stay away from this game. Run, dont walk. Bug ridden. Incompetant programming. Idiotic business decisions.

Do not Buy this game

Conceptually this game may sound appealing but after playing 3 months let me assure you DO NOT WASTE your time or money. It's maker FUNCOM has to be one of the worst game developers of all time. If you want to spend hours and hours building a character to a certain level of performance only to log on one day and find out all of the rules have drastically changed, go right ahead and buy this game. There are still countless bugs of items that don't work, references to places that don't exist in game, etc. Just so you know what you're getting yourself in for here is just one example of how FUNCOM works: in anticipation of the Europe lanch of this game wipe your Bulletin Boards of any complaints that exist, and then institute a moderated only reply system.

Confessions of a "Fanboy"

I'm what some would call a fanboy. In my eyes Funcom could do no wrong and they had created the greatest MMORPG ever. Well helping with Beta 4 and buying 2 copies of the retail version. I played for 2 months solid. My bottom line, I quit after many disconnections, poor customer service by Funcom, and the final straw... Boredom. I am a strong role player and have played other RPG's over the years, I must admit that AO has INCREDIBLE POTENTIAL! My problem with the software though is TERRIBLE implementation.

If I could assign a zero to this product I would.

this product is NOT ready for public consumption.

Bad, Very Bad Game!

*BEWARE the "FanBoi" 5-star reviews at the top, they know not of what they speak and are just trying to spam the review system.
Ok, I'll say something nice first - nice graphic engine, things do look pretty.

Now the bad:
1) Crash, crash, crash (may users can't play the game longer than 10 minutes)
2) FunCom has the worst Customer Support I've ever seen, makes Verant (EverQuest) look good in comparison.
3) Game Bugs abound. Not just common, but PROLIFIC! Some are so bad that they can be exploited, others make the game virtually unplayable with any enjoyment. The updates seem to add as many bugs as are fixed.

There are more but why bother - folks are leaving this game in DROVES. You are paying NOW for a Beta game that won't be enjoyable for a minimum of 6 months... save your money for Dark Age of Camelot!

Buggy, Boring, Broken

I Cant recommend this game. Fortunately I left the game before funcom started to introduce more bugs.
The game was extremely unstable for the first 2 weeks so much so crashing every five minutes was about par for the course. The poor coding of the game eats memory and did until I quit playing, that was 2 months in. Had to reformat my hard drive to fix the files this memory hog corrupted.
In the beginning the game really showed promise, but after running mission after mission after mission, it became extremely boring. How boring? play 500 games of tic tac toe that should give you an idea.
Moving in cities? it's a joke and still is. standing in one spot for 3 to 5 minutes, that takes patience.
Hunting? the game is so huge, it seems virtually empty.
Exploring? When I explored, the zones looked flat, dead, and nearly featureless.
Storyline? there is none, and the one funcom is proposing will only actually run about 7 months out of the year.
Customer service? None. Not bad mind you NONE. If you have a problem, you had better just grin and bear it, as you will not recieve a response.
Tradeskills? Horribly broken, currently there are only 1 or 2 things a player can do that is at all worthwile.
I quit BEFORE all these new bugs were introduced, and from what I am reading it's only gotten worse.
Never before have I bought a piece of software that was such a total waste of my money.

The game is a fraud.

I am embarassed I coerced my family and friends to buy this game. They are "all" mad at me for doing so. I am pretty mad at myself after having played it for a month.

The lag is truly awful. The game is terribly bug ridden. It is riddled with exploits. There is "no" class balance. The PVP is totally broken. With every patch they introduce more problems than they previously had.

Their customer service is sickening. This is no exxageration... when you send a petition you can expect a 3-day wait for a reply from a gm. So yeah if you are stuck in one of their buggy walls you might aswell kill yourself because there is no online support.

If an item poofs or morphs into a wet noodle... too bad.

Now on to the good parts of the game.

ummmm

Ok thats my review.

Looks nice on the surface but....

This game is literally RIDDLED with bugs and glitches. I've been playing this game since the later beta stages of testing and after release. I can tell you that this game never left the beta-testing stage even though it went live 27th June 2001. I have better things to do than pay 13 USD a month to participate in a beta test. Not only is the game flawed technicaly but another major problem is that the rules of the game changes fundamentaly every now and then without any warning. This becomes extremely frustrating when you have put alot of time into the design of your character because you have to "repair" it and try to overcome the problems introduced.

I do not recommend anyone to spend any money on this game. It borderlines theft to charge 13 USD pr month for this.

Sincerely
R

Anarchy and com yes, Online and Fun no.

Got it the first day of release. Couldn't play until because the first week they were constantly rebooting the servers to fix bugs that should have been found in beta. Finally got up to speed when a new server was opened and lag was somewhat fixed. However, they are constantly changing skills and abilities, forcing people to lose time and effort they invested in their characters.

Anyway, had fun about 3 weeks ago playing for a few hours and then logged off. Haven't had the desire to log back on since then. Too many problems occur make this feel like a beta.

Pulling your teeth is waaay more fun

Bug, bugs, bugs, bugs, bugs and more bugs.
Every time the game is updated they introduce new bugs.
The coding is horrible and it isnt getting fixed.
Norvegians make great pickled lox but they dont know jack about customer service or reliable coding.

With all the bugs and graphical glitches curerently AO is nothing but a huge chatroom. If you have no friends or a grilfriend and you're looking for similar people AO is for you.

Terrible letdown

I'd been looking forward to this game for over a year, and even with the terrible bugs and problems that haunted the game upon launch, I stuck with it hoping for improvements. I'm sad to say that even after two months and numerous attempts to fix the game, it is still a very poor effort. Technical glitches, arrogance from the support staff, and a lack of interesting content makes this a game to avoid.
