Simply the best

This was simply the best stragety sci-fi game ever made. The research, building on planets, customizing ships, and turn based gameplay (and battles) was the most enrapturing system I've ever played. I can't praise this game enough, I still play it over and over today. A gem from the time when computers were still new and awe inspiring for me.

One of the best strategy games ever created.

I owned this game years ago. i have played many others like it but they never really filled the void that this game left behind. I own alot of strategy games and this one is my favorite. Fighters, Planet Destroyers, huge Tech tree. I really wished they would have expanded on it. I couldnt wait for MOO3 and then it turned out to be a bust. Its a great game and must have.

Do you realize how many games have tried to copy MOO 2?

I'm guessing that MOO 2 is 10 years or older now and in my opinion still has not been surpassed or even equaled and that is despite how many others have copied or attempted to improve on MOO 2. Even MOO 3 failed miserably in its attempt to improve on MOO 2. I remember when I first heard that MOO 3 was coming out and thought to myself "Why? To be better than MOO 2 it would have to be the greatest game ever created by man". There have been literally dozens of games that have tried to do better and still have not. MOO 2 is so good that even the dated graphics become a non-issue in short time for new players. Great games never die!

This game gave me many hours of satisfying game play. The graphics are old, but the game is better than many being released today. It is better than it's successor, MOO 3. Make sure to download the patch. It helps game play and makes the races a little more fair. Yes, the computer does cheat, but only to keep things competitive. Get this game and enjoy.

One of the best games ever

I played this game so much that the CD actually cracked while in my drive (I didn't even know that could happen). A great balance of building and killing. While the tactical combat is fun most of the time, there is an auto feature (which is a great asset). I wish the AI was better but, overall, it's the best space-game I've ever seen.

The one game that is always on my hard drive.

Many games have come and gone off my hard drive. Sim City, Star Command, Warhammer, Baldur's Gate were all played, loved and finally forgotten. But there is one game that has stayed on my hard drive for the better part of 10 years. That game is Master or Orion II (MOO2).

MOO2 is a turn based strategy game. The player is rules a galactic civilization with fleets to maintain, planets to govern and technology to research. The player competes with up to 7 other civilizations for resources and leadership of the galxay. Dealing with the other civilizations can be done through diplomacy, war or more likely a combination of the two. There is an eigth race called the Anatarians that randomly appear and raid planets. Dealing with them is one of the hardest and funnest elements of the game.

MOO2 has a very simple interface and I found it had a very easy learning curve. It is possible to have a hundred worlds under your control but micro management is not necessary as you can let the computer manage any number of your worlds for you. The ship to ship combat is also very fun and if you play long enough the battles can be huge.

The graphics are a bit dated as the game is now about 10 years old, but they were well done for the time and hold my interest still. MOO2's greatest virtues are its playability and its replay value. This is the type of strategy game that will hold your attention for hours. I have started games early in the morning and before I know it it is dark outside. I've burned entire days with this video game. The replay value is tremendous. No two games are ever the same, you can play differnet races (even customize races), start at different tech levels or even different size galaxies. Sky is the limit.

If you can get your hands on a copy of this game you will not be sorry. This game has my highest recommendation.

One of the Best Strategy Games of All Time

Amazing...I still can't get over that out of the 70+ reviews, this game gets an *average* of 5 stars -- incredible, and deserved.

I remember when this game came out, I would simply turn off the lights and enjoy this game in pitch-black. I know a lot of people associate that kind of behaviour with Doom3 or Silent Hill these days, but I guess it was a simpler time way back in the 90's. Trust me, you won't have any reason to jump out of your chair (unlike MoO3). The ease, simplicity, and enjoyability with which the game designers innundate you with what you need to know to play this game is probably one of the most relaxing and enjoyable experiences I've ever had with a computer. I'm glad that Civ IV kept that spirit intact as well.

Buy this game - I bought it at full price when it came out, and got a second copy at nearly that price when my original got scratched. It's a steal in the bargain bin!

Classic Games are still good.

Such an excellent classic game - oO Out of date graphics are completely irrelevant to the fun gameplay. This thing is all about the design and gameplay - man - i can't believe i scored it on Amazon for just 4 bucks too - lol. I get to take home any new game for free i like at the game company i work at - but this old title will show up in my play list whenever i get bored with the new stuff out there.
And for 4 bucks! Cummon - you can't beat that! LOL. I spent more at Starbucks this morning.

This game is wonderful. You can read it in all of those reviews. But what makes this game a truly masterpiece is it's user interface. EVERY element of the screen has a help window available through right mouse click. There is also a huge user guidebook with everything described. MASTERPIECE!
I recommend it for Computer Science students to see how a good UI should look like and how should it work.
