trump the demos in everyway.) The two games are just different enough from one another that you won't feel like you wasted 50 bucks on either one (i dont). But so far UT looks to be the winner by a stride.

Quake III ... better than I expected!

When you go to a movie, you can almost always expect a sequel. Usually, the sequel lacks the same passion as the original. This is not the case with the Quake series of games. Quake, Quake 2 and now Quake 3 have been a perfect trilogy for id Software. Q3 has better graphics, gameplay and overall fun value than any other game out there (save for Unreal Tourney). This game (and it's sure-to-come add ons will be the perfect tool to pass the time wheile we wait for the next huge game.

The Best Multiplayer First Person Shooter existing!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

I've played them all (first person shooters), but this is by far the most realistic, fun, graphically beautiful, and technically superior first person shooter I've played to date. If you're not on a network, the bot play is pretty decent too, but to get the most out of this game you need to play on a network. id Software has created another masterpiece - but make sure you have a decent 3d-accelerator and decent processor before you get this one going up to speed.
