Doom 3 I thought was a very good fps, but not great. The grapics are topnotch and the sound design is great but thats about it. The story is very weak to me. Every doom has almost the same exact story. The monster designs though are terrific. The fat zombies and the space marines are some of the best that you will find in any game. Though the game can get laggy at some spots, especially if you dont have a supercomputer. If you dont have a good computer at all you would do better to get the xbox version if you have one.
pros::: GRAPHICS
character design
sound design
cons::: story is weak
some lag
very system demanding
you must buy a good processor, lots of ram and a good graphics card to get the best out of this game.
Was it worth all the hype?

Way back when Doom 3 was first revealed, many looked forward to its release. When that day finally came, opinions were split down the middle. Most either hated it or loved it, and I for one happen to have love it. Although I feel a tad foolish for paying full price for it on day 1, I still enjoyed nearly every minute of it. Despite the games fantastic graphics, which are some of the best ever, the games main flaw is its repetitive gameplay and drawn out levels towards the middle part of the game. Some of the levels are a bit too similar and some more open areas would have greatly helped with this. Also constantly looking for a pda(basically a key), can get tiresome. Also not to be forgotten, is the fact that Doom 3 is an extremely dark game. There are no lights attached to your guns so you must constantly switch back and forth. However, this factor gives the game is creepiness and its oppresive mood. For me, the game was quite startling at parts. You can eventually guess where the monsters will pop out but its still fun finding a scary moment. Despite the games flaws, it is still a blast wandering around blasting the heck out of various demons and zombies while admiring the Mars station. Another thing about this graphics powerhouse, is that it requires a somewhat midtier system to really shine. Basically if your willing to give a game that isn't quite as good as its older brothers(mainly Doom 1+2) a chance, then you will have fun with this remake of the original.
P.S. If you like this game, then be sure to grab the expansion Doom 3:ROE which is actually better.

After the horrors of the first Doom one would be inclined to think that nothing would ever be better. At first I thought it woud have been better not to mess with the sacred legacy of John Romero. But after playing Doom 3 I have discovered that the hellish monsters and the claustrophobic entrails they dwell are still there, but only produced by a far better engine, in fact, perhaps the best designed to date. The only drawback? The also hellish system requirements, memory guzzling and insatiable lust for excellent state-of-the-art components it demands in order to run at its highest.
A hopefully helpful review of doom 3

okay, first of all, lots of people are focusing their reviews on one or 2 parts of the game which isnt a very good review, so im going to try and give a full review. also tons of people complain about incredibly high systemv requirements, but i can play it PeRFECTLY with graphic settings on high, with my 5 year old computer. I also thought the graphics were incredeible, escpecially as the game is a year old!. I also like the interactive world, which is a rare feature of an FPS. you can talk to anyone and do anthing as you explore the complex in the begining before the demons break through. when you first arrive, you are scanned for any biological problems, then let into the compound. From here on it is fun to explore an take note of how realistic the world aropund you is. You can visit the bathroom, complete with leaky fausets, stall, urinalls and a mirror. Then check out with kitchen where you can watch the cook as he watches the news about a mining colony, or you can go over and play extreme turkey puncher on an arcade game machine. You can listen in on peoples conversations, open and close window shutters, or go annoy the cook. Then head over to the med bay where doctors are busy subduing a patient with a bloody face behind glass. then head over to marine control and let the nightmare begin...Its true, the story is a little weak, but a true FPS like this makes up for a lack of plot with its awesome action. You dont buy a shooting game for its story line usually. You buy it because you feel like running around with a fully automatic plasma rifle blasting massive holes in the chests of attacking demons. The scare factor is also good.. The beggining creeped me out, until i started getting used to stuff. It gets gradually less scary, but still has more then enough parts that make you jump. Lastly, the modding community is sure to have some great modifications out soon to add EVEN more insane gameplay!So, great graphics, good weapon selection, intense action and good just about anything other than story line (which is still okay!) make this a great game. i hope i didnt scare anyone away from buying the game with the part about a poor story, but look, far cry had a horiblle story line but it was awesome. Enough said, now go buy the game get your first wepon, and start blasting zombies.

In the reviews I see a lot of complaints about the action in Doom 3, and the multiplayer support. Well I wanted to just let you guys know that there is a mod out there that might help bring new life to Doom 3 for you! First of all it cooperative and includes new maps that are classic doom gameplay, including defense maps where you have to hold off attacking swarms. And for those that hate using the flashlight, there is infrared vision! There is cooperative play for the single player levels too which brings a whole new level of fun to Doom 3. Also the custom maps come with kick ass heavy metal soundtracks that you can turn down or turn off if you don't like the music. Check it out at http://lms.d3files.com Hopefully it will make you feel a little better about your purchase :) Take care.

PS FYI my rating is when you include the mod Last Man Standing with Doom 3, definitely makes it 5 stars to me.

This is a very good game. It runs seamlessly on my AMD 2800XP computer with 1 gigabyte of memory. Better yet the graphics are fantastic with my Radeon 9600 ATI graphics card with 256 megabytes.
First of all, I don't know what the complaints are all about concerning the game. I used to work at a cemetery and walking around in the dark did'nt bother me. If you need a flashlight attachment for your weapons, then maybe you should consult your physician before playing this game.
With the computer set-up that I have including a 19" CRT, installation was a breeze. There was no need to adjust the brightness or anything else. The sound quality from my CreativeLabs SoundBlaster Audigy2 plus LogiTech Z-300? speakers and subwoofer really brought the realism home. Id software did a marvelous job in the way their Dynamic engine renders the graphics detail with no visible slow-down or lapses in load
time.
Now to the heart of the matter(No pun intended.)
If you loved Sigourney Weaver in the Alien series, you will like this game. Yes, you are a Marine and carrying an arsenal in your backpack(literally). If it shuffles, groans, shrieks or looks at you and attacks just kill it. There is lots of blood and gore and if you get angry from getting killed once too often just find a fallen zombie to practice your aim.
Because this game is very straight forward, you do not need a strategy guide. Buttons will beep at you if they need to be pressed or panels will be lighted also. All you need to do is wander around and investigate. There is a story but it is only secondary to the killing of the demonic hordes that await you.
If there is a complaint to the game, then it has to be the off-gray colour of the demons like turd in a toilet too long. Why not purple, magenta, jade green, or blue? The Blade effect is also nice to view when a demon vaporizes when shot.
Currently, I am half way through the game and have not tired of it yet. The Plasma rifle that you eventually acquire is over-rated. You will have to lead your target because the projectile speed is inadequate and prone to gravitational forces? Stick with the SMG and Gattling gun for long range targets. Grenades are excellent for clearing certain areas but don't get too close.
Finally, I am impressed by the graphic details of the game. Everything looks, sounds, and feels? so real. Perhaps it is the esoteric occultic nuances in a sci-fi setting that gives the game that quality.
As I said before, if you saw Alien and Aliens then this is the game for you along with the uncanny computer voice in the background warning you of an imminent explosion.

I recently found my self-holding a copy of the E3 demo of DOOM 3. Even though this was just the demo with three playable levels, it is amazing. I am running an AMD XP 2100+ w/768mb pc2700 ram and an ATI Radeon 9500 pro 128 mb. This may not be the fast rig around but it still looks great this pc. The shadows in the game are outstanding. Watching a light swinging back and forth casting terrific shadows was the just the beginning. The monsters even cast shadows on themselves when in light. This is a truly dark game and the great lighting effects really jump up the scare factor here. The character models are great; the main character that you play has a 5 `o clock shadow and the details are amazing. The three levels I have been playing are just a taste by all the articles I have been able to read and I cannot wait to buy the game when it comes out in November.
Visually stunning, but gameplay same-old

Doom III is visually stunning, and truly creepy, with dark and scary surroundings. Sound is also first-rate, and adds that other dimension to the game. Gameplay though leaves a lot to be desired, and there's really nothing much new to it compared to Doom 2. I wish they had spent as much time innovating the gameplay as they did the graphics, but alas they didn't. It's a good game, and it's a lot of fun, but it could have been so much more.
buy it!

i havn't been so scared by a game since 1998 when i bought alien, an old dos game, Doom3 is VERY scary, the dark atmosphere, the atmospheric sounds (turn your sound system UP!)going on in the headphones as you move through the corridors, then a sudden attack by aliens, really makes my blood run cold and the hair stand up on my neck, if i was to critisise it i would have liked a few more puzzles to solve as i go through the game, i'm only on level 3 at the moment. a superb game and i'd recommend to any fan of fps games!
UPDATE!
i have completed 2 more levels since i started this review and can now say YES, it IS boring, there's not enough puzzles to solve as you go through the game, it's pretty much go down the hallways and shoot the aliens as they jump out at you, yes it's still scary and makes the blood run cold on occasions but there's not enough variety to keep the interest there.
fun = 3
overall = 3

Doom3 has the best atmosphere of any fps game I have played to date, beating out its competitor Half Life 2. The lighting in this game is incredible, it looks lifelike. Also, unlike HL2 Doom3 has nonstop action throughout the game, and truly gets your blood pumping. The more simplified gameplay of Doom3 is more in line with old school FPS games, such as the original Doom. In fact, this game even features 4 player multiplayer maps, so you can play Doom3 just like you used to play Doom - 4 players. A treat for old school gamers, and any gamer will enjoy the fantastic graphics, sound, and gameplay experience. Also, the game engine is bug free and does not suffer from the numerous technical glitches that bring down HL2. Highly recommended!
