Excellent Gameplay! Big Daddy!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

As far as games I've played for the XBox 360 go, this one is one of those elite games that stands out as being special. The plot and environment is very immersing, and DARK! I like the fact the player can decide whether to harvest or save the little girls. And the whole story coming full circle in the end really made this game GREAT! The quality of graphics is superb. Two thumbs way up.

Not recommended for children, but I guess - hence, the Mature rating.

Simply amazing.

This is by far the most unique single player FPS experience I've had.

A new classic.

This game is the best Xbox 360 game so far. In every aspect its determined to become a new classic in the gaming industry.

A MASTERPIECE

My guess is the people who think this game sucks are likely fans of awful 360 games like Bomberman: Act Zero, Hour of Victory, Vampire Rain, Fuzion Frenzy 2, and Wartech: Senko No Ronde. This game is stunning because of its amazing storyline, its graphics, the gameplay, the AI of enemies, cool character designs, the amazing architecture of Rapture, and the moral choices. This game got all perfect scores from top magazines like Game Informer, GamePro, and EGM, which basically says that you cannot miss out on this once in a great while game. It delivers a whole new experience in the FPS category that you will likely never experience again for a long time.

Solid game, but little replay value

I generally liked this game. It has good graphics, good gameplay, big maps, and lots of different weapons and genetic alterations that are also upgradeable. The failed underwater utopia called "Rapture" is creepy and interesting to explore. I like the fact that ammunition is scarce, which forces you to carefully select the best weapon and gene enhancement to fight a given foe. Bioshock reminded me a lot of Resident Evil 4, which is one of my favorite games.

However, there are a few things I didn't like. First, the game has some bugs. One mission involved photographing 3 creatures, but the game did not credit me with one of the photos even though I had taken it. This left me trapped in a section of the city and I was forced to restart from an earlier checkpoint. Not a big deal, but cost me about 30 minutes. There was also some serious framerate stuttering at times and occasionally my gun would automatically fire while I regenerated at a checkpoint. Second, the game is repetitious. There are only about 5 or 6 foes and maybe 3 boss battles. Third: the game is easy. I played on medium setting and was able to easily beat the final boss without dying. I can't remember ever doing that on the first try in any game. Finally, there is little replay value in the game. There is only a single player mission and some may want to replay it with a different strategy or a harder difficulty, but not me. The game is too long and would be boring at this point. I finished the game in under 2 weeks while playing only a couple of hours at a time. If I had more free time, I could have finished it in less than a week, which would make it a rental for me. But I think every 360 owner should try this game.

Too difficult for part time gamers

This is written by a part time gamer who simply likes to enjoy a game. I find most games are far too difficult for the part time gamer even on the easy setting. All games should have a "Very Easy" option. I suspect that there are many others like me who would buy more games if they were not so difficult.

I thought the rest of the game was great. Because this was frustrating rather than fun I give it a 1 star. I wish I would not have bought it to pay for being frustrated.

Great game, but parents be warned...

Let me start off by saying that this is an excellent game. The gameplay excells. The graphics are near-perfect. Combat is interesting and dynamic. The story demonstrates the dangers of moral relativism. It's a well thought out, well executed game. Rapture's landscape is simply amazing.

That being said, it is very much deserving of the M rating. Blood is shiny and realistic. Mutilated corpses line the streets. The language is strong with many random uses of the f-word. This is unfortunate as it is unnecessary. The idea of a hidden utopia under the sea filled with crazy people is very unsettling in and of itself. The gore and language does nothing but take the focus away from the naturally unsettling landscape and suspensful story line. It is a non-stop gorefest in the same vein as "Saw."

I cannot wait until the day when videogame developers learn that this stuff isn't necessary to make a great game. Without the extreme violence and language, this is a phenominal game in every sense of the word.

Awsome, extremely awsome

Unique mood, various ways of combat, beautiful graphics, every factor satisfies me and probably many other players. Especially for me, battles cooperated by some hacked bots really excite me. Also Plasmids are all inidividual and makes me fun. I have to thank 2K to death because they made Bioshock playable in worldwide. Well, I wrote this poor short review by appreciation for 2K, but to be honest, I want to continue playing Bioshock right now. So I'm afraid but I stop it right here. Maybe I come back and add some later. Thanks 2K, with the greatest appreciation from far east.

Immerse Yourself in the Undersea Dystopia of Rapture....

Bioshock for the Xbox 360 is the most engaging game I've played all year! The storyline and environment totally immerse you into the city of Rapture, an Art Deco-styled scientific utopia turned upside down. Every detail, from the nostalgic advertisements on the walls, to the dynamic water effects, to the voice acting is top-notch. The originality of the plot and background stands above most games out there, and I give a lot of credit to the writers and artists behind the concept.
As far as gameplay goes, the controls are very fluid, and you can easily switch between your standard firearms arsenal and the sci-fi powers of Plasmid enhancements. With the Plasmids at your fingertips, you can freeze an enemy and smash him to pieces, engulf him in flames, set the robotic drones of Rapture upon him, or even have him attack his allies.
With elements of RPG and survival horror in there, Bioshock is hands-down one of the finest FPS games to date.
When does the sequel come out???
