I played this game at a friend's house in late December '99 and I fell in love with it. We turned the lights out and unplugged the Christmas tree so we could experience it best. Being a girl, I usually hate games which entail shooting things, but this was more along the lines of an old Sierra PC game - mostly a journey. I'm online today buying it because I can't wait to play again. I think what makes it scary is the fog. Because things can jump out at you with no advance notice (except your static radio,) and that creates suspense.
This is an incredibly scary game.

Konami dove into the world or survival horror with this offering, stepping on the toes of Capcom who pioneered the genre with the Resident Evil series.
Konami clearly tried to push the envelope in terms of providing a terrifying experience, and in that, they've succeeded. While it's certainly eerie to be chased by zombies, Konami took it to a new level with incredibly dark settings and sounds.
Unfortunately, Konami didn't quite have the gameplay quite right. The controls were a bit awkward, and the main character just didn't move as smoothly as I would have liked. The graphics were only so-so, and the lack of snappy FMV was a big minus. Another problem was that the plot was a bit anemic -- overall, the game just could have used a lot more work.
Nonetheless, it's a fair offering, because the sheer terror value of the game in many ways surpasses the RE series. If Konami works on the controls, improves animation, and adds more eye candy, they could have a hit series.

Silent Hill, are the only game there could battle with Resident Evil, to be the best horror game of all time, and i think Silent Hill is the winner. SH is a VERY creepy and scary game. The worst situation you could be in, is to be totally alone in a little town, where "something bizarre is happened". Bizarre is it, is like a holocaust in the small town, in a scene there is a body hanged up on barbed wire, and there is blood enywhere, and bloody parts of executed humans. If you looking for a ADULT horror-game, buy Silent Hill.

Overall, this game is the creepiest videog ame I have ever played. The environments, enimies, and gameplay are designed to keep the player interested and a little on the edge. THe only true problem with this title is that it offers nothing new, and relies very much on the style of playing created by Resident Evil. Not that this style is bad, but within Silent Hill the gameplay just didn't feel quite as great as it did with Resident Evil, and at times I got a little bored with the wandering around the level that must be done from time to time. Despite these few complaints this is an excellant title that fans of the "survival horror" genre should enjoy/

I got this game for my birthday about 3years ago.I finally beat the game today.I could have beaten it when I first got it but Ikept puting it off.I got to say I was very impressed with it,It is probably one of the only games to ever make me jump. The puzzles were fun and somewhat chalenging.I also like the differnt endings to it but i wont tell about it if you have not beaten it.Over all a very good game and pretty good graphics for a ps1,so if you like surrvival horrer check this one out.

This game is in a genre of its own as far as I'm concerned. Whilst it may be in the same vein of some other action/horror titles, it is by far superior in every aspect imaginable. This game provokes a constant atmosphere of brooding terror. This game is dark, suspenseful and twisted. Play this game alone, with the blinds closed, with the TV volume cranked and within minutes you'll be scolding the child in you that is getting up to turn the lights back on. -I'm not kidding, this game will scare you. This is an action/horror game with plenty of action, and enough horror for two games with some left over. Puzzles that will have you scratching your chin, and nightmares made flesh that will have you buying batteries for your night-light. This game takes you to the fog-clad streets of an ominously deserted suburbia, through the twisted paralell worlds of a town gone straight to hell. Here lies an oppurtunity, Nightmarish as it is profound, for you to explore the depths of darkness and maybe, however unlikely, survive. If you're not trembling too badly already and you think you're up for a test of both wits and guts, I strongly suggest you click ADD TO CART.

You really don't count on games giving you a good scare, until you pop in Silent Hill in your Playstation. If you thought the Resident Evil series games made you jump and afraid to sleep in the dark, think again. Silent Hill will scare you silly. Want to know what it is like to walk around in a city covered in mist that you can only see 5 feet in front of you? What about a city that plunges you into a darkness so quickly you feel as if someone pushed a fast forward button. Or how about having your heart jump when you peer down the hall and see a small demon walking toward you with a knife? This game has it all. With controls similar to the Resident Evil controls, you play Harry Mason exploring Silent Hill looking for his daughter Cheryl. Only that you are actually part of a story that is to deep to comprehend. You must traverse many different realities of Silent Hill in order to find your daughter and survive. Along the way, Hell's minions will attempt to end your life ever so quickly. Playing the first 10 minutes of the game almost forced me to stop playing the game altogther, it is that disturbing. I don't mean it in a bad way, its just that this game is really creepy. The thought of me walking around in a city where I cannot see more than 5 feet in front of me really gets under my skin. And when Silent Hill plunges you into total darkness and all you have for light is a wimply clip on flashlight, it is just about enough to shut the game off because of the atomsphere is produces. There is really not much to complain about on this game. The controls take a little getting used to, but any seasoned gamer will pick up on it quickly. The acting of couse is not up to par like in other games (Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 1,2,3) and it is almost as if there are que cards nearby for the CGI actors. The puzzles are not impossible to perform and some of them quite fun. The best thing about this game is the atmosphere it creates. It is just pure horror to have to walk around not knowing what you will find behind the next door or around the corner. If you want a true horror experience, turn off the radio and turn off the auto-aim on your gun. This game reached "Greatest Hits", so enough said and add this game to your cart.
