Best reason so far to own an Xbox 360

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 0

This is definitely the best game released thus far for the Xbox 360, and one of the best FPS games available. It is really strong in a lot of areas. Graphics are very solid (as one would hope, being in a next-gen system) through-out, and although they may not totally blow you away at first, you will definitely notice how much better they are when you switch back to a PS2 or XBox game. However, playing this game on an HD-TV really shows how much better textures can look on the 360. The game also has a fantastic frame-rate throughout the one-player campaign as well. Probably the best example of how "next-gen" the game is comes from the level design. More than any other console game I've played, this game really makes you feel like you're in the middle of a war. Friends and foes fight all around you, charging, using smoke grenades, calling out movements, sometimes getting blown apart all around you. Some levels will find you holding down a building or other location against waves of enemy troops which number in the hundreds. This sense of scale, of being immersed in an actual war, really is what makes the game.

I was also very, very pleased with the controls, which make or break a console game for me (for example, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One is not nearly enjoyable because its controls are not nearly as responsive or as well mapped to the controller). Its very easy to get into the game and feel like you are able to do exactly what you want, when you want - a definite necessity for a great FPS.

The only area this game disappoints in is the multi-player, which has become a buggy, lag-filled mess. The occasional game that doesn't fall apart due to lag and players dropping out can be fantastic. There are a lot of varied games to play and the levels for multi-player are great. If the rumored patch ever comes out, then this game will start to eat up a lot of my time again.

I definitely recommend Call of Duty 2 to anyone with an Xbox 360.

Multiplayer issues

Pros:
Best graphics of any first person shooter on the 360
Excellent feeling of atmosphere.
Great use of sound positioning (You'll here the footsteps of enemies which is of great use online, rain sound diminishes when going in doors, outdoor and indoor footsteps.)
Sharp texture quality
Immersive single player mission (jaw dropping mission in the midst of a rain storm)
Large multiplayer maps where 70 - 80 % of buildings can be entered.
Detailed multiplayer maps. Multiplayer maps provide plenty of objects for cover.
Buildings of large size. Some are two stories with about 6 rooms.
Multiplayer map design and fighting system force you to find cover and discourages the run and gun style.
Far draw distances.

Cons:
Multiplayer system is full of errors and bugs.
Some lobbies can take 10 to 15 minutes to load.
Once you get into a game the frame rate can drop to 10 to 20 fps.
Cannot choose your own map.
It is taking to long to release the multiplayer patch!
Single player missions can be lost from time to time.
For every 5 games played 3 have significant lag and loading problems.
Too much emphasis on sniper weapon in the multiplayer games.
No sub-options for the multiplayer games. You can only choose what type of the multiplayer you want such as Capture the Flag, Headquarters, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and from there no other options can be set.
Some issues with jumping into windows.
When the multiplayer runs well there is no lag and the frame rate can hit 40 to 60 fps.
True Ranking system seems to be a hidden mystery.

Final words:
I would recommend not buying this game until you here of a solid update that fixes the multiplayer issues. At the same time the multiplayer (when it works well) is more immersive than any other fps that I've played. The mechanics have a feel of Medal of Honor on the Xbox but improved to a degree. The fact that this game only uses 1 of 3 cores and still looks great is a hint of things to come.

Tips:
If you want to win in multiplayer you have to use the Sniper rifle.
Bend down when you enter a building because the enemy will hear your footsteps.
Never stay in one place for too long.
Don't focus too much on what's near you, focus in the distance and in windows of buildings.
Always look behind you frequently.

My Rating:
7.2 out of 10
If multiplayer was improved w/ more options:
8.8 out of 10

Graphics are stellar

I buy all of the 360 games as soon as they come out - at least I have so far. Of all the games, the sound and visual quality of this game us just flat out impressive. The story line and flow is very pre-determined so there is not much mystery to the adventure. The thrill comes from what your sensory system will absorb. If you are not using high-def TV and a good surround sound system, you will probably still enjoy it but if you want to be blown away, go all out and get the hook up. I am hopeful there will be a number of 360 games coming up with similar quality.

Single player campaign only review - excellent and immersive

Call of Duty 2 takes place more than half a century in the past during World War II. It is about as close as you can come to being there using today's commonly available technology. I played on a crappy 19" color TV provided by the military, so I didn't get the full experience.

I plan to play through the single player campaigns again when I get home. The game is that engrossing.

You start off the single player campaign as a Russian private and you're thrown into battle almost immediately after a very short shooting and grenade tossing lesson.

Everything about Call of Duty 2 is scripted. It's so well scripted though, that I often felt as if the soldiers around me were actually thinking and breathing. Part of this effect is created by the game's amazing graphics engine; which allows you to see the frost rising as men breathe in and out in the cold Russian winter. The sounds of battle are ultrarealistic as well. The troops around you talk and you hear radio chatter that give you hints about what is going on as well as explicit instructions.

Back to the scripting though. At one point in the game, I found myself out of the action, because I'd wandered backwards through the scripted sequences into an area where the action was already over. The game's sense of "aliveness" had completely died. Everything felt static and two-dimensional. As soon as I hit an invisible map line, the chatter and living war environment picked right back up.

As you play through Call of Duty 2, you'll find yourself playing the role of sniper, machine gunner, grenade lobber, tank driver and explosives expert in a variety of stunningly rendered environments.

Overall, the environments and the storyline are superb. From the beginning campaign in the dead of Russian winter to the final climatic scenes storming German fortified positions in France, you'll die many times and watch those around you dying too. Until we have a Star Trek holodeck to play with, this is about as close as you can get to real war without losing the reset button. Trust me, the reset button in a good thing. War is a sobering experience.

If you're a World War II history buff and action shooter junkie, or either one, this game is for you.

Excellent World War II Shooter

Call of Duty 2 is one of the best if not the best shooters that I have played. The HD graphics are outstanding, and the action is thrilling. This game puts you right in the middle of World War II.

Playing single player is alot of fun, but most of the missions repeat, just with different enviroments. That is my only reason for giving it a 4/5. I suggest after getting used to the gameplay, to complete the campaign mode on one of the two highest difficulties. I chose to play it on vetern and I am still working on it a while. Playing on the easiest difficulty is way too easy. If you want more experence for your buck, choose one of the hardest difficulty.

Multiplayer is great. It isent my favorite game to play on Xbox live but all in all, maps are of moderate size, graphics are still great, and its very easy to join a game. I love Call of Duty 2 and im sure I will continue to play it for many months. Great buy for $60.

It's Still The Best XBox 360 Game Avaliable

Call Of Duty 2 was the first XBox 360 game I ever played, and even now I believe it's still the best. The graphics are in the top echelon of all 360 games, the gamplay is superb, and the game can be as challenging or easy as you want it. Both the single and multi-player portions are well done (the multi-player game originally suffered from horrendous lag and connection problems, but Infinity Ward's patch sorted those problems out). The newly-released Multiplayer Map Pack ensured that this game will continue to endure as one of the most played titles on XBox Live. If you can only buy one game for your 360, this should be it.

Blood of a soldier

heart of a warrior
Pros:
-Excellent graphics(The framerate is silky smooth, and no matter how much stuff is on the screen the game doesn't slow down, unless you get hit by a granade)
-Unbeatable sound effects
-Realistic aiming system(This is what made me love this game)
-Great voice acting
-Replay value is pretty high
-Online mode is excellent(It's the main reason why I play this game more than any game I own so far.)
-This is the best WWII game to date.
Cons:
-The PC version has 16 players allowed to play online, while the 360 has 8, and the PC version cost 10 bucks less.(I feel like I go ripped off in a way since I payed more and got less)

Call of Duty 2 is a excellent game, that doesn't have much to hate about it, and it's a ton of fun. If you own a Xbox 360, get this!

Impressive yet flawed

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 0

Let me start off by saying that I am very impressed with this game on many accounts:

The graphics are absolutely stunning. Everything from the way a sniper rifle moves up and down with the character's breathing to the helpful golden glow that is given off by items that you need to reach, everything seems to be set perfectly.

The audio as well is an impressive achievement. The voice acting is superb, each weapon has a distinct sound when it fires, the different and varied insults that each soldier shouts at its enemies are clever, and the music sets the mood instantly.

The controls are simple and easy to pick up (a very good thing).

There are definitely some flaws in this game, however:

There are certain instances where your screen will go black and the message "error- sentient out of range" will pop up. This is an absolutely dreadful sign, as it logs you out of your current session without saving the last checkpoint that you reached (this is especially an issue when playing on "Veteran" difficulty where each checkmark is a major achievement).

AI can be a bit buggy at times. There was one instance where I unloaded a full clip of machine gun ammunition and atleast 5 different enemy soldiers literally ran right into my line of fire.

As a side note, the game is very linear, something that I dislike in shooters. Your actions are typically restricted to a very limited area until you achieve that area's goals, at which point another very limited area opens up. This does add to the "cinematic" qualities of the game, but I found it frustrating nonetheless.

Overall, I would give this game a 3.8
While it is a good game overall, the replay value quickly diminishes to how linear the gameplay is. At most you will likely play this game through once on Veteran and once on an easier difficulty.

Good game, but I suggest a rental before you buy it.

An awsome game. Worth the money (scavenger hunt)

This is a must buy for the xbox 360 console. It is a fun as it is amazing! I would definitly recomment buying it to anyone who carries a 360 in their possesion. Although the online is a bit laggy and has a very small server, it is still fun and worth the wait to get a game going (most of the time :) Congratulations on making it this far into my scavenger hunt! Next you will have to message me with this code so I know you made it this far. The code is "CODIN09" The graphics I wouldn't say are xbox 360 material, but they are still fairly dencent. I have this game and it is my favorite 360 game up to date. Also, one of the most played games on xbox live at the moment.

Great game, good replayability with LIVE

this is the best game I have played so far on my 360. the graphics are great(and I don't even have HD!), the game is awesome, and the live is stellar now that Infinity Ward, the games developer, has come out with a patch that will reduce the lag that used to plague live subscribers.
