Your a renegade cop infiltrating the worst gang in town.... need I say more? My only dislike was the Boss was a bit on the easy side. But the mini bosses were unstoppable.

One of the top 10 PC games of all-time.

Released in December 2001 for the PC and later for the PS-2, Max Payne captivated gamers with its jawdropping bullet-time feature, dark and engrossing story and over the top action. Even now I still have a blast playing it. The graphic-novel sequences were suprisingly good and well made and to boot the voice acting was not all that bad either. The game has great sound, amazing graphics, immersive plot and awesome weapons (Colt Commando Rox) If you have not had the sheer pleasure of sitting down in front of your computer for several hours playing this tight game, I highly recommend you purchase Max Payne as soon as possible (Max Payne 2 should come out some time in summer 2003)

Playing this game was awesome! I stayed up on a weekened from start to finish without sleep until I beat it.

The script is funny. You'll hear a lot of puns making fun out of movies, etc. Max has one of those cool voices of course. (where do they find these dudes for the voice acting? lol)

The gun fights are great! Bullet time takes everything slow motion so you can pull off diving gun strafes, dodge bullets, etc. The gun fights and graphics are realistic. You can blast people through doors, windows, etc. There are a lot of guns to choose from , plus use duel weapons. I love using two Mac-10s on the bad guys. Nothing is better than seeing 300 bullets hitting people, walls, candy machines, etc.

OK, stop reading, buy game now!

Just picked up this game yesterday. The last game I bought was No One Lives Forever, and I have been waiting a long time for ANY THING good to come out. This game is just plain awesome. I am a big fan of FPS, so I didnt' know how I was going to enjoy the 3rd person view in this game, but the controls are great! Very responsive, and always do what you want them to. Story is great, and the bullet time mode is very, very cool. I didn't know if it was going to be just some cheap gimick, but it is very effective and fun to use. This is the best game I've played since NOLF, lots of fun and very unique. No bugs to report.

I bought Max Payne not too long ago and beat it. I have to say that this is the best packed action shoot em' up game. In Max Payne your an undercover cop and becomes a New York fugitive. I can't tell you why because it would spoil the whole game. I gave this game 5 stars because of it's unique creation. It's full with action and it has just the right amount of difficulty. There's also an option that lets you do a matrix slow motion style shooter for about 7 seconds. This is a very brilliant option in the game because if you see a group of enemies just use this option and shoot them. Secondly, the graphics are amazing. It just spices everything up to a new level. The enivironments are also interactive, for example, you can buy a soda from the soda machine or turn on the sink or shower or even flush a toilet. So, that's also a pretty cool thing they put into this game. Also, the game's AI Scripts are easy at the beginning and increase with each level. The AI is never impossible to beat and I think that is pretty creative. Max Payne also has a dazzling storyline. The only bad part about this game is the voice talent. Max Payne always seems dull and just says things in a voice that's kinda lame but funny. Like if someone dies he's just like..well if you buy the game you'll see what I mean. I gave this game 5 stars because I thought it was very unique and amazing and everything! I also want to thank the creators and everyone else for spending their time to create a game with so much action and brilliance. Well, if you like action packed games with unique features I say buy this game at all costs!

This game is and has raised the bar for all other games in this genre. The graphics are superb but they don't necessarily make a good game. What makes it stand out is the gameplay, the style, the action, the story.

The movements take a bit to get used to at first but if you have ever played tomb raider then it won't take long. The bullet time is cool and very useful, you need to master it to complete some of the rooms without taking massive hits.

I have played this game over and over and never get tired of it. The whole style is refreshing and a welcome change. Don't hesitate get it now or beg, borrow, steal a copy. Just play it.

To the Max: Payne that is!!

Max Payne is gritty New York crime game that has been able to do something few other's can do, and that is to add a well scripted graphic novel to support gameplay. Max Payne is a wonderful shooter. There are some puzzles that have to be solved, yet most are rather simple such as shooting a tire-chalk to make a trailer crash creating an opening for you.

The graphics are wonderful, and they really give the gamer the New York subway feel which kinda creeped me out. The most distinct and amazing feature in Max Payne is Max's special power. Bulletime allows Max to alter time, much as in the movie Matrix. Although Max's enemies bullets slow to a snail's pace his fire normally giving him an edge. Bullettime is limited however, and this is not a bad thing because too much of a good thing is bad and would make this fantastic game too easy to complete.

This game is definitely not for young children as the rating would suggest. There is graphic violence (blood, slow death sequences etc.) and strong language which may be deemed unsuitable for younger gamers.

All-in-all this is a great game that I would recommend to anyone interested in something new in the gaming world. Max Payne is first class all the way, and those interested may want to check out the soon to be released Max Payne comic.

This is a fun, action packed game. If you want shoot-em'-up style action, then buy this game. I was blown away by the sound, graphics and the intense action. You can put parts of the game in slow motion and see bullets wiz by you and fragments from bullets fly all over the place. It's the matrix and a John Woo movie mixed into one! Try this game out. It's definitely worth the money.

Two words that simply make this game worth playing: Bullet-time!

I really enjoyed Max Payne. I like games where I have to think by preference, but this was just too much fun even though the body-count ends up like something from a Terminator movie. Basically, you're just waltzing in, "Playing it Bogart" and pumping the baddies full of bullets, some of which are Full Metal Jacketed. It's nice that they took such things into account and the effects of your gun-blazing are seen with more detail to your environment than the baddies.

The developers were extremely detailed with environment in this beautiful game. It's really eye-candy and I honestly enjoyed the script: it's funny in parts and wonderfully descriptive in its brevity. The writers did a great job setting the mood. Comic and noir lovers will be especially pleased as it is above all artful.

Also, knowing a thing or two about guns and ammo, this game does a fair job keeping with the traits of the various weapons that you'll use in regards to rate of fire, kick and penetration. Stopping power is sometimes a foriegn concept, though because as the game progresses some of the baddies you'll face are just inhumanely robust. That was mildly annoying, but keeps it challenging when Max can use Bullet-time to knock them off with ease. The odds at some points are so incredibly against Max that when you do manage to kill all the baddies in a room, the cinematic effect of watching the bad-guy fall is a nice bonus. It's a tough game in some parts.

It is a little on the short side, but I was ready for the end when I got to it because it's mostly mindless gun-fighting in close quarters. Still, it's fun and there are 4 different skill levels to play, so it does have replayability. There is a big difference in difficulty from the Fugative level to the Hard Boiled. I haven't played Dead on Arrival yet or the New York Minute, but I plan to when I just want to have some fun and get freaky with the shot-dodging.

Highly recommended. The first thing I said, out loud, when I played this and flew through the air in slow mo was, "Ohmygod, this is so wicked cool!" 'Nuff said.

Well worth your Bucks!

Hey fellow-gamers, I have nothing but praise for THIS game... It was a little awkward getting used to the controls, but only because I wasn't used to slow motion shooting. The game itself is a riot to play! I for one, am delighted with it. I'm very impatient so I like action games where I can jump right in and start shooting. Max Payne is a great game for FPS and I'm starting all over again, playing the game. I highly recommend it to gamers who love shooting things up... Have a blast! You'll feel your money was well worth it!
