Of all the games I've played on Xbox 360 so far, this one is the most realistic, the most richly designed. Every square foot of virtual territory in the worlds within Bioshock have been intricately and lavishly designed in great painstaking detail. This creates a very realistic world.
And it's a spooky world. Dark, and twisted. A weird mixture of high tech and really old fashioned. And, undeniably brutal. I wasn't prepared for the level of brutality in this game. People get realistically skewered by a drilling device. You have to bludgeon your enemies to death with a pipe wrench, and then "make sure they're good and dead" or they will come back and hunt you down. You also have to shoot up IV drugs which is kinda gross to me. So, be prepared for ultra violence. If I had children I definitely would not want them playing this game.
Once I got used to the violence, like a good Tarrantino movie, this game started to be a lot of fun. The fun is like a horror movie kind of fun though. It is so realistic and scary, that your heart rate really does get up. They do a good job of making the game play and the scenes scary. It is actually pretty hard to die, but it is really scary when you get hit or shot. So the makers of the game gave your character a tolerance for punishment, which is actually pretty cool because it prolongs all the misfortune you can have, which is scary and fun.
If you're into horror movies you'll definitely like this one. If you're a little squeamish you might want to pass.

This games graphics are outta this world, but unfortunately so is the game play. While the environment is stimulating to watch, the objective is difficult to follow. Great first person for the more advanced gamer. Not for the weak stomach or beginners.

This game is fantastic. I personally don't really care for FPS's, but the fabulous plot, snarky background, and beautiful graphics made me give this one a shot. Beware, sometimes it is a little creepy, so be sure to play with the lights on.

Halo killer? This "shooter" provokes some thought.

I find the comparisons to Halo to be tiresome and misleading. This game offers a lot more story, and diverse game play than the Halo series.
This game has tons going for it, and I urge you to give it a try. That being said, if all you want is a run and gun shooter, this isn't the game for you.
What does it have going for it?
Great story telling, fun art and music design, a good mix of action, decision making, and mini-games to break up the levels.

True to the hype, this game was extremely similar to the excellent System Shock 2. Every element of the game was a bit dumbed down in this incarnation, however. Bioshock is still a really nice game, and introduces one new element, which is the well known question of morality involved in harvesting or saving Little Sisters. Unfortunately the choice that you have to make is the same each time and it's not remotely nuanced. Just as Bioshock includes a long list of game elements from SS2 but doesn't quite live up to the original, the morality game is highly touted but not very well developed. Go search for a video review site called Zero Punctuation and look up the Bioshock review for a very convincing case agreeing with my assessment.
