Definately the best adventure game ever made

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 4

Without a single doubt in my mind, this is the best adventure game ever made. It has all the aspects of a terrific game, magnified to the best potential. Terror, Suspense, Comedy(oh, the comedy), Romance, and a setting that can only be described as beatiful. It made me want to watch Casablanca over and over again. I love the art, the music, and the voices (they couldn't have picked better voices for all the characters, especially Manny).

p.s. If you haven't played the game yet, just wait 'till you get to Rubacava :)

This games is great. If you are a fan of the adventure gaming genre then this is the game for you. Its story line is great and it is a funny and strange game. The graffics in this game are great and the reflect the Mexican "Day of the Dead" very interestingly. For such a low price I would deffinatly buy this game is I was you.

Great game, poor controls

Grim Fandago is a magnificent game, with some problems. As Manny Calavera, the main, dead, character your job is to find a female character that will be your ticket out of the purgatorial world you inhabit during the game. The dialog and characters were funny and interesting, but the interface was uncomfortable to use. Unlike most adventure games that use the mouse for moving around, Grim Fandago uses the arrow keys on the keyboard. This is great, if you don't have a mouse, but who doesn't? Do you like a really difficult and challenging game? Then buy this one. I found it impossible without the walkthrough (available on-line). Has anyone gotten through the whole game without it? If so, you are a better gamer than I. Also somewhat irritating were the long walks from one area to another, without the ability to jump quickly. Lastly, I found a bug in the game that stopped me in my tracks (even having followed the walkthrough explicitly) on the level with the cat-track; After you have found your female co-worker pushing up daisies (literally) your new attorney does not appear in the members-only area of the cat track. Is there a patch for this? I lost interest at that point. Don't let this stop you, though, from buying the game. It was a great story and a lot of fun, throughout most of the adventure. Great acting, music and graphics made this well worth the price.

Surprisingly clever, fun, and intriguing

Despite the game's setting in Mexico's pagan land of the dead, Grim Fandango bears little resemblance to anything remotely ideological regarding life and death. It was simply a fascinating and engaging tale of intruigue, romance, and crime that is so typical of the film noir genre (e.g. Casablanca). The game could have just as easily taken place in the "land of the living;" its setting was really just a plot device and a reason to get really creative with character design.

The characters were exaggerated, diverse, and superbly acted. The dialogue was clever, inventive, and often caused a chuckle. The plot was full of twists and turns that you kept you on your feet. The graphic settings were colorful, imaginative, varied, and engrossing. The music was a top quality mix of blues, jazz, mariachi, salsa, and classical.

The puzzles were seamlessly woven into the storyline, and all made sense once you figured them out. I admit, I found many of them very challenging and often used the walkthroughs and UHS hints system to solve them. A word of caution: if you breeze through the puzzles too quickly without experimenting with the dialogue and inventory, you'll miss much of the games humor. Even if you "cheat" to get the answers to the puzzles, don't use them them too quickly or you really "cheat" yourself out of a good game--your character, Manny Calavera, has a fantastic sense of wit when you make him do "the unexpected", and you'll miss that if you jump straight to the solution.

Despite a few CPU speed problems that were easily fixed with cpukiller.com's utility and the game patch at grimfandango.net, this old game ran flawlessly on my Windows XP.

For pure mental stimulation, enjoyment and FUN, I give this game 5 stars.

Grim Fandango

Grim Fandango jewel case edition is definitely worth your money. The game immediately swallows the player whole with an intriguing story line; colorful, meticulously-designed artwork and characters; superb voice acting; and mood-setting music. You play Manuel Calavera, and there's more beneath the supposed "legitimate" travel agency that you work for in the Land of the Dead that what meets the eye. This travel agency, the Department of the Dead, issues ways of travel for souls to go to the Ninth Heaven. You need a promotion, but it seems that your boss keeps giving your colleague all the premium customers, leaving you with the 2nd rate ones. You must find out what exactly is going on before it's too late...

The only bad thing about this game is that it ended too soon! I could not get enough of all the awesome elements of Grim Fandango. It is definitely not one of those games with a thin storyline; the plot in Grim Fandango is deep and enthralling, and the humor definitely spices up the setting. Buy it!

It's all true

All the good things you've heard about this game are completely true. The art direction, music, voice acting, and general atmosphere come together perfectly to create an incredibly origninal and witty game, and even now, something like four years after it was originally released, it's still tremendous fun to play. If you like adventure games, comedy, jazz music, or if you own a computer, you will not regret paying ten bucks for what is still one of the best adventure games you can get.

What a great game! Terrific narrative, thoughtful and hilarious dialogue, intriguing characters and locations. I played Year 4 very slowly since I didn't want it to end. Let me add my voice to the chorus: Bravo!

This game is so amazing. I've never seen anything quite like it. Every character in the game has their own distinctive attitude and way that you can attach to. Wait... did that make sense? Anyway, go get this game cause it's just amazing.

The plot of the game may seem odd, but it grows on you. The puzzles can be annoying at times, but most Role-playing games are that way. It has an excellent storyline, great graphics, and great dialogue. Its a ten in my book.

A classic adventure game

Grim Fandango is, hands down, the best adventure game ever, after the Monkey Island Series. All of the characters have their own unique personality and wit that will make you laugh. The keyboard is a little frustrating at times, but it is the only bad thing. The puzzles are dumbfounding at times, and some have ridiculous solutions, but it's nothing you can't look up on the internet. If you're looking for a very, VERY good adventure game, buy Grim Fandango.
