Nice graphics. Bit corny at times, but that doesnt matter. Great setting, plot and characters. Nice puzzles. However... the dialogue is endless! I read the laudatory reviews and thought... 'well this games a safe bet'.
Now I have given up because I cant take it any more!!!
At one stage I think I sat in front of the screen for 20 minutes just listening to a single conversation... and it was boring as hell. What was going through the game designers' minds???
Oh....My......God......

I just wanted the talking to end. The dialogue is inane and endless and you have to talk to everyone and hear absolutely everything they have to say to progress in the game. I personally didn't like any of the characters and found April, the main character, particularly annoying and perhaps one of the most bland and corny characters ever created. The puzzles were mostly simple and action nonexistent, so all in all, bored as hell. The only plus would be graphically speaking. The worlds are rendered beautifully, but you have to go back and forth through them so much, even that wears on you.
This truly IS the longest journey

As April Ryan, you will meet a variety of characters in this game. The graphics are great (though a little jerky and pixilated on my machine), the scenery is magnificent, and the story is interesting. The problem: the conversations that April has with the many people and creatures she meets in this story go on, and on, and on, and well, you get the point. I read Leo's review of the game (after I quit playing it) and agree one hundred percent. I didn't try the time skipping strategy, though, because the instructions in the game book cautioned against it. What a sucker! Overall, the game was good, IF you have the time and interest to sit in front of the computer for several hours at a stretch. My wife was often upset with me because you can't stop in the middle of one of the dialog sessions to save the game and turn off the computer. People rave about this game, but I found an even better one called Sanitarium (I'm not sure you can still get it though). If you can get your hands on it, buy it, it is the best.

I ordered this game and was anticipating it's arrival. However when I attempted to install it I kept getting "error" messages saying that "XXXX\xxx\00\00\xarc data could not be moved" and other similar messages. Thinking my CD-R could be dirty I cleaned it thoroughly but kept getting the same message. Attempts to install in another similar system gave the same messages. The replacement arrived and, again, I kept getting error messages stating data could not be moved. I am now in the process of getting a third copy. We'll see how it works. In both instances I wrote to FunCom's tech support and have never received any reply as of 10/9/01. I would be hesitant to order this game until the mfr. corrects the defective product.

This is not a game. It is a soap opera with dialogue taking up all of the game playing time. Granted, it is very well done, but I am at chapter 6 wondering if I have the patience to continue on through with the overly repetitive nature of the "talking THREADS" required in order to proceed to the next 'scene'. This is really a movie, with the pretense of being an interactive game. Granted, it is a well-done computer mouse click movie, but why pretend it is a game?
To be fair, I am male, so nonstop chatting about everything I see is not something that entertains me. I guess this is a 'chick flick' sort of ?game?.
If you love to hear people blather on and on and on and on and on and on and on ad nauseum with nothing happening in between, this is for you. If you insist on playing, do yourself a favor and turn on subtitles. That way you can speed read and right mouse click past the flood of mindless chatter.
I feel like giving this one star due to the absolutely ridiculous amount of dialogue one must plod through (fully 99% of the 'pretend game' play) but I will be generous and give it 1 extra star for at least being creative. But I still insist this is NOT really a game, but a movie.
I give this the "Black Dahlia" award, given to the game that wastes so much time on plot and chat threads that one gets eventually frustrated and quits playing because there is really nothing for the "player" to do other than listen to dialogue. What a shame we must even spend the energy to "click" to hear the next sentence.
Most Awesome Adventure Game Ever!

Amazing storyline, amazing graphics, point & click interface. The Longest Journey will seem short simply because it's sooooo good.
