Anyone Know Where I Can Get This?

I've been looking for a copy of this game for a little while, without having to pay $50 to $100 for a game. They have taken it off Konami's online store but a while ago they had it listed as out of stock. I have played every Silent Hill game besides this one and they were all great. I would love to start from the begining and play them all again. Does anyone know where you can buy this at a reasonable price or even rent it?

best survival horror game

I don't get scared by horror movies or survival horror games but this is an exception. This game is really creepy. It is very different from other survival horror games like Resident Evil and Dino Crisis. These games are gory and have some startling parts. Silent Hill also has the above mentioned elements but this is the only game I know that is really scary. The puzzles in the game are a bit more difficult than those of RE's. The controls are your standard action game controls. The graphics in the game are a bit blocky but the backgrounds are very detailed. The sound here is used to make the game more creepy. Even when I played the game for the second, third, and many more times, it still gave me the creeps. One time I even lowered the volume for the sound effects because I was getting really scared. This game is really good but I don't advise people who easily get scared to play this game.

I purchased Silent hill 2 and enjoyed it very much but I wanted to get a little more detale on what happened in silent hill to find out why this town is now what it is. Silent Hill explans what happened, and I must say I really enjoyed Silent Hill as much as Silent Hill 2. To sum it up Silent Hill is a must for any Silent Hill Fan. But here's a little warning You may like Silent Hill so much you may endup in Silent Hill>:)

This game scared me half to death! Even now it's still frightening, and the atmosphere is amazing. If I hear a static-y radio at night, I still get scared! Definately must play if you like survival horror games.

EAT YOUR HEART OUT, GEORGE ROMERO!

This is what Survival/Horror games are all about. Silent Hill is a brutal assault on your skills and senses, smackdab in the middle of an all-out freakfest. It's got mutants, zombies, ghosts, aliens, just about every fear-envoking ploy Hollywood has ever used. The gameplay is both fun and moderately challenging, and you generally don't have to be a regular of the genre to figure most of it out. The action rarely lets up and the sounds make you tense enough to feel your heartbeat in the back of your neck. The effectiveness of the challenge and fear factor are more than enough to make up for the somewhat shoddy graphics and voice acting. Some may complain about the controls but when you think about it, it really makes sense. The protagonist is just a John Q. Public who prob'ly never fired a gun before all this weird stuff started happening to him, so sure he's gonna be rusty. Though not everyone notices, controls do improve as you progress. In closing, Silent Hill is definitely worth checking out if you enjoy both a scare and a challenge.
PS: This is not for the squeamish.
PPS: Really, I'm not kidding.

still one of the best

i am finally playing this game. I played SH2 when it first came out, skipped 3 and played 4 after i saw the movie. I went back and just beat 0rigins. I was able to track down the first three games for relatively cheap. and i must say, playing sh1 on ps3, is still creepy and scary. it might not be as polished the later entries, and definatly not as polished as the upcoming 5 still. if you can get your hands on this game, and like real scary movies and games. if i had to twist this into the movie world. and compare RE to SH. i would say RE is obviously more like Romero's Living Dead series, with a little X files thrown in. While SH with the music, mood and atmospheric setting wise its closer to psycho.

This was a really fun videogame. Silent Hill is almost like a twisted version of Alice in Wonderland. Set with all kinds of twists and turns you'll certainly enjoy this game. Although beware, the gameplay as well as the outcome changes depending on the decisions that you make during the course of the game. So choose wisely. The part of the videogame that I found to be the most frustrating was the hospital. Even though I have never really played any of the other Silent Hill videogames except for Silent Hill Origins. I also highly recommend Silent Hill Origins.

Still, the Best horror game *no spoilers*

This is a game for the PS1 system. It's got underwhelming graphics considering todays standards, but its incredibly immersive, as good as the best horror movies or books, everything about the game oozes atmosphere and style.
The game play, especially the movement is a little clunky though the emphasis is not on fast paced action so that is never and issue. The objective of the game is to go through a "haunted" town looking for a missing little girl while slowly discovering the back story of the town of silent hill. The puzzles are interesting and logical, never too difficult or too weird, though the game will seem a little little railroaded and constrained (since some sections of the town are off limits at the beginning you will be following a set course throughout the game) this is due to the nature of the eerie and slowly unfolding story. overall a great experience, better than a horror movie anyhow!
Silent Hill 2 will later top this story wise and become the best game in the series, though this magic first experience will remain the most intense!

Very scary

This game is one of the scariest of all time. Fear perpetuates throughout the game at all times. And most of it is genuine fear, not just the cheap scares like something jumping out from behind a corner (but there are a few of those too). I can't play this game in the dark or alone, it messes me up.

No Question the greatest survival horror game of all time!!!

I played this game when it first came out. I was a huge fan of Resident Evil and so was my brother we had played videogames since we were like psh...3. lol Silent Hill was advertised on the back of RE2 if I remember correctly and I said I am getting that game when it comes and my brother sort of brushed it off as he was an RE snob, lol. When it came out oh yea he played it. It was unlike anything we had ever seen before, truly unique. That was years ago and I said back then if they ever make a movie...it will scare the hell out of people. Now I've seen the previews for the movie I've been waiting YEARS for and they've changed the story a bit and I am just hoping they don't change it too much. If they follow the story of the game that movie is gonna be one hell of a horror flick. This will forever remain a classic. Best storyline and game I've ever played. If they ever re-made it on say playstation 3 for aesthetic reasons like they did with resident evil the original on gamecube I would love to see it. This game is truly unique as is the whole series though I really didn't care for the third but the first is by the far the most shocking, twist, and turn thriller of them all. Loved it and always will.
