My husband and I just finished playing Dark Alliance in cooperative mode. We had a blast playing this game. The graphics are excellent, the storyline intriguing and the interface is easy to use. In fact, we liked it so much, we're buying Dark Alliance 2 today!

I rented this game because everything else that at all appealed to me was gone. I brought it home, not expecting a whole lot since the PC versions of this game weren't all that spectacular in my opinion. I was totally blown away by this game, and have since added it to my permanent collection. The graphics are wonderful, and it is the perfect balance of challenge without being cheap and frustrating. The two player co-op mode is a blast, and even though I forsee beating the game on the normal difficulty setting sometime soon, there are enough things to unlock to make me think that I will be playing it for a long time to come.
Great game for PS2

Baldur's Gate is an extremely fun game - long dungeons, an endless array of hideous monsters, probably hundreds of weapons, two dozen spells, and many bosses.
There are disadvantages. The game is very short, and money is a problem in the beginning. There was not enough money to afford many things in the first shop in Part I. Near the end, I had enough money to buy six of the greatest weapon available for sale, but that was unnecessary because there were better weapons in the last dungeon. Certain skills require too many points to acquire, making it difficult to get high-level spells and high-level weapon feats. Near the end it gets very difficult to lose as you have the greatest armor and some awesome weapon.
It's still very fun. I spent about four days on the game alone on Normal, and it was simple to beat. Certain bosses I got stuck on, but I later concocted strategies to win. Finding weapons was always fun, because I always enjoyed checking the attack power and elemental strength of the weapon, and equipping, selling, or disposing of it. There are nice little cutscenes and you can talk with a dozen characters. There is a big cliffhanger at the end, too.
Even though the game is great, I would suggest not to buy it. Renting it would be wiser. The game is too short, and unless you are a really intense player and enjoy it alot, rent the game and beat it. Buying it would also give you enough time to beat the game with all characters and unlock some modes. I rented it, but some would buy it.

like many rpg fans,i've been playing D&D for a while, and I have to say that Dark Alliance is one of the best rpg games i've played in a while. The graphics are amazing, not to mention the gameplay. i'm a huge fan of graphics, and absolutely everything that crossed my path was so detailed (and of course fun to fight off). As for the gameplay, the control for the game was easy to adjust to, and the casting of the spells has got to be one of the best features on this game. Out of all three of the characters that you're allowed to play, i have to say that being the elf sorceress is so far my favorite. All in all, amazing graphics, cool gameplay, and a must for any fan of RPG and the Baldurs Gate series.
I'm the one that never played with Magic cards...

Enduring one lazy day of boredom, I sifted through my companion's video games: the sport games didn't really draw me in. (I'd assume settling for an old-skool version of Ms. Packman...) Instead, I popped this one in- knowingly beginning a game that requires a time commitment. I didn't know that I would enjoy it so much.
My boyfriend in previous adventures with BG had used the arcane archer- an all purpose guy with stamina and strength, but most of his talent comes from distance attacks. He played with our friend who decided to be the dwarf dude... packs a punch in close combat, but gets tired easily. I settled for the obvious choice- the elven sorceress... whose craft specializes in spells and feats that can rain the very havens down onto her opponents, but can't swing a battle axe (perhaps it's too heavy). I like the reality that every character has their pros and cons, and the player must decide between them.
I've heard of reviews (from my boyfriend, a guy with more sloshdot frequent flyer miles than Bill Gates) where many gamers find that the length of the game is too short. An answer to that might be to play it again... I've been told it gets harder. You can even use the same built-up character that you used the previous game (which is a nice feature)... It also adds depth to the game.
My biggest problem with this game is that when in 2-player mode, you can't move too far away from the other player. You need coordination, and I'm not a very talented gamer, so I get easily confused when someone wants to step in.
Best game yet, until FFX is released

This is the best game I have played for PS2 up to date. The only game I think may surpass it anytime soon is Final Fantasy X, which should be out by the time this is posted. When I got Baldur's Gate, I could not stop playing it. I have to admit, it's a pretty short game. It only takes about 10 hours to make your way to the end, but it has outstanding replay value due to an extra difficulty level to get your character to higher levels and the fact that you just want to see what all the characters are capable of. And if you ever do get bored of it, try two player co-op. It will definately make things fun again.
OHHH MYYYY THIS IS A SWEEET GAME!

Excellence comes along only a few times a year and hear you have it BGDA has everything I turn my system on for. Great graphics, excellent sound, great storyline, and awesome gameplay. I was playing this game alone at the start until my nephew came by and we could not take it out of the machine. Characters are constantly in change and the challenge is excellent. A light RPG atmosphere, the most similiar game I can compare it to is Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. Another title that was ahead of its time. You will play it for hours and beg for more. When you do beat it will you be disappointed its over, and not relieved. You can start all over with the same characteristics you ended with and continue to build your character for the obvious sequel that will follow. Hopefully they will allow you to take your character and load him into the sequel. I have been waiting for games like this and hope this will only lead to more of the same. MASTERPIECE.

This game if my favorite game for the PS2 and of any console ever. It is a lot of fun, and great graphics and sound. It is a little short, but not too bad. They could've added a fourth act, that may have been sufficient. It was very addicting; after I explored one area, I had to go on and finish another, and then anoter, and then another, and that kept going on for a long time. I also miss a choice of characters. I understand it is a console game, and they only have so much space, but they could add a couple other classes (a cleric would've been great in a couple areas!!). I personally don't care about changing the name, or choosing stats. I also think the story was pretty good, it kept me even more interested in the game. I also don't see why other reviewers complained about the diablo-ish, non-Baldur's Gate theme of the game, if they visited the official site or read anything about it before hand, they would've known what it would be like, and it was exactly what I expected, and then some.

Im not a big RPG fan but I love this game. It's the most addictive game on the PS2. You will literaly play this game for hours and have no conscience of time. Plus it's 20 bucks! Maybe the game could have been deeper, but for everything else, this game is flawless.
Nice little shot

This is a nice, tight, little hack/slash and rpg combo. It took me about four days to beat, and I didn't play to straight out win.
Graphics are decent, story line is good but a bit shallow making replay not worthwhile. The final battle is a bit dissapointing, but everything up to that point is solid.
... its a good buy.
