Wow. This game is really something. It isnt really much of a comparison to 1942 since the gameplay action is so much smoother and better. Its not the type of game that you would get sick of either, you can play endlessly online. I really want this!
Outstanding!

Everything about this game is outstanding except the single-player mode is lacking any sort of "campaign" mode. This is the only drawback; other than that, it is awesome.
A game for everyone.

My friend got me interested in this game. At first I liked it but wasn't head over heals about it until I found out this game is very much like the quake games. This game also appeals to my artistic side. I can be a game designer. In fact if all I wanted to do as design game maps and host game servers I can do just that. This game has a reseau of strategy, game design, and server administration. This game is perfeccion; attiendre la perfection, as the old french saying goes. The only reason I dabbled in the quake games was because I enjoyed creating my own maps and hosting dedicated servers. What leaves me in pure bliss though, is EA allows players to host a linux dedicated server without a seperate CD-Key and game! I am taken aback that BF2 also can be played on linux as a dedicated server only and I don't need a CD-Key or seperate CD for that! One thing annoying about hosting dedicated servers in the Quake and Unreal Tournament games was that if I wanted to play on my dedicated server via my Windows computer I would need a cd-key and CD for my Linux box and a seperate cd-key and CD for my Windows Box. This is hardcore-fan-price-gouging ! Id software knows players who want to host their own linux server have a much higher desire for the game then the casual player so they charge those players a premium. A great way to gouge the die hard fan and profit from it, any economist will applaud Id Software for a job well done. When Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament 2004 first were released those games first came out at $50 a pop! Times that by two and that equals $100 just to play the game! This is really unfair and imo unethical to stiff someone an extra $50 if they just want to have a dedicated server. My hat goes off to EA for not stiffing me. This way is more encouraging to linux/unix dedicated server fans. A great game don't miss out on this one!
This game isn't worth the money

To those of you who are going to buy this game, don't. This game has countless bugs. Whats hilarious is I have a computer with 82 GB of memory and a Radeon 9550. This game bugs up so much it isn't even funny. I fixed the problem then it came back. This game isn't worth the money. Unless they come out with a patch that fixes most of these problems Im not going to play it. The game bugged up and I uninstalled it. Right now it is sitting here collecting dust. Get some other game unless they release a patch that fixes most of the problems in this game.
pretty fun but slow

like the guy below me i have to agree it is slow and you must have a fast comp. but for the most part it is a good game for any body that wants a semi realistic game
i would advise to not get it if you
1. are a very good at comp fighting, it will get boring for you
2. have a slow computer or not so good memory card

As far as shooter games go this is the best for realism. I would like to have seen more choice for weapons, but I will assume that will be rectified when the expansion pac arrives.
Amazing game, TERRIBLE LOAD TIMES & COMPATIBILITY!!!!

Oh, caveat emptor doesn't begin to sufficiently warn you about what you're getting into here. Allow me to first start off by describing my brand new system:
AMD 64 x2 4400+ (2.2GHz Dual Core, 2 MB total L2 cache)
2GB PC3200 DDR RAM, 128-bit dual-channel configuration
Asus A8N-SLI Motherboard
ATI Radeon X850XT 256 MB PCI-Express Video CARD*****
Now, when I installed this game, things went pleasantly. Unfortunately, the load times are completely ridiculous.
With just 512 MB of RAM on my otherwise state of the art system, it took 5 full minutes to complete the loading process. Then, it further taunts you with a "Loading Complete. Verifying Client Data." message, which itself takes another minute or two to reconcile.
After you get into the game, there's about 30 seconds of lag and death as the game gets its virtual memory bearings.
THAT SAID, you ABSOLUTELY need more than 512 MB of RAM to run this game. Without more, it has to write everything out to virtual memory (i.e. your hard drive) and you'd be best to bring a novel.
Once I upgraded memory, things were flying. I decided to up my graphics from the mediocre Medium setting to High.
Half way through the first match, everything with a texture went black. The screen flickered and then came back to life. Convenient, I thought.
The Radeon X850XT is probably the best or second best video card solution you can buy (Excluding a NVidia whose name escapes me, or NVidia with SLI, naturally). There's no reason this sort of thing should be happening. I'm not overclocking the card, and of course, the card is reporting normal operating temperatures.
Turning to ATI's knowledgebase, and lo and behold, there's a major "known issue" with high level textures and the Radeon X800XT and X850XT. Their "workaround?" "Set texture setting to medium."
Yes. Because when I spent $450 on a video card, I was doing it to SET THINGS TO MEDIUM. THANK YOU, EA.
Anyway, I'm about to start calling people and yelling, because this is completely unacceptable. My brother's machine, on the other hand, with the less-endowed X800XL, is running it FINE on high-quality. Superb, that.
Just beware before you buy this, and make sure the return policy is stellar.
Or download the demo first and see how your system handles it. And don't try to max out the graphics. It's not worth it.
Regarding the game itself, it should be noted that the gameplay is fast, fun, and accurate. You get to climb the ranks as you play multiplayer, eventually unlocking more weapons, and gaining awards. It's a lot of fun, requires strategy and intelligence, and is a good time all around. Better than a normal FPS for a lot of reasons, you should definitely go for this, if you have God's blessing and a system that'll work.
Stop whining you no star givers

This game is a pretty dang good game. I'm in the US Army and I know my weaponry and equipment very well. The weapons are very well balanced and the unlockable weapons are not a lot better. Like the G3 replaces the M203 for US Assault class. I like the M203 better because of the underslung 40mm grenade launcher and the little extra power and smaller clip just aren't worth it.
The vehicles are pretty well balanced though it seems like the Main Battle Tanks are a little weak and a lack of any real good mobile anit-aircraft for infantry.
The bugs can be lived with. I have a $1200 Hp desktop from a year ago that my parents bought me and a cheap 9600 radeon graphics card and I can still run it with damn good graphics.
People complaining that you have to play for countless hours in order to get good and have fun is bullshet. I have only been playing online games for a year and a half now. My brother has been playing constantly since the very first Multiplayer games like Mechwarrior 2. I kick his [...] at this game. In fact I usually finish in the top 5 every game I play and I don't play that much.
This is a good and realistic game. Realistic within reason as the playing field has to be decently level. If you like games at all this is a good one. The only bit of advice I have for it though is to try new things online. I rarely try the same tactic more than twice in the same game and this keeps people guessing and keeps the game fun for everyone, and dont think of it being high end as extending the period of time over which the game will sell, but as extending the period of time that the game will remain popular and fun.
And five stars once the new patch comes out.

I was very pleased with the game. It arrived in a short period of time and was exactly what it was advertized to be.
