Syria and dynamix have made an absolute hash of this game. I don't think they did any beta testing at all. Its just bug after bug after bug, theirs no end to it. I have re-installed this game so many times, reinstalled windows, got every utility that is meant to fix the dam thing, but still I prefer to play tribes 1. After fixing MANY bugs my current bug is that in the game if I press anything on the keyboard the game crashes. Its absurd. The frame rate is very low even though I think I have a fairly good computer. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME until Syria / dynamix have released enough patches to get the game to work. They have been working on this game for THREE YEARS what have they been doing? Why the hell is it so [bad] when other games they make like half-life and stuff is so good? I cant tell you enough DO NOT BUY THIS GAME it's a waist of money, get tribes 1, it so much better!!
If you've got the PC, this game is well worth the price

First, don't even think about buying this game unless you've got a decent video card and a fast internet connection: it won't be worth your money otherwise. You'll get odd error messages if your video card isn't up to parr (I think someone else mentioned that here as well) and unless you want to turn onto everyone's favorite Lag Frag, you'll need something a bit more robust than the standard 56K modem. You'll need to download several patches to get the thing to work but once you get past this minor irritation and if you've got the hardware, TribesII has definitely got the action for you! With the standard variation of 'First-Person-Shooter' game types (including Capture the Flag, Siege (basically you either defend a base or attack it and then switch sides halfway through), etc.), they've added an assortment of ground and air vehicles which you'll need to master in order to win. You add to that the different weapons and armor types that each person can carry and you've got one highly customizable soldier! Now get about 32 of these folks (divided into roughly equal teams) in one game, some of them racing around in vehicles (which, FYI, include tanks, bombers, a scout bike and a fighter), some of them deploying mines and defense turrents, others blowing up enemy installations, and still others roaming around sniping the opposing team with plasma mortars and you've got one heck of a fun time! This barely controlled chaos is great. If you're a fan of FPS's like Half-Life, Doom and the almost legendary Diakatana (just kidding on that one--insider gamers joke for ya ;), you'll definitely like this game.
Be careful

This game, I've been told, is great. However, if you have a Voodoo-based card (as many of us still do) the game will not use your graphics card and instead will use software rendering. This means that it will look like CRAP and run like a slideshow. When I say CRAP, I mean it will look worse than Atari games from the late 80's. Beware, Voodoo owners!
Not for poor CPUs

This game is one of the best out there. But let me give you one warning, if you have a slow connection, try another game Now, onto the game. The install is quick(with my computer) and with a DSL the patches weren't long to d/l. Setting up the controls took a while, but not to long. The actuall game takes a long time to get used to. If you are a flight sim expert, you will be right at home with the vehicles. There is too much to tell you about, but let me tell you one thing, This game is excellent.
Warning!

WARNING! If you are not used to the awesome fun of Tribes 1, then I suggest you run out and buy a copy of it to go along with your copy of Tribes2, these are two of the all time greatest games ever created for the PC, but be warned, you may lose days of sleep while sitting at your computer.

I'm sure that it is a good game, if you can get it to run. They released this game to early, it still has way to many bugs in it. Much more than any other game I've installed. Wait a few months.
WHAT? NO FREE POPCORN! Thats about all its missing!

I have been dying for T2 to come out, and I've never been this disappointed in anything I've bought. My machine is a PIII/800 with a Voodoo3 2000 (per the system reqirements), 128 megs of RAM. Tribes2 CRAWLS. The game is absolutely unplayable. I don't know what the reviewers who raved about Tribes2 were running it on, but it certainly isn't anything available in my local computer store.
Seems to me like Dynamix left the bad features (i.e. the 5-minute wait for the server list to refresh and poor network performance), and destroyed the good ones (like original Tribes' fast graphics engine and the speed with which the missions loaded). This is a 500+ megabyte pig. ... I'm so sad I could cry.
A must own game, unless......

...you own a Voodoo card. The Voodoo compatability is terrible right now. If you own a Voodoo card, wait a month or two and then see if they have improved the performance. If you already own an nVidia based card, you should definately get this game. It has a lot of depth and unlimited replayability.
