After the success of Blizzard's RTS games, Warcraft and Warcraft II, it was just a matter of time before they would evolve to different genres. The RPG was (and is) one of the most popular types of games out there. It seemed fitting to make a game like this, but does it play well? Is it worth it?
The game has a simple premise, to journey to the depths of a labyrinth and kill the King of Terror, Diablo. Diablo has escaped from the confines of hell and is running amuck through the city of Tristram (sadly, the only city you can explore in the game). Not so surprisingly, it is your job to get rid of him and bring peace to the land. To accomplish this, the game gives you a choice of three classes of characters to choose from: the Warrior, Rouge, or Sorcerer. The storyline is linear, yet remarkably, its premise is actually quite good and has a nice twist at the end. The manual that comes with the game offers a great deal of background to the game's story, and truly shows that a great deal of time was taken into the plot.
Graphics are good, considering that the game was released in 1996. The music is tolerable but can get repetitive at times, and of course you can turn it off if you really don't like it. Control is simple, really too simple; moving your character, attacking with your character, and using spells requires the use of only the mouse. The keyboard is rarely used, turning the game into somewhat of a click-fest.
The repetitive gameplay with the mouse, repetitive music, and the fact that there is nothing truly extraordinary with the game may bore some; although RPG enthusiasts will probably enjoy it the most. Beside the before mentioned problems, the game also has some issues with the multiplayer feature. Although multiplayer through Blizzard's free online service, Battle.net, can be fun, it can also mean a lot of frustration. Due to the game's age, it is no longer supported by Blizzard, meaning that it's a hacker's paradise. From many people altering their character's stats to duping (duplicating) items, the online community for Diablo is in pretty bad shape.
Despite its problems, the game is still a classic and has set the standard for many games today. Randomly generated Quests and randomly generated dungeons each time you play means a great deal of replay value for those who enjoy this type of game. 4/5

To tell you the truth I've never played an RPG before. However everyone in the office insisted that I play this game. So I did. From the first few levels I played I started to get addicted to this.
I started out on Single Player on warrior.
More action, less story is the way of Diablo

If you have not already noticed, Diablo is easily located within Dungeons and Dragons. This is actually a benefit for Diablo, since it has very little story going on. This RPG/action hybrid is nice and it's multiplayer community is huge. Too bad there are millions of cheaters. Just be legit and everyone else will catch on. The game offers lots of fun. Not many complaints though. They are really your choice as to if they're bad or good. Get the game if you want. Not a wasted "money".

Diablo is a game that can easily entertain you for months on end. It's incredibly addictive, and you'll probably find yourself playing through it many, many, many times. You'll spend a lot of your time working the statistics of your character, seeing which items will help you the most, or what armor will help you take down a certain enemy. All in all, this is an amazing game anybody can get into, almost everyone will love, and it's one of the most addicting game of all time.

This game is fantastic. I play it non-stop everyday, several hours a day. This game is incredible! The detail in it, the characters, the monsters, the stuff you can find, and everything else all add up to a superb game with good graphics, immense playability, and vever-ending fun.
The multiplayer Battlenet is great, too. Me and a friend get on it all the time and fight to defeat the forces of Darkness and Hell save the land (which appears to me to be Britain[Griswold, Ogden, Gillian, ect...])
You must try this game. You simply must. You won't be dissapointed.
5 Years ago it was a 5 star game, today it is simply quaint.

When I first played this game 5 years ago I was blown away by its reality and detail. It was a RPG brought to exceptionally detailed life. Today's games have left Diablo behind, but I still never did manage to beat it with the Sorceror character who was just too darn weak. Despite its age, and "primitive" technology, this game is still worth its low price because it can provide a couple of weeks of entertainment before it is beaten. Diablo II is definitely worth getting after this one and has lots of terrific add-ons, and the WarChest is a great deal overall.
Great game

...this is definitely one of the best games for the PC. True the sequel is better, but when this game came out almost everyone I knew jumped on it. I just bought it to see what all the fuss was about, and I found out in a second. It took me awhile to actually UNDERSTAND how the game works, and I didn't even go on the multiplayer for awhile because I couldn't understand that either. But now I do and this game is loads of fun, although cheaters in the m-p tend to ruin it sometimes.... so in the end cheaters are still a problem but not a major one. Multiplayer mode is more fun than single-player especially because you can team up on hordes of demons instead of fighting them by yourself. Not only that but players can duplicate their items for you, so you won't have to search around all time for better items like you would in single-player. The graphics and gameplay are extremely superb in this game, and the music and sound as well. ... GET THIS GAME AS WELL AS THE SECOND ONE ASAP!
