Great First timer

I have played alot of D&D back when dirt was young. Since then I grew up, had kids of my own, and watch them play D&D games that had whole different rules then when I played.
I was truely unimpressed with many of the computer games to date, many were too difficult to understand how to make a correct character or were first person shooters. This game takes care of that yes it is somewhat mindless going from monster to monster but where this game exceeds is the multiplayer.
I enjoyed the scenery and the point of view, the large map and the zoom on both. The game itself has some merit but the story line is thin.
I am sick of first person shooters, I hope this game will be enjoyable to you as it was for me.

Hack n' slash, but very pretty hack n' slash.

Well, I bought this game thinking that it would have the immersive gameplay characteristics of Baldur's Gate combined with significantly updated 3D terrain effects and graphics. I was half-right in the fact that the graphics are very nicely done, but the gameplay is just, well, missing.

The games NPC's made my ears hurt as I listened to the mostly unimportant dialogue they utter. Add to that the fact that most of the goodies you pick up will not be usable at the time you find them since there are strict attribute requirements that must be met.

Example: After a brawl you get a suit of armor and sword that both require a minimum strength of 22, your brawniest party member is at 16. By the time he gets to strength 22 he is carrying around an entire backpack (and pack mule) of items with minimum strength requirements of 27-30.

The spells are pretty to look at, yet somewhat underpowered even at high levels. I have a bow that doles out 68 damage at a pop, but my best spell generates around 30 damage. Item placement and spell strength just seem a little unbalanced.

Instead of Baldur's Gate with imporved graphics, Gas Powered Games has delivered Myth on steroids. What I bought is a nice piece of graphics technology - a beautiful graphics engine with little else wrapped around it.

I'm always amazed at how liberally people throw around "five-star" reviews for not only software, but music CDs too. I gave this product two stars because it's fun factor is less than average FOR ME. Other people new to PC based RPGs may find it more engrossing than I did. Dungeon Seige is an example of software that's, "all dressed up and no place to go", except into my recycle bin.

Dumb fun for hours.

I was greaty entertained by DS for it's simple fun in great graphics. Some of the sights in the game are a treat to see, such as standing on top a tower looking out in to a lush forest complete with tree, shrubs and flowers. Unlike Diablo2 the world feels large and lively that only 3D graphics could produce.
This is all tied with some nice music, some of it interesting to hear but it is the usual epic fantasy themes.

I could forgive the lack of a story. Let's be real, we are going to end up killing monsters whatever the reason is. I am not really interested in talking to NPCs for clever dialog or spending time reading volumes on a world that doesn't really exist. All I need to know is A)Where are the monsters and B)how to kill the monsters. DS let's you do just that.
Something also has to be said for the lack of a story, you are free to make up your own. There is no rule that game developers had to fill your imagination for you.

My one real complaint is the skill system. If I am going to kill a lot of things for hours, I want some really cool skills. I love how it works, just that there is so little to work with. The 4 skill catagories could further broken up in to more diverse skill trees and still be as easy to use.

All that said, this is an entertaining game for the uninspired. Forget keeping track of to-hit modifiers, just click away to your heart's content.

It's just fun...

I'm very new at role playing games and played Diablo II and Balders Gate. This game is great fun with incredable graphics. I understand the complaint about thin to no story, but find that's ok because I'm filling in the rest with my imagination. I had no trouble understanding the game and enjoy the ease at which I can change weapons or magic during battle. The larger character view is helpful to me to keep track of my people and enjoy the realistic movements.

I also enjoy the ease of going from one scene into another seamslessly without the need of disk access. The addition of a pack mule is very nice to carry treasures for trade or items you will need soon but your character is not ready for. I feel this was made for new players to the role playing world and for pro's who just want to enjoy the graphics without have to over think many puzzling or complicated games. I recommend first time buyers of role playing games to start with this one. A great introduction to weapons, magic and creatures without getting overwhelmed.

Great game, but doesn't run on every computer

...

When it comes to the game it is pretty much the same as Diablo, but better. There are more weapons, awesome cloths, shields, boots, glooves, caps and helmets, rings and amulets. If you like Diablo, this game is heaven. If you don't like Diablo, you will still enjoy Dungeon Siege , as my cousin did ,and even when there isn't a plot, the chapters are so good, you don't want them to end. The way you gain experience is much better than Diablo and the fact you can choose the way your hero looks is also pretty satisfying. You will not get tired of playing the single player game, and when you do ( and get to be a wizard, knight, and archer), you will spend hours on the net playing.

If I had the opportunity to choose between Dungeon Siege, and any other game I would stick with Dungeon Siege. ( unless your choosing among Neverwinter Nights, and Morrowind :Elder Scrolls), which I still haven't had the opportunity to completely evaluate them.

Now I'm hooked too!

A Fun Fighting-Based RPG

This game provides hours of gameplay in which you battle everything from little dog-like creatures to skeletons to dragons. It starts you off as a farmer and depending on what weapons you use (bows, swords, or spells), you increase in that skill. You can combine the skills even to be, say, a healing mage who fights with a bow. Along the way you pick up companions who work in the same way, and you also recieve quests you can complete. Add this to a rich story full of dialogue and you get a great game. The only problem I have encountered is that you can't carry very much stuff, so you have to selectively choose what you want to bring with you. You can, however, have a donkey as a companion to carry your stuff. Also you can pause the game whenever you like, making the use of strategy quite possible and almost unnavoidable.

Sorry, But It Just Doesn't Cut It

I bought this in a moment of weakness when there were no new first person D&D type games out there. I had been burned by other 3rd person games, but decided to see what someone else besides the Baldur's Gate people could do with things.

The game was very linear and to me, very annoying to play. I had problems with the party AI and did not like that I could not veer off the path to any extent. I got maybe halfway through it and quit. Not my cup of tea.

Dungeon siege is great at first but then...

When i first started playing the game i was amazed the graphics were unbeleavable, they were detailed and were clear. As i went through the game iw as also amazed by the sound it was clear and it was amazing. After i made it 1/4 of the way through the game though i was dissapointed for one reason... the story. The plot in this game is very thin you have to find out why the things attacked and what is behind the attack, thats about it there aren't really any plot twists or anything just find out why this is happening. Another reason why it was a little dissapointing is that after a while the click and hack style of fighting gets a little old because there really isnt much to it.
The only way i really enjoy playing this game anymore is when im playing online with my friends otehr then that the game gets incredibly boring. I would suggest this game to epople who dont really look for storylines in a game or those who have someone to play with online otherwise stay away from this game

Wonderful but too short!

Dungeon Seige felt wonderfully fresh and fun from teh moment I started it. There was no strugle to get started, no frustration. The difficulty of the game scaled smoothly as you moved forward so you hardly noticed it. Instead it felt natural and easy. I am not a fan of games that equate frustration with fun and Dungeon Seige never once frustrated me.

Strangely my only two complaints of the game were that a few of the dungeons themselves went on a TAD too long and the game itself didn't go on long enough! When it ended I honestly felt as if I should have only been half way through the game. Fortunately with the release of the editor there should be more adventures available for download.
