One of the best even with its age.

Master of Orion 2 is a shining example of what is lacking in the more recent strategy games: Fun. Because this game has fun in spades, from the simple interface to the multiple choices for races to the grand scale combat and mysterious, implaccable antarans. You can choose whatever path to follow, from alliances to total destruction. And have a blast doing so. It may not be flashy, but replay value is more important than graphics in my book. Highly, highly recommended.

this is my favorite space game. it's addictive. it allows you to build a space empire; control a fleet; encounter other races and interact with them. It's an old game but of high quality. i love exploring new worlds, and engaging in the space combat. this one is way better than master of orion 3.

A classic game

This game is a classic. I bought this game about 6 years ago and is definitly one of my favorites. While some of the newer games have great graphics want they sometimes lack is a infinite possiablities that give the gamer a large amount of control. The does not overwhelm one with millions of options though. This game is good for the options over galaxy size/content/life, constuction of ones race over about 30 traits, the research options, abilty to board and take over ships, multiple ways for the galaxy to be yours, random encounters with space monsters with mulitple random effects, and also leaders to assign both planets and ships. This game contains more then what I have mentioned, but space doesn't not allow me to tell all. I have never talked to anyone who did not enjoy this game if they liked good stratagy games.

Possibly the Best 4-X Game of All Time

I think the fact that I still play this game 10 years later says it all. Master of Orion II (MOO2) may be the best 4-X (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) game I've ever played -- and that includes the other heavy hitter in this category, Civilization.

MOO2 is endlessly replayable. In addition to the numerous standard alien races (all of which you can play), there are nearly limitless combinations of custom races you can make. This alone allows you to challenge yourself over and over. Try a crippled race with multiple penalties and no bonuses. Or try taking bonuses you don't usually like.

And the ship-building! This could be a game in an of itself. Everything is customizable, from the size of ship, to its armament, even down to its name. You can concentrate on massive, Death Star-like constructs, or field a fleet of easily replaceable "missile boats". Or perhaps you prefer Wing Commander-style carrier-based combat? MOO2 can handle that as well (although you don't get to control the individual fighters, just the capital ships).

Add in the random events, various galaxy sizes, and Antaran attacks, and you have a game that never fails to entertain. MOO2 will still be on my hard drive 10 years from now.

In my two decades on this planet I've yet to find another game that captures the glory, effort, and frustration of building a galactic empire as well as Master of Orion II. Being an insanely devoted sci-fi fan I love this game on every level. It is my belief that this game is a must for the gaming collection of any sci-fi nut or strategy lover.

This game rocks!

This is one of my all-time favorite strategy games! There are only a couple of games that I have gone back after I'd won the game and played countless more times. MOO2 is one of them. Yes it has been out awhile, but it is a classic. The only thing that I wish was different in MOO2 was the combat sequences. This is the only area of the game which is inferior to the original. But other then that, PLAY THIS GAME!

One of the best turn-based strategy games ever!

I've owned this game since the first day it came out. I've run it on every windows OS and had little to no problems (post-patch). It's a very stable and well constructed game that someone put good solid programming into.

As for gameplay, what else can I say... If you love, or even like, turn-based strategy games and wish to rule the universe, this game is a MUST HAVE! No game library should be without it!

FYI - Don't waste your time with MOO 3, they ruined it. They took a perfectly manageable gaming engine and turned it into a non-manageble nightmare.

Master of orion 2 takes Civilization to space. The multitude of races and the option to customize a race keeps the game from getting old. Design ships, hire leaders and officers, build up your planets, use diplomacy with other races, advance your technology, and build an armada to crush your enimies. This is my personal all time favorite game and I can't wait until Master of Orion 3 comes out.

Great Game 4 the Strategy-genre lovers and others as well!

When I first got Master of Orion 2 , out of the box and into my computer , (Which at sometimes can be slow) I had a very hard time to install it and for a week or two it was sitting there on my desk waiting for me to give it another shot at installation and so I did and after yelling a few curses' to myself I finally got it installed! Alas , the intro was great and as I saw the opening sequence I was in awe. As I started gameplay I learned you could choose from thirteen different races and even create your own (of course with it's own set of pros and cons).
As I embarked for galaxy domination it was a little tough to figure it out but I soon got the hang of it and so there I was with an ultimate fleet and almost complete control of the galaxy when my opponent race then devoloped better technology and wiped me out...
So... I started over with a new race and hot dog I won!!!
Too easy so I set it at a different difficulty and it was a lot harder.
In this game you can do almost anything from, hiring officals , trading with other races , making treaties , building great cities , waging war and taking over an opponent's star system(he , he , he). You can do it all in this game.
A few setbacks are poor graphics , a little complex for the younger ages and easy overpowerment and a slow and brutal installation process.
Overall I was addicted for a couple month's and great if you love strategy's and have patience!!!

For years I have been playing computer games, they come, they go, and i forget about many of the ones i had played at one time or another, but one game has stuck with me to the point of making me purchace it again. That game is master of orion 2. Not only is it perhaps one of the most interactive games out there, with so many options, it is one of the most challenging games that can keep you entertained forever, for, the possobilities are endless. Anyone who wants a game worth buying, worth paying the 50 bucks other games sell for, buy this one. One draw back- no graphics, but you will be having so much fun with this game you wont even think about the graphics. I cant wait untill master of orion 3 comes out.
