I have passed many rpg's like final fantasy 10 but I like to say that Legend Of The Dragoon is even better then FFX . Legend of the Dragoon will take you upon a great adventure , one sure thing though a hard adventure . I am ... old and I have bought the psx when I was 13 and I still say that Legend Of The Dragoon is the best RPG ever . It is worth to buy a sure thing . My first impression of this game wasn't very good. The battle system wasn't easy to adapt to at first, the translation didn't draw me in and I found some of the characters to be damn annoying, so I put the game away to collect dust on the shelf.
One day I was bored so decided to pop the game back into my PS. And I instantly changed my mind on how I viewed the game!
Where should I start? Well the game is based on a VERY BIG world, which is seperated into each of the four discs. Each disc is used to travel each of the four major continents, and locations on them. You play as Dart, a male mercenary who has returned to his new hometown after adventuring for awhile, looking for a clue as to what destroyed the town he was born in. He arrives to be attacked by a dragon, and is only just saved by a mysterious woman. He thanks her and runs off, to his village only to find it has been ransacked, and his childhood friend, kidnapped. And so the adventure begins.
What makes this game unique is the fact that it has a battle system unlike any other. The only one I can think of that comes close is the Shadow Heart Judgement Ring system. The system here is to press the 'X' button at the right time, through the combo, to execute it properly. Though an enemy can counter during your move, which turns the spinning Square red, which means you must press the 'Circle' button else your combo is interupted and you take damage. Another exclusive feature of the battle system is that when you defend, you gain some lost HP. This is an asset in a dungeon, where you are nearly dead, as you can continously defend in battle until you are back up at full health, the command also reduces damage done by both spells, and attacks, and negates any status ailment effects. Thus you can not be killed instantly, poisoned etc etc when you are defending. The other good thing about the battle system is that if you ARE poisoned or dispirited, all you have to do is change into your Dragoon form, to get rid of the effect. Changing into a Dragoon costs SP, and allows you to use your exclusive Dragoon attack, or perform Drgaoon magic. SP to turn into a Dragon is gained with each successful combo hit on an enemy, or can be gained when your character is damaged whilst a certain item is equipped.
A down side to the game is that you may only carry 32 items with you at once, meaning you have to choose carefully which spell items you want to keep, and whether or not you will need healing items, and medication. It makes the game alot harder, especially during a boss fight if someone dies and you find you have no Angel Prayers in your inventory.
The other downside is the translation which can seem a little incoherent at time, but is still quite easy to follow.
What drew me in about this game is it's storyline, and the voice acting in the CGI cutscenes. The story keeps you engrossed and guessing right the way through as to who is who, and what is what.
With such a colourful cast of characters, including the comic Meru, who falls over as her victory pose, what is not to like about this game?
Decent, but no where better than Final Fantasy.

The game is cool...don't get me wrong. But there's times in the story where 1.you just don't understand WHAT they're talking about, and 2. you wanna bang their heads against a brick wall(except for Rose...she's cool). There's nothing you can do to change the outcome...it's as straight as a board. The only thing cool about it is the additions and Dragoon spells. Otherwise, it's a waste.

I would have to say overall this game is real good! It has a good plot, sweet characters, cool moves, and the cool part about this is you actually do press buttons while you attack instead of pressing attack and letting it do it by it self, and one more thing you can choose your attacks and they are like special's except you don't have to wait till your special meter fills up. and so in conclusion this isn't like all the other RPG's!!
Thank you for taking your time reading this review.
Very great RPG game!!

If you liked Final Fantasy 7 & 8... you will adore this game!
The graphics are not as clear and FF 8, but the plot is great.
I first got this game because it looked cool. And I am very glad i got it. It is wonderful game that you should give a try.
(u can only save game at save points like ff 7 & 8... but there is always one before a boss.)
One of the um... most average?

This game is extremely overrated. Don't get me wrong, I loved it when I first got it, but then the disapointment set in. The graphics are FF7 quality, the characters are dull, and don't even get me started on the repetitive addition system. When I first got it, I expected the story to get good near the second disc, but it really just got worse. Stay away unless you got way too much money, instead get the awesome Final Fantasy 9, which to this day is one of my top 3 RPG's.

I guess it depends on who you are to like this game or not...Everyone has different tastes. In my case, I'm on my first disc and so far so good. The music and the graphics were great but I was disappointed by the character's conversation because...well, it seemed dull. I don't think they did all that great in translating the original dialogue. If you are a Final Fantasy Fan...Like me ^_^ I guess this might fit your taste. The way they battle is kind of knew to me and I guess it's interesting but it get's kind of fustrationg when your trying to do some extra damage but not being able to press the button at the right time. The main characters Dart and Shana reminds me a lot of the two characters in Final Fantasy 7 (Cloud and Tiffa). Cloud and Dart Have the same determination and for Tiffa and Shana they have the same cheeryness. Sometimes I wonder if the company coppied off of FF7. I guess my main point is "DON'T CRITICIZE GAMES THAT YOU DIDN'T ENJOY BECAUSE SOMEBODY ELSE MIGHT OF!!!!!!!!!!"

First off I'd like to say I should not be the judge of this game, Because i've barely even started it. I should not be the person to tell you whether or whether not you should buy this game.
Graphics:10/10. You'll either love them or hate them (I loved them). It's a mixture of really good 2-d backgrounds and 2-d/3-d people.
Sound:7/10. The voice acting there is, is pretty good. Other than that everything is just average.
Control:8/10. Not much to say. Easy to pick up and play.
Cinemas:9/10. Aren't too many but are sweat graphics and pretty cool.
overall fun:8/10. This is a unique, fun game with few flaws
This game rocks!

This is by-far one of the best role playing games ever made. You should definitely buy this. It has a great plot, great graphics, great settings, and excellent gameplay. The battle system is awesome, as well. The language is rough, though. There aren't many sidequests, but the few that they have will take a lot time and devotion. One of them will even take a lot of hp and money.
The characters all have a unique story and in some way are connected to Dart. Dart is the main character. The other characters are... Well, you'll have to wait and see for yourself.
This game may have some flaws, but it should definitely be on your Christmas list.
A great RPG to pass the time.

To start off, the game starts SSSSLLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWWWW. After about two hours of playing, you begin to wonder where it's all going. Finally, the plot begins to pick up, along with the addition of memorable characters. The fighting system is also a major plus, requiring skill, not just pressing a button. Some of the enemies and bosses attacks are so creative and awesome to watch, even if they kill off a character! After so much, you are rewarded with the ability to turn into a Dragoon that can deal massive damage and launch spell attacks. Some flaws that hinder the experience is the bad music and dialogue. You'll probably find yourself laughing at some of the things some people say dealing with the plot. All in all, it's a great ride, especially at this low price.
