Just got back from the Metreon where LucasArt's had at the launch party StarFighter. One word sums it up this game. Stunning. Everyone on the team should be proud of what they have made. Explosions, backgrounds, light effects are simply amazing. And this is just looking over everyone's shoulders. There's so much detail flying around space, canyons, hangers. The line to try it stretched out the door so I didn't get my time at the controller. However, just being at the rollout event almost made up for it. Camera's were everywhere capturing the moment. Guys dressed like StarWars characters walked around. And the LucasArts people that made the game were there answering questions and signing autographs. While in the background you could hear that so fimiliar sound track playing from the StarFighter game. The only thing that was disappointing about was not being able to take a copy home with me. Oh well, my copy is on it's way.

Just plain awsome

This game is just plain beautiful! The graphics are the best I've seen on ps2, or on any console. The great story driven game will make it hard to push the power button. The levels are just amazing. If you haven't bought this game your making a huge mistake. I personaly naver cared for x-Wing or N64's RS, but this one brought both together making the best Star Wars game ever. Not to mention the ships. Each ship is different, and with its own different control and weapons. This is a must have. If your like me with a few bucks in his pocket and haven't bought a game in a while, this is the one to get.

When it comes to Star Wars games, I've always been more of a PC gamer. X-Wing and Tie-Fighter were awesome games that allowed great control over your ship. Not console game ever came close to this until now. The controls for the game are excellent. The left thumb controls the nose and the right thumb controls the roll. Targeting and weapons are excellent. One of the nice touches is the zoom feature. In X-wing, you were always trying to shoot some spec in the distance. Here, you can zoom in on your target and gun them down from a short distance. The graphics are incredible here as well. The explosions are incredible and the lighting effects when your lasers fire are awesome. The familiar William's score hums in the background. All in all this is most definitely a must buy for any PS2 gamers.

Finally A Good Reason To Own A PS2

There haven't been many killer games so far for PS2 but Starfighter is a good start. The obvious things to note are of course the stunning graphics and musical score. The game makes use of John Williams' Episode I pieces as well as a few older ones. The music for each level fits the mission and does a great job really getting you into the action. As far as visuals go well screen shots don't do this game justice. It looks absolutely fantastic in motion. Even if the framerate drops a few times and gets a little choppy it's barely noticeable. Not to mention the infamous 'jags' problem is nowhere in sight either.

The control takes some getting used to but after awhile it becomes second nature. The zoom-in targeting feature is a real plus but a map or a radar of some kind might have been nice. The missions themselves offer a nice variety and the difficulty level is adjustable. The best part about the missions is replaying them in order to earn medals and unlock all the great bonus missions they tossed in (including a two-player mode).

All in all, Lucasarts has delivered a great game that's a real turnaround from their last few Star Wars games. If you like SW or flight-combat or maybe just want a game that makes you happy you bought a PS2 then you can't go wrong with Starfighter.

The best Star Wars Game Yet

I have played just about every Star Wars Game that was put out (first on Nintendo, then Playstation, now Playstation2). Most of them were enjoyable, but "Star Wars: Starfighter" (the latest game out of the series made for the PS2 system) beats them all. With Lucas Arts utalizing the PS2 platform, the graphics are almost realistic. For example, when you're flying through the canyons, it actually looks like they are rock you're flying past, and the characters look like something, with their crisp clean round shapes. While it is easy to get stuck upside down while in flight, it is just as easy to correct it by toggling the right-stick, OR it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the battle if you are flying in an inverted position. The story, while it falls parallel to the timeline of Episode one, is not restricted to the events of Episode One, but rather goes off on its own story. Which is good, and is only locical to think that there are other events that take place during that time.A player can play all the way through this game in just over two hours (maybe less), so you don't have to play it in several sittings and lose track of what has happened before, but in just one or two sittings. The only BAD thing about the game is sometimes if your not careful, you can get trapped under the AAT (the ground tanks) which can knock out your shields REALLY fast. All in all I highly reccoment this game for avid Star Wars fans and even if you've never seen a Star Wars movie, it won't take away from the enjoyment of the game.

Being a huge, huge fan of Star Wars and video games, hearing that there was a new space sim coming from Lucasarts immediately sparked my interest. Let me say that this game does indeed rock. Every aspect of it is amazing, from the graphics to the control. You'll find yourself in the midst of a huge intergalactic free-for-all with literally 50 ships going in every direction with no slowdown. However, there are some downsides. While slowdown is not much of an issue in space, it does occur in the surface missions. But, it's never bad enough to impare gameplay. Another problem is the length of the game. I beat the entire game in a day and a half on medium difficulty, but fortunately Lucasarts remedied this problem by adding 8 bonus missions which can only be accessed by receiving certain medals on specific missions. So, whether you're a Star Wars fan or not you'll love this game. Starfighter is the best title currently available for the PS2. Now, I'm out of here. Must go play.

Stunning graphics, but...

The graphics and movement on this title lived up to the hype. The only drawback I would offer would be the at-times unclearness of your objective. Due to the incredible graphics and movement, some missions are difficult to remain focused on your targets. Very possible I am splitting hairs here. Regardless, the game overall is definately a must buy, and any gamer will enjoy.

Well I just got back form my local EB with Starfighter in tow. Put it in my playstation and was blown away. I didn't stop playing it for 4 hrs. It is definetly the best platform based star wars title ever and possibly the best ps2 game so far. Smooth graphics, killer sound, amazing explosions, and really simple easy-to-learn controls it definetly deserves a 5 star rating. It also has a great story line where you follow three new and original characters complete with there own ships and there own problems with the trade federation. It is really a great game and well worth 50 bucks. I really can't say enough about this game except you need to go and try it for yourself.

Don't just sit there!
