Game of the year (2005), hands down! This is all out war and Dice puts you right in the middle of it, literally!

At this point there's no point in writing a detailed review since there are plenty to read from but I will highlights some of the features:

Outstanding overall gameplay. BF2 is a great mix of realism and arcade. Very addicting!!! A couple have patches have come out since it's initial release. Most of the maps are very balanced. You can get owned by air superiority very easy on the more open, flat maps. It can be very face paced and slow to a crawl sometimes. Definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. A global ranking system lets you check your stats with others around the world.

Graphics on a high end system are superb. It does a pretty good job of catering to the lower end systems but takes away all of the eye candy.

Sound is phenominal. Get at least a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 and crank it.

Overall, BF2 is one of the best games of the year perhaps in a long long time. BF2: Special Forces expansion is due to come out in a few weeks, adding more maps and countries.

Warning: This game is more addicting than crack.

This online multiplayer first person action game is great. This first person shooter allows you to operate vehicles, aircraft and watercraft. You can even be the commander of the battle. You start off as a private and move up in rank based on points earned. This game can track your lifetime player stats, game stats , you can also earn medals and awards. And you can chat with squad mates when you join a squad or you can chat with the commander if you're a squad leader. This game is fun! I highly recommend it if you are into games like Halo, Counterstrike, Far Cry and etc. This game takes first person shooters into another level.

Battlefield 2: Game of the Year

Battlefield 2 is, in my opinion, the best game of 2005. Every aspect of the game is amazing. The graphics are mindblowing, the game physics are great, and the player ranking system is awesome! That's something I have never seen before. It makes you try your hardest to play at your highest level. It has a lot of great maps and weapons to choose from. The whole game is just an awesome experience! Buy it! I also suggest buying a headset so that you can talk with your team as you play online. That ads to the game a lot.

You can get an ATI 9550 and the gameplay is fine. You can find one of these cards for $100 or less now.

Be ready to upgrade or suffer a bit

Battlefield 2 is just INSANE for an FPS Game.

In fact, it's more than a First-Person-Shooter because the game nearly DEMANDS that you work as a team mate on a squad..on a team.

Online is the only way to really play this game. Using TeamSpeak, Ventrillo, or the in-game VoIP brings game play to another level altogether.

Single Player is great for honing your skills with the many weapons, Kits, and vehicles.

There is also a "Battle Recorder" which is supposed to allow you to record video of your session. From what Ive read, this particular feature from DICE / EA(?) needs a LOT of work.

The two patches that have been released seem to be feature rich..and big (size), but they each took care of plenty of issues. Responsiveness from DICE seems to be a positive in that they are listening to the ever-growing community.

The game demands a LOT from your machine.
Broadband, the latest video cards, and at LEAST 1GB of ram are prerequisites. You hear me? EA states minimum of 512...but that is just to get the game to RUN. Go 1GB and go big on the video card(s).

I currently have a P4 with 512mb of RDRAM..and I am going to upgrade very, soon. This upgrade will ONLY happen so I can run this game the way it should be run.

(Example: After logging into an ONLINE server..it will take me nearly 2-3 minutes to enter the game.)

This game has not been out that long, but the amount of supporting information, online clans, Strategies, Tips & Tricks, Upgrade papers, tournament sites is just overwhelming.

Obviously, there are many of us who feel the same way.

Great Multiplayer game

First of all, I would recommend getting this game only if you meet the requirements, not the minimum, but the normal ones. If you don't you will get a crappy experience. Next this game is mainly designed to be played online with other people. I say this because there is no campaign mode and the singleplayer maps are very small. As in any game there is always the chance of getting in a server full of a-holes but this should not discourage you from enjoying the game. There's a bigger-than-normal learning curve because the game is very realistic. You cannot go by yourself and expect to win the battle like this, you must group and attack as a unit. You must also practice a lot and learn the secrets of each map, as well as the best strategy for it. In general this is one of the best war themed games in the market.

Not for the casual gamer

If you are a casual gamer like me who is only looking to spend a hour per day playing a game, Battlefield 2 is definitely not for you. As a previous reviewer said, on paper, this game sounds fantastic, but in reality, playing this game will make you want to pull out your hair in frustration.

The game play has a very high learning curve, as you try in vain to learn the numerous elements of the game that you must master before successfully engaging in battle. These include learning to shoot with guns that are somewhat erratic and imprecise in comparison to other pure first person shooter games, and learning to fire missiles by factoring in the time it takes to hit a fast moving object.

Yes, it's all quite a bit to take in the beginning, and it stays that way well into your first week with this game. Unless you commit numerous hours (read 1000s) towards playing this game, you will stay a perennial "noob", and will constantly be taken down by your more experienced opponents in every painful manner imaginable.

And speaking of opponents, a lot of these players will likely have invested enormous amount of time and effort into getting as good as they are. Their figures are reflected in game statistics that can only be described as superfluous in the amount of worthless numbers they contain. If you are an expert gamer who enjoys pouring 1000s of hours into a game that has no relevance outside it's virtual enclosure, and like to obsess about stats that are equally meaningless, then you might enjoy it. For me, however, a week of maddening game play was more than enough to uninstall it and throw it back into the closet.

A fun game plagued by bugs

The average person cannot buy this game and play it at home. A computer technician is the only one with the skills and patience to set up this horribly buggy game and get it to function. I've had this game for 2 days now, and it has repeatedly randomly crashed on me sending me right to the desktop, it has given me a bluescreen once, it has completely frozen my computer and forced me to do a reboot twice, and all this is right after spending hours trying to get it to function in the first place.

After trying to install the game, I go online and it says it cannot connect to the network. So I open the ports in the manual, and it still doesn't work. I had to search around for hours online to find the right ports, because the ones in the manual seem to not be the right ones (I found lots of discrepancies between the manual and online guides). Then there's the 500mb patch download, and then apparently, the game will not work on a user account on a domain, so I had to log in locally, then when I try to play it says my cd-key is not valid. I did a lot of research and this is another stupid bug, I get vague answers about running some cd-key encrypter tool, reinstalling the patch, updating punkbuster, and reinstalling the game, all in the right secret combination mind you, and really, after about 5 hours of frusteration I managed to connect to my first online server and play.

This game has so many bugs I don't even know what to say. What makes this so hard is that the game is also so fun to play. The graphics, vehicles, explosions, and teamwork dynamics are so awesome. But the bugs are so flagrantly horrible that whoever released this game honestly needs to be sued, because this is really ridiculous. So as fun as this game is, just stay away, trust me, its not worth the trouble.

Excellent and addicting game!!

If you enjoy guns, military, shooting, flying, driving fast, explosions - buy this game.

I've logged over 700 hours playing this online, flying choppers, healing wounded, fixing tanks, sniping, doing stunts, and killing over 20,000 other people online 24 hours a day. You can win awards and earn a higher rank. Other people can check your stats to see what you've accomplished.

The maps are HUGE! Very realistic. It will run on your older PC, and make you want newer fast hardware to get the "edge" over your online opponents. You can even download maps, and mods to this game so it never gets old. Lots of add-ons like USA, Euro, and "Special forces". It has simple controls, and is fully adjustable- even has microphone voice ability to command your troops.

Lock and Load soldier!

Still my favourite game EVER!!!

I used to play call of duty and then I got this game and it consumed so much of my time and messed up my wrist with carpal tunnel syndrome, but how I love the game... Anyway I would play it for a couple of months then sell it when it intruded too much on my regular life, ha ha then buy it again.
