Master of Orion was one of me and my friend's favorite games. And when 2 came out we went right out and got it. Unfortuanately I lost contact with that friend and haven't played MOO in years... and plan on buying it tomorrow. The game is great. It is like Heroes of Might and magic. A turn based strategy game where you take bases. But the bases are planetary systems and you get to control the people and make armadas. You even get to make your own races with special abilities and the ability to live in specific habitats better. It is defidently they best in it's class.

Outstanding game that was based on the still hugely popular VGA-PLANETS PBEM game that has over 60,000 registered users, the authors of MOO2 freely admited they played vgaplanets and also admited in a CGW interview that they consulted Tim Wisserman and he didn't see a conflect since his game was built as a true multiplayer game whereas MOO2 used AI. Still..very enjoyable but not at the level of vgaplanets strategy wise or anywhere near as customizable but still fun.

I keep looking for this game. Now that I found it I can't wait to play it again. I played this game when it was made for Atari computer systems. Then I found it again in 1996 played it for a few years the looked for the updated version saw MOO2 and didn't have a computer system then the so I waited. Now I stumble accross MOO2 trying to find something close. I just hope it works on Me systems. I like the MAX also, but haven't found it for Me system yet either. Hope to play it soon again!! ... ...

Great game! it's fun to play over and over again.

Do you realize how many games have tried to copy MOO 2?

I'm guessing that MOO 2 is 10 years or older now and in my opinion still has not been surpassed or even equaled and that is despite how many others have copied or attempted to improve on MOO 2. Even MOO 3 failed miserably in its attempt to improve on MOO 2. I remember when I first heard that MOO 3 was coming out and thought to myself "Why? To be better than MOO 2 it would have to be the greatest game ever created by man". There have been literally dozens of games that have tried to do better and still have not. MOO 2 is so good that even the dated graphics become a non-issue in short time for new players. Great games never die!

A Cult Classic!

Considered by many to be one of the best games of all time, MOO2 has an extensive cult following in many gaming circles. While the multiplayer option should be considered cumbersome at best, it still carries servers on many gaming networks, and you can almost always find two or three folks to play. I would personally suggest a null-modem cable for head-to-head battles via laptop.

I have personally spent more hours playing this game than all of Blizzard, Bungee, and Microsoft titles combined (which is quite a feat). Look forward to MOO3, which is scheduled for release early 2002 by Quicksilver Software, and promises to uphold the high standards of this series.

This game is really fun . Even though I'm only 12, this game was easy enough to understand after a couple weeks of practice. The fighting is awesome, even though it can get kinda annoying if you find Orion at the very begining and the Guardian kills you in. Overall, this game is great!!!!!

A strategy must-have

I've owned this game for three years and it's still one of my favorites. Forget the complicated explanations the other dedicated fans can give you, it all boils down to two ever important words: replay value. This ranks right up there with SimCity, StarCraft, and Civilization as one of the most-replayable games to date, a strategy must have. I highly reccomend this game to audiences of all ages, it is a timeless classic that justly deserves to be played over and over again.
