Best 360 Game So Far!!!!!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

I could go on about how great this is but 31 people below have already said everything that needs to be said. This game makes me glad I decided to get a 360 instead of the PS3. There are not many games so immersive that make you feel like you are really there.

Wow... I wasn't expecting this. This has got to be one of the best FPS I have ever seen. Period. Def. game of the year so far.

Atmospheric shooter with fun AI

The game has a fun and spooky single player campaign that I found much more satisfying than Halo3. You have little girls harvesting dead bodies for Adam. You have a metropolis filled with crazed junkies and splicers.

The game itself is beautifully atmospheric and I like how enemies react to things. Set an enemy on fire and they run jump into water, hurt them and they run towards a health station. Hack a health station so it shocks them and they curse the blasted machine and scream in pain. It was fun to follow people around and listen to them interact.

The AI and atmosphere of the game are what make this game "work". Also "Hacking" items was a fun mini-game in itself. Half of the fun in this game is the sense of unknown, but there is some appeal to playing through multiple times to play with different skills and to interact differently with the little sisters. Also I have been enjoying taking pictures of enemies to do research. Finding and taking the perfect photo of an enemy is a challenge in and of itself.

Now let me talk about the bad things. The gun controls are not as tight as other shooters I have played, that is complicated by the amount of lag or jitter the game gets after playing a while on the Xbox360.

The water is done beautifully, but human are blocky and poorly animated making things feel a bit off. I often have trouble distinguishing enemy types because of the textures and polygon counts not being up to the standards of other modern shooters.

The intro scene has human animation that was cringe worthy, A pre-rendered video snippet would have been much better and not ruined the introduction for me.

Lastly a WARNING for 360 owners : the game has a caching issue that causes lag every few seconds after playing a while. You can fix this by clearing the cache when you start the game. Do this by holding the shoulder buttons as you load the game disk. By the time the game logo comes up the cache will be cleared but you need to do this every few days of gameplay. Hopefully they will patch this at some point.

Yet despite the problems I feel the game is deeply satisfying and well worth the price. Creative use of plasmids or using robots and big daddies on enemies is just the most fun I have had in a long time. This is a "thinking-mans" shooter. You need to think and watch the world around you rather than just shoot everything. This game will have a longer shelf life than halo3 and other straight forward shooters.

Not Your Typical FPS

BioShock is more than your typical "run and gun" FPS. The developers have given your character the ability to use "plasmids", which are genetic enhancements in your off hand, which adds a new level of strategy and excitement to the game. They have also created a neat little "mini-game" that allows you to hack turrets, safes, machines, cameras...you name it.

The game actually plays out like a movie. It has a very interesting...and sometimes disturbing...storyline that holds your attention and really gets you involved in the game. The level of detail in the environment is absolutely stunning and you will find yourself wanting to fully explore every area. I also enjoyed the feel of the circa 1950's timeframe has a really nice feel to it as well.

BioShock is a refreshing and much needed change from the traditional FPS style games. It appeals to me as an FPS, but also as more of a mystery/action game. It is also one of the most visually stunning games to date on the XBOX 360. As far as single player campaigns go, BioShock has Halo 3 beat by a mile. Notice that this game has a "Mature" Rating and deservedly so. This one is not for kids. Highly recommended. One of the best games I've ever played.

Amazing!!!

This game is one of the best games (FPS) until now!, I must say that the environmental sound is wonderful, I recommend play this game with a Home Theater sound system to appreciate all its magnificent sound. You feel the water sound in the walls of Rapture, the voices of the "people" of Rapture are fun, the Big Daddies steps, etc.

Graphically is beautiful, the water effects are impressive. The Plasmid system is easy to use (including the weapon system), the playability is excellent. The only thing that mind me is the main character. You never hear his voice, he don't say anything in the game!

Difficult to explain

I've found it near impossible to acurately explain this game to my gaming friends who have not yet played it. It's a FPS, yeah, but after that it gets more difficult. You get upgrades that remind me of Metroid. It's creepy. It's scary. It's disturbing. My wife asked me "Why do I think of Disney's Boardwalk when I see this game?". Think "Coney Island" or "Ringling Bros.". The AI is wickedly smart and will kill you. The graphics are incredible. There is a complete style about the game that is unique and believable and constant. There is no multiplayer and for once, I'm not sure I miss it.

The Best Game by Far

Bioshock is the best game for the Xbox 360 by far. I'm getting really tired of people who think Halo is better. Unlike Halo, Bioshock doesn't rely on its online gaming to hook gamers in. Don't take it the wrong way Halo lovers, but the story mode for Halo is terrible and you know it. The only reason people play it (including me) is because of its online capabilities, nothing more. Bioshock has better graphics, better gameplay, and is easily going to win game of the year. I've played almost every FPS and by far Bioshock is my favorite.

Game + Story = WIN

If you like playing games that also tell a great story then this title is for you! I have completed the game and the story that unfolds is breathtaking. Nice plot twists keep your interest and leave you guessing what comes next. The game play itself is varied and each person will probably play a bit differently based on their own style. I never felt bogged down or bored with this game. That is unusual for me.

If you buy one game...this is it!

Arguably, the best FPS to date

I wasn't expecting much when I bought this title. I decided to pick it up due to it's buzz from E3 and the fact that I love FPS games. WOW! I was blown away! The only way I can get you to realize how great this game is, is to compare it to some you may have played. Imagine taking Doom 3 and combining it with the RPG elements of Oblivion, adding original elements and a scary art deco atmosphere, and that's Bioshock.

Where to start? To begin with, this game is, simply put, fun and addictive. I really couldn't put it down once I started playing, and the last game that had that same affect on me was Gears of War. Many other reviews have discussed the story, so I'm going to focus on what made me want to keep playing this game long into the night. The gameplay is addictive, because it pulls you in, this is a very cinematic and engaging experience, with experience being key. One of the most engaging features of the game, is it's most controversial. During the game, you most make a moral choice to save or kill children known as "little sisters". If you save them, you are rewarded for your efforts, but it will slowly improve your powers. If you choose to harvest their genetic material, known as "Adam", to vastly improve your powers, they don't survive the process and you are labled no better than the men you are trying to battle in the game. Either way, your choices shape the game's ending, which adds to it's re-playability. Another inovative feature I loved, was the ability to hack your environment. For example, many areas are guarded by security cameras, if they spot you, an alarm goes off and flying securtiy bots with machine guns are released to kill you. However, if you sneak up and hack the cameras, which is done by playing a fun and challenging min-game, the cameras become your allie and will send the killer bots after any of your enemies that walk into the cameras gaze. Also, you can hack security gun turrents and missle turrents that will unload a viscious attack on any enemy that walks into their path... instead of attacking you. This allows you to plan out some great defensive strategies.
Overall, if you own an Xbox 360 and like FPS games, then you MUST own Bioshock. One more thing I want to point out, I thought it was really cool that the developers chose to use a music sample from Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining". Remember the scene where Jack is kissing the girl from the bathtub, only to realize he's kissing a ghost of a dead woman? They use the music from that disturbing scene in key parts of the game to scare you...and it works perfectly!
