Diablo is a sweet RPG game with a terrifing setting. In this game, you play a brave knight who goes down to the catacombs and fight evil satan-like demonic creatures. This game is not for the seven year olds or the younger. So, if you kids at home are reading this review, don't ignore this because let me tell you, this game will honestly scare you. This game is bloody because you cut off arms, and, not to mention, in one quest, you find a guy sitting in a pool of blood. It is also somewhat disturbing because of the hell-like settings after you enter the under world.
One of the best I've seen of a new game series.

The interactions between your character (you can chose between three types) and the enemies/allies is very funny and entertaining at times. I got a bit bored with having to go back and forth between levels at times -- the goat guy and his special item isn't really worth going back for. Clearly the ending of the game is set up for continuation of the basic world/plot. I was anxiously awaiting the next edition after I won this game a few times. With it had a balance of male to female characters though.
A Classic RPG!

Diablo is the first computer-based RPG that I played and by far defined what I expect in such a game. The gothic fantasy is dark and makes you feel as though you are truely fighting evil. I remember that I became very attached to my character and always wanted to develop it further. The story is decent, but what makes it is battle.net (which was introduced with this game). I spent many hours of my ninth grade year (four years ago) playing this game at night online with my friend. We would adventure for hours just killing all the evil foes in our way. It can seem repetitive and very much hack-and-slash, but still, it is very, very addictive. Especially since this game is now so [inexpensive], I would suggest it as a good buy for someone with many hours to spend developing a character.
A Dark Classic

I consider Diablo to be a dungeon, evil-full, quest classic game. There are 3 things an all-star game must have: story, environment and music and Diablo has all of these. Diablo is set up on an mid-age kind of place with music you just can't get rid of. Depending on the mood of the dungeon you are in, there's just the perfect kind of music and monsters combining and making your play-experience more addictive. There's also diferent kinds of quests, so if you've already finished one time, you can play it again and find different ones and also monsters and special wepons depending also on the type of hero you play. To understand the future of RPG, future game playing you must have played this olddie first. Even now, I don't have any dificulty playing it with all the new games we have, I just can't get rid of it.
how can such a game be any good?

on first appearance, here is a game where the characters are microscopic, where the game seems to be played on a tabletop, has no perspective, where the characters go around pitty-pat, and is overcomplicated. also, the game is old and the textures are grainy. i bought it because it was a "classic" and was [inexpensive] but it sat around for a while because of the above reasons. once i started it , though, it occupied all my free time until i finished. totally engrossing. gotta get those monsters and get to the next level for more monsters and new, more powerful, anti monster weapons. this game has been well reviewed, so no play description is necessary, only that the last level (16) did get a little tedious, and the big red monster was not hard to kill. no puzzles are presented. in summary, this game deserves its excellent reputation and is a super bargain. an extra star for being available for mac.
Inexpensive and addictive

Diablo is a challenging and addictive dungeon and dragons type role-playing adventure. This is the first of the series, and predates Diablo II. When I saw it on the shelf, I snatched it up. I mean, ($$$)for a legendary game? For less than the cost of a movie you can a lot more fun.
You take on the role of a wizard, warrior, or rouge and start venturing into the dungeon. Various quests are assigned randomly, which you complete to gain experience and unique weaponry. As a result, you can play it several times (with different characters) and the game is different each time.
Unfortunately, sometimes it devolves into a simple hack and slash adventure. Also, note that there is a learning curve to figuring out what spells do what.
On the whole, this is a fun, gratuitous, addictive, hack and slash game. It is also inexpensive, almost to the point of being a no-brainer purchase.
Simply a Great Game

I was talked into buying this game from a friend of mine. I wasn't sure if I would like it but soon as I started playing it I got addicted. Now Diablo has become like a college craze. This has a great replay value due to Battlenet and it is extemely challenging and a lot of fun.
Its good

this will not be a very helpfull review, but read anyway. This is a very fun game but i gave it 3 stars cuz the graphics were never really that great (especially for today's standards) and multiplayer mode has too many cheaters who upload special weapons from their computers and kill you instead of playing the game. Its a great deal at nine bucks though.
Diablo is a great game to play

What a wonderful game. As my first experience in the gaming world, I will admit this game is always going to be close to my big ol' gaming heart. Though I have now moved on to other games, this one will still be an old fav. How can you not battling bad guys named "The Butcher"? :)
