extermely overrated game

I wasted my money after reading all the positive reviews for this game, thinking it would be an excellent dungeon exploration game like the far superior King's Field.

Oh god I was wrong. First, all dungeons are random generated. Although it may look like a good idea, making lots of variety in the game, it makes it totally boring. Being random generated, the maps are ultra simple, so you can forget all your dreams of dungeon exploration. They have no originality, it's always "[get]all monsters, get all treasure and key to the next level." They try to make variations, like zones where you can just use one of your characters, or having to guess the correct key for a zone, but the keys are obvious.

Secondly, the almost non-existent story is totaly [bad]and is just an excuse for the Actraiser clone aspect of the game. Instead of building a world like you did in Actraiser, you just place back the parts that some noname hidded in the dungeons.

The music is totally awful, even more repetitive than the game itself.

The only fun in this game is in the ..upgrade system, which replaces the character experience system of most RPG's. Oh the originality! They must be gods to have thought of such an imaginative system! In Dark Cloud your weapons break and you can get thirsty! They rule!

A final note for those who just bought the game and are disapointed but still have hope: No, it doesn't get better later.

First off, I'm actually 13. I don't have an acount. So this game isn't just for little kids.

This game is one of the best PS2 games out there right now. I just got it for X-mas, although it is a little dated. Now just because it's a greatest hit (old), doesn't mean it isn't good.

The battle system is great, the character design is original, and so far (I haven't beaten it yet), the plot is great. And that is coming from someone who has beaten FFX 2 times. I won't lie, though. Final Fantasy X is 1,000,000 times better than Dark Cloud, but Dark Cloud is definitly in my top 5 favorite PS2 games.

It has only one major flaw... The dungeons are all extremely similar and all of the floors that are similar make dungeons drag on very, very slowly. That's it, though. That's pretty much the ONLY majot flaw with the game.

I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME, AND AFTER YOU BEAT THIS, PLAY FINAL FANTASY X. I GUARENTEE THAT YOU WILL BE SATISFIED WITH BOTH GAMES IF YOU ARE INTO GOOD GRAPHICS, RPGS, COOL CHARACTERS, AND A GOOD PLOT.

This game is absolutely horrendous. You go back and forth to the same ugly looking dungeon looking for georama pieces. On top of that he gets thirsty every 30 seconds and is sword breaks which makes it weaker. Very very annoying. What is up with the building of the town? I want to play an RPG not sit there and build a town. If I wanted to manage a town I would go play Sim City or something like that. I bought this game a while ago, and played for a total of about 2-3 hours before saying "screw this" and shelving it forever. I recently bought a game called ICO, which is also made by Sony, now that is a masterpiece (Sony's redemption). This is a horrible title, go buy ICO instead you'll be happier...trust me.

Zelda killer? I think not.

This game was no where near as good as Zelda the graphics were ok, the sword build up was a good idea but other than thatyou might as well sell this game as soon as you get it.

I'm terribly sorry to say it, but this game was most likely the worst I game played in a long, long time. Dark Cloud was not only boring, tedious, and confusing, it was also a huge rip-off of every single Zelda game ever released. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

man i hated this game its the same thing over and over every room enver cavern looks like the one beforen. The only fun part is rebuilding the town but in order to do that you need to go into the long boring cavern to get the items to build. This is totaly not a game for a person how is into action its more of a gamefor people who like doing the same thing over and over. so if action is your thing don't buy this game!!

THIS is sich a good game. I bought it when it was not the neww thing anymore. I couldnt believe i didnt buy it in the first place. Now you can usually buy unexpensive Darckcloud games form [$$$] to [$$$]. It has a million dungeons and no blood or gore but it does have some fighting. If you are a gamer who is up to a challenge buy this game . Me and my friend really like this game and its sequel: DARKCLOUD 2.

This is one of the best games i have played for the PS2 yet. You play as a hero who goes around the world and rebuilds it. Alot of the reviews compare it to Zelda on the nintendo 64. They are both very complete different games. The fighting style and the 3rd person are similar, but, the weapon develpment and and character develpment are very different. I like how you can use 6 characters as you wish.

The only downfall is when you are in the dungens that the background doesnt change. Overall, it is a game worth playing. Orignal in many different ways.

This game is a perfect mix of some of the better games released! It's got the action, puzzle-solving, and overall feel of a Zelda game, the complete randomness and replay value of Diablo II and the dietal building of cities usually reserved for the Sims games. It's so addicting, you won't notice the hours pass! A definate buy for gamers of almost any genre.
