Great sound and graphics...needs improvement

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 1

First thing that I noticed about the game is the wonderful graphics and sound. Everything flows seamlessly. Controls are good although the targeting system can be a little tricky. One drawback to the game is the boundaries. There is nothing more irritating than having your ship suddenly move you off course to keep you in the boundary especially while chasing enemy planes. This game is pretty challangeing but, it could have some more missions as well as a multiplayer without having to beat the game first. I enjoyed having more than one character to choose from as well as the excellent movie scenes.

Overall, You should rent this game before buying.

Could Be Better

This game is pretty cool and has great graphics but you onlyget to fly three ships (unless you have codes, then you can fly DarthMauls infultrater), and most of the levels are not that complex, butit's still a good game. Regardless of what you may have heard, thecontrols are fine and the game has a few bonus levels and twomultiplayer missions to unlock. The following are some good pointsabout the game: great graphics, good action, several different kindsof levels including bonus levels, fun to play, even after you beat it,and if you can unlock it, Darth Mauls infultrater rocks. So over all Iwould say this game is good but could be better...

Great game but not Perfect

Let me start off by saying this game was a blast to play. It's a lot of fun and a great 3d shooter for the PS2. The game can be fairly difficult at times but doable enough not to be overwhelming. The space fights will bring back plenty of memories of the X-wing and Tie-Fighter games if you've played those on the PC. There are some quirks though that deserve mention:

Controls: The controls are truly splendid once you've figured them out. However, figuring them out is not that intuitive. The left analog stick points the nose of your craft. The right analog stick controls the yaw (rotates your craft around the axis of the nose). It takes time to get used to (but truly gives you a great ability to control the ship if you can master it). Not an easy feat to learn and if you have problems with motion sickness, the land missions might give you problems. Those who are very familiar with the PC Stars Wars fighter games will likely be dissapointed with the lack of control over some aspects of the ship (unable to control where power goes in the ship - shields, engine, lasers, etc., unable to "match speeds" with vessels in combat) but what do you expect when using a control pad with 14 buttons and 2 sticks instead of a full keyboard and a joystick.

Graphics: Overall, the graphics are quite good, but I experienced some problems with objects disappearing at times. On the last level, I was trapped inside a enemy base for a long time because I thought I had flown outside the ship, but in fact, the game had made some of the walls disappear and I was still stuck inside of it (but could see space, planets, etc.) After a half hour of banging into an invisible wall, I backtracked and found another route and got to space where I wanted to be. This was the most disappointing aspect of the game.

Boundaries: I see a lot of complaints about this on the board. Yes, the boundaries can be annoying because your ship gets bounced back from them. However, if you're used to playing 3d shooters (particularly on a console) boundaries are a fairly common thing. What point would the canyon race be if boundaries didn't restrict you to fly in the canyon instead of just flying way up over it?

overall, this is a very good game. The 3 ships do have distinct feels and the 2 hidden ships and bonus levels are fun as well.

Best StarWars Fight Sim Yet!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

I am a HUGE SW fan i have every flight sim since Xwing and this one is clearly the best! The graphis and gameplay options make it a truely awesome gaming experience! The video cut-scenes and storyline are thrilling! The cut-scenes are as close as they get to the real thing or perhaps EVEN BETER! The sound-effects also makes the expericence even more thrilling! And like the computer flight-sims you are given a command list for your wingmen. As you play through the game you will enounter beatufil maps from Nabbo to Space. The best part of the game is the last level where you take on the droid control ship orberting Nabbo. The graphis are out of this world! The main point of this game is to shoot suff up while you listen to StarWars music play. The bouns missions also give you a challenge to test yourself with. If your a Star Wars fan get this game you will not be dissapointed. If your not a Star Wars fan and dont have Playsation 2 what are you waiting for? Get a PS2 and get this game! And if your still not a Star Wars fan something is seriously something wrong with you. So click on the little icon that says "Add to Shopping Cart" right no and get this game! You will love it!!!!

Fantastic game but a little short

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 1

The game starts out very slowly but heats up after the 3rd or 4th mission. After that, it's a non-stop rollercoaster of Star Wars mayhem! You will actually feel like you're in the Star Wars universe. The battles are intense, with an incredible amount of enemies onscreen at once.

The missions are actually quite long, most lasting over seven to eight minutes. This can be a hinderance in some cases, for the levels start out easy, become insanely difficult at the end, thus forcing you to start from the beginning each time you die.

The control over the ship is intuitive. The voice acting is ranges from satisfactory to downright outstanding. The movie scenes border on adequate to slightly sub-par.

Star Wars fans should buy this right now, all others should rent it immediately. It's just not quite long enough to warrant a purchase for nonfans of the series.

Fun, Fast, an addictive, but just too short.

To start it off, the graphics of this game really proove your using of 300 bucks to buy a Playstation 2. You will literally want to play the levels over and over again. Along with posotive ratings, there are a lot of downsides: A.The game is simply too short, even when you unlock the other levels and airplanes, you'll say to yourself, "Why did I spend all that time just to do that?" and reason B, Multi-player levels aren't nearly as good as other classic games such as Tekken and Fifa 2001. Finally C, the plot really isn't what I expected from Lucas Arts. The plot is too original and too plain. I beat the game in a day, thank god i rented it. Of course, I always rent the games before purchasing them anyhow. The game was fun while it lasted, but it wasn't enough. I would reccomend this to you if you enjoyed trying to unlock secrets by beating other challenges throughout the levels.

Great Game,But It Could Be Better

Star Wars:Starfighter is a good game, but it could be better. One of it's greatest flaws is that the game is WAY,WAY too short.Yeah, yeah,it might be fourteen levels long, but most of the bonus goals want you to finish the level in four minutes.Four minutes! And I'm not saying that thats hard.On most levels I finish within three to four minutes! The longest levels are the last two levels, but they are only about ten minutes long each. That means only about an hour and a half of game time(and that's with all the cinimas!). Another flaw is the non-consistincy in difficulty. The first level is a proving ground that let's you get used to the controls and stuff, and then in the second level your protecting the Queen, which is no easy feat. Other then those two problems the game is great. It's graphics are great, and it is a great Star Wars simulator.

Hey, people read this OK!

This game is the bomb, do you know why? Well if you don't play it, rent it, or buy it. I'll say this game is the best game I've played so far, because the levels are awesome. Not just that, they let you choose how hard you want the mission to be, for example: Easy, Medium, or Hard. The game is cool because the missions are at space, on planets(day & night). You could also have lots of different ships that you haven't seen. I like when theres an enemy in a far distance, because you could use the zoom in button and see him closer even when he is far away.

Another great Lucas Arts title, but...

This is a great game! Original story line, intuitive playability, beautiful graphics, and well thought out animation sequences. The only gripe I've got is the same I've got with all my other Lucas Arts titles (Rogue Squadron, Tie Fighter, Shadows of the Empire) NO MULTIPLAYER!! Why can't we dogfight with a friend, or make the attack on the droid control ship with a wingman? If any Lucas Arts producers are reading this, there is still time for RS II, or the upcoming titles for the gamecube. Please include multiplayer (dare I hope for online play?) on future titles.

Awesome game

This game truly captures the action and elegance all associated with Star Wars Episode I. The game graphics being some of the first that I ever saw for playstation II were spectacular in their own right and to this day after having owned a PS II for several months now, I still have yet to see graphics that match the real thing this closely. And then the gameplay is just as vivid as the actual graphics themselves. Seeminly endless amounts of enemies namely droid starfighters and scarabs are hitting you from all angles making this game a true challenge for the novice and even though I have beaten most of the game on the hard setting now it still does not let up. The farther that you progress into the campaign you are also rewarded with bonus missions that just add to the all around scenario which allow you at first to only pilot the ship it dictates, however later upon drawing close to completion, you are able to make use of any ship you desire including the famed Sith Infiltrator. There are many fun hours in store for you if you plan to by this. That's my personal guarantee.
