Gears of... Punisher?

The game itself is a highly rendered generic first person shooter, with a story driven edge that doesn't ever even hit a middle.
I get frustrated when people embrace a new first person shooter, and through their adoration for the pretty graphics they convince themselves and attempt to convince others that the gameplay and story are just as impressive. This game is just like any other first person shooter, except this one was shorter than a Wolfenstein 3D shareware episode.
On normal mode, most first person shooter enthusiasts will waste it in about a day if not sooner.
This game attempts to put itself off as a story driven first person shooter, obviously trying to cash in on the glory that was Half-life (a much better game by the way).
The story of this game is hard to describe, in that I don't think the English language has enough words to describe how terrible it is. Briefly you'll encounter a courthouse, and the main character will exchange banter with his buddies in regard to a court case that had happened a while back. Apparently the main character got into some trouble, but the trouble was really a conspiracy against him. After this scene, the story doesn't proceed at all. You just run, shoot, and dream the rest up on your own.
The point of playing the story driven first person shooter that is this game, is supposed to be that you want to save humanity from an alien horde living throughout tunnels that reach deep below the earth. First you have to run and shoot to map the tunnels, then you have to run and shoot to board a train that has a bomb on it that can destroy all the aliens. The train isn't going anywhere in particular, it just runs on it's own until you conquer the game. The big bad end boss is on this train though, and he waits patiently for you to run and shoot your way to him. The very intelligent end boss apparently doesn't care that he's standing right next to a bomb that if detonated underground could wipe out his species. I'd snip a few wires if I was him, but hell, I guess that would be "unclimactic" for the evil genius.
I've recently played a very good game, with a nifty comic book plotline, called "The Punisher". The main character in Gears of War is the Punisher, in looks and in attitude. They are the exact same character, just rendered with a scar and more skin detail in Gears of War. See it for yourself, the tards at Epic just basically repackaged an already interesting character.
The graphics in this game are awesome, the gameplay is borderline average, the plotline is the stupidest plotline in a video game I've ever seen. I rip on the plotline so much only because a first person shooter doesn't really need one, this one brags about having one. It really doesn't, you just run and shoot and run some more. You can't even jump in this game, you have to take cover behind an obstacle and choose to surpass it from that position.
Rent this game, even if you're a diehard FPS fan.

This game should not be sold for $90. I bought mine at best buy for only 6$60. Do not get jipped on this deal, it will cost you thirty dollars extra. It is an extremely good game though. Probably the best on Xbox 360 right now.
Fanboys shut up already!

Allow me to tell the TRUTH about this game and why Gears of War sucks. This game has horrible level design, every level looks exactly the same it just feels like your playing the same level over and over and what makes that worse is that all the enemies are lame and look exactly the same. Also Lame graphics that old in 3o seconds. Worst of all is the gameplay, grenades suck running sux walking sux cover sux and even getting out of cover sux. Also the stupid big dude you play takes up half the screen which is plainly dumb design. EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP BEING SUCH FAN BOYS AND FOLLOWING EVERYONE ELSE. THIS GAME IN ALL HONESTLY IS JUST NOT FUN AT ALL, DO NOT BUY!!! there are plenty of other awesome 360 games and this is not one. If you want a similar duck and cover game get GHOST RECON ADVANCED WARFIGHTER. GRAW is much better game and one that actually has smooth cover gameplay. Ive beaten both gears and Graw. Graw is better. Soo get that, not gears of war. GEARS SUCKS!!!
Too short for the money

I can't believe they charge you $60 for a game my son beat in two days. It couldn't hold my interest. Another boring shooter that was really meant to lure you to play online with a gold membership.
don't like it

I don't like the graphics, so much publicity but the game doesn't have any great, the movements are very slowly and complicate, I prefer Ghost Recon.

fun yeah but over rated. Rainbow six vegas has a similar cover system but is more realistic and intuitive. C'mon.. the story sucks in gears.. you have a squad but have next to no controls over their actions.. and the chainsaw blows. Sorry fanboys.
Although fun has many issues that WILL ANNOY.

I was one of the many that waited a year or so to play this game and when I finally did I felt pretty good about my purchase. Of course the game is too short, the graphics are phenominal, and the game play is refreshing and a nice change from the typical First-person shooter game. BUT, this game has a tremndous amount of flaws that can cause many to stop playing the game.
First, there are several bugs in the multiplayer that are very annoying. Because I don't have time to list them all one of them is where several times I went to change guns and it would get stuck on my back and I had no way of defending myself.
Another enormous annoyance this game has is the way the multiplayer is set up. It's the same way in which MM games have been setting up for 10 years. Tell the system what you want, wait to see what's available, select it, get kicked out of the room, try again, get kicked out again, finally get in, sit around for 2-5 minutes waiting for 8 players, some quit, some stay, finally you get your team together, things seem to be going well, then the host quits 1 round before the 19 round game is over, everyone is kicked out of the game, and all your hard work and 55 minutes is now gone. Waisted... Epic should have taken some notes from the ingenious Halo 2 multiplayer. There's a reason Halo 2 is still played so much 2.5 years after release.
There are half a dozen exploites in the game that are terrible that are heavily used.
The worst part of the game is how the host of the game will have a HUGE advantage over all the players in the game, which gives the host's team an enormous advantage. It's completely irresponsible that Epic gives that type of advantage to a player.
Once I accomplished the achievements I wanted I dumped this game and have vowed to myself to never ever play it again, and unless Epic makes huge advances in Gears of War 2 I won't be back.

I have a 360... I have an HDTV... but these graphics were aweful. Story line repeated and was very unimpressive. I was super eager for the game to come out and once i bought it I realized it wasnt worth it. It took me no time at all to beat and justg wasnt worth the money
Not "better than" Halo.

This game maybe fun, but by no means can it even come close to the Halo franchise. Slow mechanics and a suprisingly difficult learning curve chalk this game in the "not bad, but not fun" category.
