Well, this game is nothing short of amazing. I had heard a lot of good things about this game and I really wanted to buy it. Obviously, it was a good decision because I play it whenever I get the chance. The graphics are amazing. On HD TV's, the graphics are a dream. I have a little 13 inch TV that I played a system link match with and the game still looked pretty crisp and clear.

The story line is takes you into the action from the start which is a plus. On harder difficulties, the game is even better because it forces you to rethink the run n gun strategy in Casual mode. The one thing that I was a little annoyed about was how short the Campaign mode was (minor complaint).

But the multiplayer capabilities completely make up for this and then some. Offline multiplayer is two person split screen and with system link capabilities. System link is especially fun if you got a couple of buddy's to play with. Online is great too. I've been reading forums about people complaining of younger kids who can't control their tempers and such but it's really a great online experience.

The controls are pretty easy to pick up on. Active reloading may seem like a chore but it makes the game that much better. The cover system is pretty good but it can be finicky at times. I've been in a situation at times where I'll be up against a wall and I'll press "A" to take cover but the character just attempts a sprint with the camera zooming in and out. But thats no biggy. I also wish there was a crouch mode but thats just a minor request. The ability to crouch WALK, not run, would be pretty nifty.

Overall, this game is solid gold. Nothing short of pure awesomeness. I'm glad I bought this. Thanks Epic for this great game. One more thing, unlike some other games that have been released recently with a ton of glitches and problems with online, Gears of War is pretty flawless when it comes that, at least in my experience with the game.

Revolutionary game. Must have for xbox 360.

Excellent Action Game for Xbox 360. The Xbox Live features are incredible with Gears of War. Two new maps were just released and are free to download. Highly recommend this game to everyone who loves action games.

Well, in my opinion, this is the best game out there right now. I like the fact that you can take cover while hitting the enemy. I like the fact that people can join you on a coop mode in story mode, helping you to move along the story of the game. I truly enjoy the graphics, they are amazing. The only thing .. is the background story .. but I really don't care that much .. game play is awesome and the controls are really good. I love this game, I hope Halo 3 is better .. this will mean more fun to us. I do not understand the other people that are giving this game three and two stars .. well its there opinion.. but this game is really great.

I love this game for the graphics, paper-thin story, and the goryness it brings to the shooter table.

Offline mode has a pretty decent campaign to run through. It is a bit short, but it becomes a ton of fun as you go deeper into the origin of the spawns, and how the main character ties in to the story overall. The game leaves a lot of holes for a sequel. I think it was done that way to focus more on the gameplay, which is incredible.

The cover feature has been used in other shooter games, but it is used in great elaboration in this one. You essentially use only one button for your cover, duck and jump moves, and is a bit awkward to use at first, but as you push through the campaigns, it becomes easier to learn and compete with. The weapons are the typical FPS type, shotgun, pistol, sniper, grenade launcher, but the chainsaw machine gun will definately win people over in terms of gore factor and the absolute fun of using it on someone.

Online is where I think this game lacks the most in consistency. Playing the campaign online publicly gets you a second player to play cooperatively fast, but most tend to leave if they die repeatedly, forcing you to go back to the title screen rather than going on solo and picking another player up. People leaving the game are the biggest frustration, and the average stranger never stays more than a few minutes.

The versus mode was a big disappointment too. It is all based on team play, which pits you 4v4. Most people's games end up going team deathmatch. Getting into a game is the worst, as you have to quickly join one or watch your slot get filled and have to do a lengthy refresh to find another game. Other times you join a new game where you must wait for 5-10 even up to 20 minutes before you get enough people to start. An auto-join queue like in Halo 2 would have been a big help for this game.

When you actually do get to start a team deathmatch game, whatever side that is reguarly losing leaves the game. Some games are "best of 13", and when a side is up 6 to 1, the side that only has 1 win leaves. No one can join in their place, so it leave you sometimes in a 1 on 4 deficit. It is next to impossible to get a kill in at this point, as all 4 players on the opposing side usually just stick together and zerg (rush) you.

Lag was also a problem with this game, as most of the players online during daytime hours in the states are European. Euro hosts create a significant lag time with the weapons if you're in the states, which gives them the advantage if they are on the opposing side. I really wish there was an option of turning off overseas matches. When playing at night I noticed I was significantly better against my opponents, especially those in around the dallas area.

If you do have a good group to play with, the game becomes really fun. I loved the campaign, the online play (when with friends or a good group), and the hopes for a sequel eventually. I recommend this game to anyone with an xbox, and a little bit of patience for the sagging online community.

Once I purchased this game, I kept saying one phrase over and over...what a ride!

This has to be one of the fastest moving, best graphics games of all times!

The graphics are unbeliveable! I am running in 1080i on a plasma, with 5.1 surround, and this game rocks!

I especially like the fact that it can go into 'movie mode', where your person talks to the rear, etc etc...and yet you can still control your person. The games I have played to date 'freeze' the person once the game goes into 'movie mode'...very nice touch!

Not for the faint of heart though...lots of blood and guts...example--you can 'chain saw' your enemy in half...very cool!

Next-Gen at its finest!!!
