The grpahics and story are OK. But, the puzzles are
so stupid, I regret purchasing this game. Luckily,
it only cost 10 bucks. I will finsh this game by
following the game guides found online (without wasting
my time trying to figure them out) just so I can see what
happens in the story. For example, at one point, you have
to get some bones and throw them into a tar pit so that
these flaming rodents will jump in after them. I figured
this out on my own. However, what I didn't figure out was that
I had to do this over and over again until all the rodents were
destroyed (a total of 4 times). I had to read the game guide to
find out I didn't do it enough times. There are even worse
examples of mindless stupidity, but harder to explain here.
I was very disappointed after reading the other reviews
here and anticipating some fun puzzles that are integrated
into the story. Bottom line- in my opinion, not worth the
10 bucks.

the game's okay, although i don't think making the charactersin 3d was a very good idea, plus at some points game gets outrightboring, and all the main characters smoke... although the game will crash sometimes, and it might get stuck, overall, the game is pretty much okay if you don't count crashes and how the characters act and look... I picked this up in a bargain bin because I had heard great things about Grim Fandango, now an admittedly older title. I had also played a demo of one of the Monkey Island games and found it hilarious. I greedily slapped down my ten bucks and looked forward to some fun.
The game is fun to listen to and watch. Filled with yucks aplenty, Grim Fandango is like participating directly in a wacky animated film. For this alone, Fandango earns high praise. As with the Monkey Island games, the voice acting and humor is top notch.
Sadly, gameplay suffers. If you read through enough reviews here at Amazon, you'll find that people like Fandango simply for its humor and style; most customers admit that they needed walkthroughts to get past the game's frustrating puzzles. I'm a puzzle fan, and I like a challenge, but there were simply too many moments in Fandango where the puzzles felt arbitrary. Logic rarely led to a solution; only trial and error did! For me, this weighed heavily--and I mean heavily--against the game. Humor and style, huge plusses no doubt, should still be secondary to gameplay (or at least equal). With Fandango, gameplay seems to be a less important means towards creative and hilarious ends. You'll need to decide if this is okay with you. For me, it wasn't.

I just received my Grim Fandango from Amazon.com. Silly me--I read the review of the person who bought it, had to get the patch from Microsoft, and had a great time with the game thereafter. That person was using Word 2000--there is no patch for Millenium. I have an unopened game that is of no use to me. I downrated the game because the maker, LucasArts, apparently does not endeavor to assist its customers with the means by which to play their software. The constant media changes that result in a more accelerated obsolescence than anyone in the 1950's ever imagined means that nothing fits, everything has to be replaced and the buyer had better beware. A real disappointment!
Sorry, I just don't get it

Yes, it looks great, but MY GOD, what a convoluted and complicated storyline! I quit after I heard the ridiculously-long list of things I had to do to get on the boat! As soon as I ran away, I completely forgot what I was supposed to be doing, and then realized...I DIDN'T CARE.
I didn't think Monkey Island was that great either, though, so take that into consideration. And ANYONE who says they can do these type of games in one day or without a walkthrough IS LYING.

This game was recommended for me after my satisfaction with "The Curse of Monkey Island." As like the sequal, "Escape From Monkey Island," it included a lot of "Keyboard Punching" with arrows and letters. My kids, ages 6 and 12, did not find this convient to play, even with a joystick, only because it was not as easy as others... not even for me.... Mom.

This game is really irritating without a cheat sheet.
I almost gave up until I found the hints online. I am now about half way through and I am enjoying the unique design of the game much more. At [$$$] this is worth it just for the visual appeal and cultural variety. I have to chase my six year old away while I'm playing though because, as the rating points out, this is NOT a kids game. (We both like Spy Fox a lot). To sum it up: don't buy this for the puzzles, get the hints and enjoy the adventure!
Only buy if you're a huge PC adventure game fan

I guess PC adventure games just aren't my thing. I tried to like Grim Fandango, I really did. After all the praise it got I assumed it would be awesome. But instead I found it rather boring and filled with bugs. Tedious puzzles, terrible graphics, and countless lock-ups forced me to resort to speeding through the game using a walkthrough just so I could see how the story ended. But hey, if it weren't for the unique and interesting story and characters I wouldn't have bothered beating it at all. And for that I give it 3 stars.

I was having a great time with this title, but it got stuck more then once. The game would not proceed at certain points in the adventure and it frustrated me to the point of giving up.
