I couldn't stop playing!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

I had a hard time getting into this game when I first started to play. I'm not a huge fan of shooters, and I often feel like they all feel the same. Yet, I'm glad I didn't give up on Bioshock -- it is truly a unique and amazing game!

You'll notice from the start that the story is amazing. I can't emphasize this enough. The story is told through the game without the excessive use of cutscenes that interrupt the gameplay.

The gameplay and presentation is equally amazing. This is one of the few games where I wanted to explore every single area of the map. Though the game literally provides the player an arrow to follow toward the current objective, it doesn't stop the player for taking the time to explore every little corner and object in the level.

The moral decision-making aspect of the game is also quite unique. It reminds me of the feeling that I had playing Shadow of the Colossus. I found myself really thinking of my actions and questioning what I was doing in the environment.

I agree with the sentiment of most other Bioshock reviewers -- that this game is truly revolutionary. I don't know of any other shooter that has captivated me with its story and presentation. The puzzles in the game are never too difficult, yet the game provides enough challenges throughout the game to keep the player interested and engaged.

Possibly the best game of the decade?

I usually like to start with what I didn't like about a game.

That is a bit tougher with this one.

So, let me back up. Shorter=better, so i will try to be concise. But bear with me...

The essence of all the greatest games is combining elements of different genres of games into one seamless package. Bioshock embodies this. Fan of RPG's? You will like it. Fan of FPS? You will like it. Fan of puzzle games? You will like it.

It has one of the biggest requirements for a game, in my book, namely: controls so intuitive and simple you forget you are you, and not the character in the game.

It has great graphics. Look at the water, and tell me you aren't impressed; I dare you.

It has a great storyline: possibly the toughest of the marks. There are a lot of great weapons in a lot of smooth games, but coming up with a unique storyline after 30-40 years of gaming is pretty tough!

It bears replay: using or concentrating on different plasmids or weapons, or beyond that combinations of plasmids and weapons, along with plot options makes this a game you won't spend just 10 hours on.

Okay. There must be a negative right?

Right. Kind of. No multiplayer. That kinda sucks. But, in all fairness, this game is built around creating the most immersive, realistic, engrossing single player experience possible, and frankly, I am not sure exactly how a multi-player mode would have actually come off. I don't think a vs. mode would be better than that offered by HALO: 3 or CoD4, to be sure. So, I think the correct decision was made, to concentrate on the single player mode.

All in all, this game is about as close to perfect as they come. I would consider myself a huge HALO fanboy (gotta be honest...) but this eclipsed all the other AWESOME 360 releases this year. Well, maybe CoD4 would have something to say about that... But it is close!

Buy this game, you will NOT regret it. I promise....

You've heard the hype, now hear the unbiased truth

I think there is enough commentary on here to choke a horse, so I'll sum up my comments:

1. Bioshock is short.
2. Multiplayer (ha, ha, lol)
3. Graphics? err, reminds me of Doom 3.
4. Too Too Easy, I beat it without having to use both hands. (Big Daddy, Fontaine = easy)

In conclusion this is a game marketed to the young croud of unskilled gamers, hardcore gamers will not find this game to be compelling. I would recommend this game for ages 10 to 17.

Save the dough and rent first, or buy mine from me, I'll sell it for $60.00 to the first unsuspecting rube.

If you are a casual gamer you might like this title. Don't believe the hype.

A MUST HAVE!!!

This game Got a 9.7 rating on IGN I believe that is the highest rated game on the Xbox 360 so far I could be wrong. It deserves the rating. Bioshock is one of the few games that you must play yourself, since reading and talking about it doesn't really do the game any justice. Here you get a good example of what the video game format can do, to give you a great story that you get to play a role in.

Bioshock starts off in 1960 over the mid Alantic Ocean, your the sole survivor of a plane crash and the only place to go is in a light house. Its here you'll find the underwater world of Rapture. Rapture is the creation of Andrew Ryan. A place where the best minds in the world could go to get away from the strong hold of religion, corporations, and goverment. Its not long untill you realize things didn't go as planned.

It seemed with the creation of DNA altering ADAM, the people of Rapture have turned on each other. Factions fight for survival and its up to you to either fight against them or become their savior. Through radio transmittings you'll get the story and it unfolds before you.

ADAM, is the susbiance that the people all want, its the new drug. Its in that, that will allow you to increase in power and stats. With ADAM you'll be able to increase the amount of Plasmids you have. Plasmids are the powers you get, shoot lighting out of your finger tips, Telekinsise, or create a fire with a snap of your fingers are some of the expamles. If thats too much for you, then you can always go with a gun....this is a first person shooter first and then an adventure game secondly.

ADAM is abtained in one form and that's getting to a Little Sister. Little Sisters are little girls with pale skin and glowing eyes that rome around the city getting ADAM from corpses. Its truly frightening the first time you see one, but not has frightning by their protectors...the Big Daddiess. The Daddys are their body guard, they hulk around in diving suites and have a small arsonal to kill anyone that harms the Little Sister or himself. Its up to you to get passed the Big Daddies and either save the little sister or "harvest" them. The choice is yours.

There's much more going on in the game then what I wrote, the game needs to be played rather then talked about. Bioshock gives you the freedom to play it your way and make you apart of the story, and it does this in a great way. The graphics along with the killer gameplay make this a must play for any 360 owner. The is single player only and can take you anywhere from 10-25 hours to play, depending on how fast you play it....but trust me its hard to not to stop and take a look at the world of Rapture.

A great game that is an early contender for Game of The Year.

Good game

I give this game a 4.5 because it has no online play which would of been nice. The Single player is awesome tho. It has a few good guns like the Tommy Gun and the rocket launcher. You can also use big daddy's to kill other enemies also with your powers. The best thing to do in the game is just to save all of the little sisters and you will be rewarded more in the long run.

SO not worth the wait.

I'm a big fan of shooters, I bought the original Doom over 15 years ago and was hooked. I even gave up my beloved Mac for a PC, and have spent thousands on every new shooter that came out. I played System Shock 2 years ago, loved the story line, the gameplay, hacking computers and upgrading my "specs", tricking out my gear, searching containers, etc. So when I heard the sequel was due out in 2007, Bioshock, I couldn't wait to play it. $50.00 +, but, OK..most of the new game software out there runs about that, and if the game's good, you can spend years playing it. So, I load it up, and....nothing. Loads fine, opening sequence..fine. Then nothing but a black screen. Three tries, then nothing. Go to the Bioshock Website, all reviews are terrific (of course). Let's check the open Web. The mother lode. Hundreds of complaints, slow frame rates, stuttering audio, game crashes, load number restrictions, on and on. Now I'm sweating (once you break that seal, baby, you own it). So, I have another PC, also only about 3 years old, loaded it up and it did play just long enough to get me interested in the story line, all completely in slow motion, but you're so hungry for gameplay you'll shoot anything, even if it's like throwing a watermelon across a room. I got all the way to the 4th level, and it just wound down and stopped. Guess it just ran out of Steam. Speaking of Steam, sound familiar? What a waste of money. If you don't have dual processors, a gaming rig that's less than a year old (I had NVidia video card on one and ATI Radeon 9600 on the other), and endless patience for throwing your money down the toilet, stay away from this game.

people say HALO is overrated.....

This game is awful. Sure, the graphics are amazing,
but they are also great in gears and halo. This game
got such a hype, AND FOR WHAT??????? The story line
at first is great, but repetitive later. I heard
this game was first announced 3 years ago.....what
a waste of time. Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony; PLEASE
DROP THE ANNOYING ANIME/RPG ****!!!!!! BRING BACK
FPS AND THE SUPERIOR HACK-N-SLASH.

This game isn't fun--it is gruesome & demented. It made me sick to my stomach. I bought it based on all the great reviews and can't figure out why people would like this game?

Draconian DRM

Draconian copy protection scheme through Securom totally ruined the experience for me. It was over a month between purchase and being able to play the game. When I was able to play I was hounded by severe technical glitches.

Both problems were eventually resolved through fan suggestions. Attempts to rectify the issues by contacting the company support lines failed to generate any results.

From what I have seen of the game it looks to be both ambitious and atmospheric but my enthusiasm is long gone. This will be the last 2K title I will ever purchase.
