I love it...

Just bought this few days ago. I love the graphics and the way game controll system works. The story is fairly simple and easy to understand and follow (at least for now... ;p). To me, I have a feeling while I play the game. It's like it's my game story since I can create the town the way I want and..... just play it and you will see.

After 5 minutes of playing this game I turned it of in disgust, as you had to drink water every 30 seconds, or Toan would die. I later got back to playing it and found it to be bearable, but the dungeons are sooo repetitive. Find key, drink water, find atla, over and over again and again. Where's the challange?

Don't touch this game!

OK i was really excited by this game. I couldn't wait for it to come out. it looked neat. it looked fun. Man, was i wrong. this game is awful. The graphics are ok, but not up to PS2 power. (Dreamcast btw is a much better system, just so ya know) the opening is WAY too long plus unimpressive. (though the best part was when that genie ate that guy) The dungeons are boring. it seemed like the same thing over and over and over. you go through the dubgeons looking for pieces of Atla which brings us to GEORAMA (for some reason i like that name) in the beginning of the game, the world (towns actually) is destroyed but before that happens some Fairy king (who looks incredibly stupid) sealed all the pieces of the towns in Atla- these things that look like deku nuts that contain people, houses, trees, rivers, etc. now supposedly the towns are fully customizable. that isn't true. you have to get request from the town people and put there houses where ya want and if you do you might get something. So when you get 100% the towns are going to look more or less alike. Georama is boring. and also, the characters are dumb. Now for the good. The music. I think the music is really good and that's all i have good to say about it. Don't buy this game. buy something good.

Sub-par graphics?? What are good graphics to you guys?? :-P

This game had EXCELLENT graphics, a unique intuitive gameplay design, and great music! The graphics were anything but subpar! They were highly colorful and detailed and looked good even upclose! Good character/enemy designing, superb town-building system, and just a fun time on an RPG that the PS2 desperatly needed! Don't miss out on this one!

I'm only half way throught this game and I have loved every minute of it. It is a awesome game with ok graphics. I would recomend this game to anyone who likes role playing games. It is a lot like final fantasy but you do the fighting. I really recomend this game to everyone.

I have the U.S. game!

****x

I've heard a lot of "pre-views" on this site which say the game is only for kids, etc... they couldn't be more wrong!

The graphics are awesome (check out the fires in this game), and the game play is very well done too. I think the character walks too fast when above ground, but this may be settable as I haven't really checked out the whole game yet!

In terms of playability, it's certainly not the easiest game in the world! I haven't noticed any "level-up" yet, and I've gotten through the first three floors in the first dungeon...

secondly, it's not an easy game (as some people were saying)... I'm a roleplayer in terms of console games, which means I'm not always very good at the platforms (though I'm not a complete dunce). In any case, this game reminds me more of Vagrant Story than of Zelda.

It certainly has better graphics than V.S. (it should... PS2), but the story isn't quite as dark...

In terms of the graphics, D.C. does a very good job with peoples bodies, but the necks and heads have little to no movement - on the heads, the mouths move in that "painted on" sense, and the necks are like hinges (for examples of both, check out the dancers in the opening movie).

Talking in the game is limited to speech bubbles only, and the music is pretty good. You need to have the sound on however, as a number of important warnings are by sound (like "your sword is about to break," "you're out of water," or "you're low on life"). I haven't stumbled across any controls for music and sfx volumes yet (hopefully they're in there).

Overall a great game... 4.5 stars (credit taken off for the people gfx)! I'll be playing more of it tonight!

Do you remember "The Secret of Mana"?

Do any of you gamers remember a much beloved game, "The Secret of Mana"? Well, "Dark Cloud" reminds me of Square's RPG about the Mana Tree and its secret powers. The music, the simple graphics, the overall quest, and the villages all conspire and bring back fond memories of the many hours I spent playing "The Secret of Mana". Dark Cloud, however, is much more. You get some "Sim City" aspects, RPG aspects, and action aspects all in one game. It truly is a unique game and is highlighted by the fact that you can easily understand all the aspects of the game with very little effort. It's one of those games that you don't have to spend a few hours trying out to get the hang of it: how refreshing. Although I understand the comments from others about the "repetitive dungeons", a hallmark of RPG play is roaming around to "build up" your characters, their abilities, and arsenal. It's no different here: the focus is simple and fun gameplay uninterrupted by long cinematic sequences to spoon-feed you the plot or characters' backgrounds. At the "PlayStation Greatest Hits" price, "Dark Cloud" is a silver lining.

This is an awesome rpg for the playstation 2 system. Its very hard, but fun. If you like any combat and attempting to rescue strange worlds, this is a great game. Im in Queens now, and its only getting better. If you like rpgs with pretty darn good graphics, shut up and buy it.

Quite possibly will have its own series

Some may find the concept of dungeon fighting, weapon building and town reconstruction a bit repetitive after the 2nd or 3rd town, but I loved this game. Your enemies have to be attacked uniquely by their individual vulnerabilities, and each ally that joins you has their own abilities. (no mages or wizards in this game, though.) You have to get the towns properly assembled by the requests of all the townspeople, and you have to collect all the pieces of the town to begin with! This game has already spawned a sequel; I hope it continues in the same vein as Zelda and Final Fantasy.

I thought that this game was really fun and entertianing. At first, I was a little skepitical about a game were you go to different worlds and rebuild them, but it proved to be quite amusing to see what happened after I rebuilt a city, house, ect. So I recomend this game to anyone.
