The greatest adventure game of all time!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

This game was truely the best adventure game I have played and I've played a few. The story is brilliant, the characters are so great that you actually miss them when you stop playing and the graphics and sounds are top-noch as well. The only downside of the game is that it ends. I can recommend this game to anyone.

Just simply da best

I just received my Grim Fandango from Amazon.com. Silly me--I read the review of the person who bought it, had to get the patch from Microsoft, and had a great time with the game thereafter. That person was using Word 2000--there is no patch for Millenium. I have an unopened game that is of no use to me. I downrated the game because the maker, LucasArts, apparently does not endeavor to assist its customers with the means by which to play their software. The constant media changes that result in a more accelerated obsolescence than anyone in the 1950's ever imagined means that nothing fits, everything has to be replaced and the buyer had better beware. A real disappointment!

this game made me laugh so much! It rocks!

First off let me say I love puzzle games but cant do them beacuse i am not smart enough for them i guess but this one was so much fun i had a blast. The dialog was great the anamation was super. What they said to each other during the game was so funny.the puzzles are great. I'm not talking about the kind of puzzle where you are stuck looking at a board and trying to solve it but you are walking around talking to people to try to solve it. And if you get stuck just chat with others not about the puzzle and you get a great laugh (the strip search was the best) and the cat races? well lets just say i recomend this for a good laugh! It rocks!

This is a game that just keeps on giving. The plot is as old as time and is played with much humor. The music is great and is an additional bonus while playing the game (I as a matter of fact purchased the music CD). The characters are well rounded with each character having his/her very own particular personality. If you like fun while playing a game then this game is for you!!!

My first and still favorite of the Lucasarts adventures

Grim Fandango was the first of the Lucasarts adventures that I had tried when I played it in the summer of 2000. I had heard they all were very good and because Grim Fandango was the only one I could find in a physical store, I thought I would give it a go. I had moderate expectations for the game because I was still somewhat new to adventure games when I tried it. I soon found that I had definitely underestimated this game!

This game is a ton of fun. The story starts out strangely enough; you are Manny Calavera, a "person" who works in the Underworld for the agency down there that brings people over who have died and tries to sell them a travel package to the afterlife. While Manny is trying investigate why a great client was shifted from his responsibility to a rival's, he discovers the LSA, the Lost Souls Alliance, an underground alliance group trying to break through the money hungry agency that Manny works for. Manny ends up joining, getting himself into more than he bargained for. I'll stop there as to not give away too much of the fantastic story of this game. But the real reason I loved this game is that it isn't like any other adventure I had played before. I had played Myst, Riven, Zork Nemesis and Zork Grand Inquisitor before this, but none of them had such a great plot, such a great interface, and only Zork Grand Inquisitor had as much humor. Thats what makes this game special. The web of story, humor (intelligent and immature alike), puzzles that don't get you frustrated (like Myst), a great interface and great graphics (for the time, but anti-aliasing makes it still look amazing compared to todays games) combines to make a great game that is the second adventure I've seen for the PC that IGN gave over a 9. (Grim Fandango got a 9.4 and The Longest Journey got a 9.3).

If you love or even just sort of like adventure games, get this game now! If you've been curious about adventures, this is the game to start with! Overall this game is a AAA game and is tied for my favorite adventure game of all time (with The Longest Journey).

I have played this game again and gain and again. it has an wit and humor about ti that makes you laugh along with wonderful charecters and a diverse and suprising story line. puzzles are moderate in hardness and the whole thing is like a movie. I felt my self saying aww in dissapointment when it was over. (i wanted to keep playing!) I LOVE this game.

I found this to be a VERY interesting and fun game to play. Very original plot and great characters. Excellent graphics too! If you buy it you will have endless hours of fun and you'll wish it would never end. Are they going to make a Grim Fandango II? Let's wish!

One of the most original game of all time

You are Manny Calavera, a sales agent in the land of the dead. Your job is to get new arrivals to the land of the dead to final resting place, the ninth underworld, so you can work off your dept and you too can join the four-year journey to the final resting place. But all is not sweet in the land of the dead. There is an evil man afoot and is cheating souls out of their safe journey to the ninth underworld.

Simply put, one of the best games of all time. Everything about this game is brilliant. The lush graphics, the voice acting, the original plot, the memorable characters, and the sweet sounding background music.

Even though the game was made in the 90's, the graphics still compete with the graphics of today's games. The world that Manny lives is full of variety and Aztec inspired environments. The background images are crystal clear and the characters themselves are spot on. The cut scenes are even up to par with fast animation and flawless actions.

One of the best things in this game is the voice acting. The various actors that play the characters bring them to life. Manny's voice is full of expression so the player can tell exactly how he is feeling at the time, either disappointed, angry, or humored. To add to the greatness of the acting, Manny's voice is touched with a slight hint of Spanish dialect, and phrases that keep him alive. All other characters' voices are great. To the French of Sal, to the goofiness of Glotis, the voice acting brings this game to life.

The voice acting is one of the best features of this game. The only feature that surpasses it is the original story line. The plot is so fresh and original. It has a keen sense of humor, just the right amount of twists and turns, and a dramatic, satisfying end. When a gamer finishes the game, they can feel a sense of pride and accomplishment but also feel sad for what Manny had gone through. It was one of the best plots of any genre of all time.

The final great feature in this game is the music. It is full of swinging jazz, bebop, and instrumental solos. The original score sets the tone for the entire game and fits the mood perfectly. The lay back muted trombone solo seemed like just the right thing for the dark harbor of Rupecava.

Overall, a brilliant game that is with out a doubt worth owning. The only thing a gamer might have to do is download a free patch from Lucas Arts. Because the game was made in the 90's, parts of it don't work with high-speed computers.

Best Game Ever

This is quite possibly the best game of all time. The environments are breathtaking, the story line is intricate and entertaining, and the characters are deep and well developed. BUY THIS GAME! It will be the best [money] you spend in your life, you will not regret it!
