This game is fun. Period. Although it has been compared to Diablo and Diablo II, that is not a bad thing. I think that the only reason it gets compared to those two great games is because it shares some of the same elments and mechanics. You are given a choice of three character classes, get info from the townspeople and embark on various quests to rid them of their troubles. The story is a good one, if a bit predictable. The graphics are sharp and well done.
The area in which this game shines is the gameplay. The controls are smooth and the response time is lightning fast, no lag or anything of the like. I also like the fact the the controls are user friendly and the in-game tutorial is great at getting you familiar with the controls without being overly preachy or condescenting.
The overall story is very linear, and as you progress through the levels, the enemies can be quite tough and sometimes downright difficult to deal with. The boss battles are cool, and take quite a bit of strategy and evasion to ensure your survival. These above facts are cool and fit well into the game, but they are also its downfall. Although the toughness and tenacity of the enemies increases steadily, your character is a bit slower to catch up. Once you kill all the enemies on a level, they dont respawn, so you cannnot stick around and kill them again to gain more experience and level up faster.
Other than the fact that the difficulty level gets a little frustrating, you have to deal with a little bit of boredom and a lull in the storyline towards the end of the game. The set-up is nice, but the ending leaves a little to be desired.
Dont let those two little pitfalls disuade you from your quest, this game is still a ton of fun and easy to master, the only thing that counts against it are the two minor problems that could use a little bit of tweaking...minor flaws, but nothing to weigh too heavily. I highly suggest that fans of the Diablo series and fans of Dungeons and Dragons buy this game. I also suggest that you purchase this game if you just want to spend a few hours chopping monsters to bits and blasting away at the minions of darkness with some well placed arrows or magical spells.

this is one of the better PS2 games i've played.. the story, dialog and how you go into the sewer is cool. the action is enjoyable. the graphics are good. what i don't like is 1. aiming arrows is too difficult in my opinion, making it not as fun to play an archer and 2. it gets kinda repetitive.
Solid action RPG

At first I was a bit disappointed that this was not a real RPG like BG or BG2. Dark Alliance (DA) is more an action RPG like the Diablo games. DA has great graphics and music (far better than Diablo 2) and is pretty addictive. It doesn't make a real impact though. A solid action RPG, but nothing really special.
The game that reintroduced me to games. Love it!

When I was a kid I loved Wonder Boy on my Sega Genesis. But then I got out of video games completely. But then The Boyfriend suggested that we play together, and he said that if I liked Wonder Boy, I'd probably like Gauntlet and Baldur's Gate. We played Gauntlet first, and then this - what a delight! The graphics are amazing, the music is sublime, and the plot and storyline are both really interesting. It seems like, according to the reviews, the folks who played this on the pc are disappointed in it. Maybe I would have been, too, but since I never played it on a computer I guess ignorance is bliss, because I loved this game.
I liked the strategy and having to think about what weapons to use on each type of enemy. I've played the second one as well, which has even more customizations and chances to create weapons, which is great. It's especially fun to play this game with someone - I think I might have been bored sometimes playing it by myself.
Overall, it's a great game, though, especially for people new to games.

I was pretty disappointed by Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance. I love the PC Baldur's Gate series for everything that is missing from the PS2 version. The characters are hardly customizable. The story line is fixed and rigid. There is little sense of adventure nor of ownership of character as in the PC versions of Baldur's Gate. The hack and slash style of this game requires no thought or stategic planning as did the older versions. I am pretty disappointed because I was looking forward to this game for so long.
A good, mentally relaxing time.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is an idiosyncratic title. If you must have waves of strategy and a sussurus of storyline constantly pounding your mind, this game is not for you. However, if you can accept its lack of the aforementioned, you will have some unadultured fun.
BG: DA is not a thinking man's game, it's a hack-and-slash. Sending the player through droves of seemingly-endless monsters in Diablo-style is the point of the game. A short, though adaquately written, storyline weaves around the gameplay; the gameplay is the obvious main focus. Strategy amounts to not entering a large group of enemies that guarantees your death, putting the correct weapons on, allocating gained skill points effectively, and healing when necessary. Not exactly mind-bending, but acceptable and fun.
If you need heavy, deep times--stay far away. However, if you desire a break from those times or prefer lesser mentally-challenging titles, this game is definitely for you.

Great game with just enough story line to enage you and stay interesting, but not become weighted down and boring. The action reminds me of a 3-D Diablo with much better graphics. You fight various monsters and creatures, buy, sell, and trade armor, weapons, rings, amulets, and other commonly found items in role playing games. The interface is simple to pick up. You will have the hang of it in about 5 minutes. This will be the new standard by which other D&D type games are judged.
Different from normal role-playing games

This game is fun, if a bit easy. It's the first role-playing game I have EVER seen where it's more than one person can play at a time! Even if you can beat it in a few days, you can always invite someone who hasn't played it over to play it with you!

I loved this game! It was a little short, but definately worth buying. If you are a big fan of D&D, then this is the game for you. The challenges were fun, not frustrating, as many of the RPGs are. I can't wait for the next one to come out!
