Best of the series, in more ways than one

Insomniac has taken all the best elements of the first two Spyro games, brought them into the third, spruced them up and added a whole lot more from their bag of tricks to provide the best Spyro game to date. This time around, Spyro -- with the help of his friends from Spyro 2 -- is trying to rescue dragon eggs from an evil sorceress. (Said eggs always hatch just as he gets them, treating the player to a brief animation of a baby dragon.) The environment is more interactive, with cannons, submarines, skateboards and more to play with. And the most dramatic change from the previous two games is that in addition to playing as Spyro, the game features play as Sparx the Dragonfly (in old school videogaming action), Bentley the Yeti (who plays whack-a-gnome and boxes), Sgt. Byrd the flying commando penguin, Shiela (who has a sidescrolling platform game in addition to her high-jumping levels) and Agent 9 the crazed space monkey (whose Doom parody level has to be seen to be believed). And through it all, the animation, voice work and overall design is flat-out charmig. Easier than Spyro 1, larger and more impressive than Spyro 2, "Spyro: Year of the Dragon" is this Playstation series going out with a bang. Great fun for the whole family.
This game is AWSOME!

'Spyro: Year of the Dragon' is, in my opinion, the best of the Spyro trilogy. With new characters like Bentley the Yeti, and Sheila the Kangaroo, you can do a diverse amount of things not possible before. New characters as well as old are introduced, and it would be a shame not to play this game. You will NOT be disappointed!
I love this game!

Don't be worried because this came out so soon after Spyro 2, it's wonderful! The worlds are gorgeous as always and the new characters really add variety to the game.
The difficulty level is about the same as the other games, not too easy, not too hard, so you can actually play the game instead of getting frustrated by it.
Highly recommended!!!
Best Spyro Game Yet!

This game is definitely the best of the Spyro trilogy. You can jump, glide, hover, flame, charge, headbash, swim, climb, and other amazing power-ups like superflame, superfly and invincibility. Team up with Zoe, Sparx, Hunter, and, unfortuneately, Moneybags. The levels are big and challenging, plus you can pilot planes, tanks, subs, skateboards, jet rockets, and if you can find out the code, even a squid. (No, I'm not lying). But wait, there's more. You can command one of 5 new characters: Sheila the Kangaroo, Sgt. Byrd, the flying penguin, Bentley the yeti, Agent 9 the space monkey, and, of course, Sparx. Defeat 4 bosses as Spyro, plus 4 as Sparx! And if you collect all 15,000 gems and 149 eggs in the regular worlds, you can enter the Super Bonus Worlds, where you defeat the Sorceress again! In the Speedway levels, complete the time attack and then try again. But don't go for the objects. In each Speedway level, Hunter's hidden there and you have to find him to get an egg. But, be careful in the first Speedway world. In the non-Greastest hits edition, if you challenge the butterflies to a race, you might win but not get the egg. There's no way to fix this!
Also, after you defeat the boss in each of the Sparx worlds, Sparx gets a special ability. If you complete the:
1st-Sparx can pick up gems further away.
2nd-Hold down L1, L2, R1, and R2 and Sparx points to the nearest gem.
3rd-Sparx has an extra hit point.
4th-You can warp to any level from your atlas/Sparx breaks open vases and baskets, which hold gems.
Once you get to know the controls, it's easy to maneuver Spyro around. And if you need help, go to the Help section when you pause. It tells you how to control your character.
Buy this game. It's definitely worth your money. Once you start, you won't want to stop!
The Third Spyro is the Best!!

This is the third in the Spyro-the-dragon action game series, and it's definitely the best. In addition to Spyro you get to control a number of other characters, each with its own moves. Agent 9, the Space Monkey, is perhaps my favorite!
You're doing the regular save-the-dragons gameplay, but this time there are dragon eggs (150 of them) with cute little baby dragons inside. Yes, the entire game is sort of "cute", but don't let that put you off. It's really an amazing action game with lots to offer.
There are over 30 stages in the game, each with its own themes and special areas. There are mini-games like skateboarding area which are as fun (if not more fun) than the normal gameplay.
They've done a great job of balancing the game, so that it's always challenging but you're never stuck somewhere. The puzzles are fun to work through. A great game that everyone can enjoy!

Although I must first admit that I am a Spyro fan and that I have, despite my adult age, spent countless hours with all three games, this review is not wholly a biased one.
And my opinion is not based on the usual "he-is-such-an-adorable-little-character" line either; instead it is based upon the fact that the game is versatile enough to hook anybody from the get go. With a lot of running, jumping, swimming, flying, and especially blasting to do as well as plenty of puzzles to solve, this is what I call "sheer entertainment." Furthermore, the third part of this gaming trilogy allows you to enter other characters besides Spyro, which is a nice plus (being the Yeti is definitely a plus; although being the Kangaroo actually made me sea-sick, go figure...). To sum it up - any Spyro is a great game.
PS. The first two games required me more time to finish (especially the levels with multiple run-jump sequences in the second game), but who knows how steep the learning curve is in regard to games such as these...Nonetheless, Spyro is always guaranteed fun!

Spyro and Sparx are back and kickin in with a new game in the Spyro trilogy, Spyro: Year of the Dragon! It is defentally worth the money, I have gotten hours and hours of enjoyment playing this great game. This time Spyro has a whole new set of friends (along with the old ones too)! Once you pay Moneybags a *ahem* small fee you can release a character from their prison and play as them! You can play as Sheila the Kangaroo, Sargent Byrd the Flying Penguin (yes you can actually fly!), Bentley the Yeti, Agent 9 the Monkey or Sparx the Dragonfly (Sparx shows what he's made of in the Sparx Bonus Worlds!). There are many great mini games such as Skateboarding, Snowboarding, Racing and Doom! Believe me you have to buy this game or you'll be sorry about what you missed out on!
Talk about fun? THIS IS IT!

i bought all three spyro's games for my grandson and me to play together. he is only 4 and we have finished them all with help from him lol. i wrote sony and asked if there would be a spyro 4 and they said yes but it is not out yet. then they dropped the bomb on us. they said it would only be for the playstation 2 people. that is not fair. some of us don't won't dvd or the other stuff. all we wanted was the playstation one. why can't they make it for all of us and then we would all be happy. if you loved spyro then write to sony and tell them how you feel. if enough of us do that then maybe they will change their minds. spyro lover to the end.
