This game triumphs where Resident Evil and all its mindless sequels (You know it's true. It's the same structure all over again: "Run before everything blows up!" It makes me sick) fail: To scare you in the most elemental of ways.
It's true! Silent Hill, along with Clock Tower and CT2 are games that, despite their simple graphics, can attain cheer terror. I most confess it, this game gave me quite a few scares, and whereas the Resident Evil Series' story is somewhat linear and devoid of any originality, (Besides the original Resident Evil) Silent Hill carries one of the most complex stories out there, mainly because of the heavy censoring it received in America, dealing with topics such as extreme drug abuse, child abuse, etc. And the reality shifts are simply brilliant.
Really, really, get this game, you won't regret you did it, and although the enemies are somewhat stupid, the game and its feel surely isn't.
Oh and the music! Perhaps some of the best I have heard in a video game. It sounds like something out of early Brighter Death Now, dark and terrifying.
There are two things that scare me in this world...

those two things are Stephen King's movie 'Salem's Lot, and this video game. I read in a magazine that it was just a Resident Evil clone... but this game kills Resident Evil. Resident Evil is basically just shooting zombies and figuring out puzzles, but Silent Hill is a story. It's like a Stephen King novel, regular people in extreme situations with an immersive story. And don't let people fool you saying there are holes in the plot. If you pay attention to the game, you'll see that there aren't. And God, this game is scary. The first time through you'll be sweating and shivering at the same time. Turn the lights off, crank up the sound, and take a little visit to Silent Hill. You won't regret it.
This Game Will Freak Any One Out!

This game is not like any other. It combines horror with great puzzles that REALLY take a lot of strategy, and get you thinking. Silent Hill is suspenseful, and makes you jump and get freaked out just when you dont expect it. Alternate endings make the game more exciting each time you play. AWESOME GAME!

Silent Hill is THE best survival horror game. Period. I've played Resitent Evil 1,2 and 3, Dino Crisis, House of The Dead 1 and 2 and nearlly every survival horror out there, and this is definitlly the best. You can play it at least four times, to get all the endings. You play Harry Mason as he is going on vaction with his daughter Cheryll and skids out of the road to avoid hitting a girl. When he wakes up, Cheryll is gone. Where is she? What is happening to the town? Is it all a dream? To find out, try this great game!
Don't play with the lights off.

Silent Hill is one of the most disturbing games every to grace a home console. Many may call it a Resident Evil clone, but the game has many differences that seperate it from its "survival horror" cousin. This is a great game because its a horror game that messes with your mind. Just like Resident Evil had a lot in common with Night of the Living Dead, Silent Hill has much in common with movies like The Shining. The whole experience has you on edge wondering what will happen next and always looking over your shoulder to make sure your still safe. Just remember don't play this game at night.

I am not an easy one to scare, but this game is the scariest thing I have ever witnessed. It is extremely demented and disturbing, and sails high above the other horror games I've played. I actually Screamed at some parts! I was even afraid to walk in my house at night.

Well I have owned Silent Hill for about 2 days and im already loving it. The Whole game gives you the creeps. Its like Resident Evil with better and more difficult puzzles, easier controlls, better story, better scary elements. Its scarier then any movie I have ever seen. Well I guess this game is an exact mix of Covert Ops and Resident Evil. Its mainly like a horror movie video game and the horror elements are very well done in the way that it makes your worst fears come true like being surrounded by zombies in a dark alley with nowhere to go.

My friend and I have played Silent Hill and think it's a great game. This game has beautiful CG cut-scenes. I love the way it keeps you on the edge of your seat with the music, eerie noises, and the way you can't see around yourself when it's dark or foggy. The monsters are great and the graphics rock! The only thing I don't like is having to navigate through the dark when a monster is attacking you, you can't see were it is. I suggest you get this game if you like horror games. Try playing it with the lights out and the sound turned up,even with the lights on the game is still real scary.
